Discussion How many mince pies do we need?? Why does ASDA wait later and later to put out their chocolate yule logs? You can't get them now until mid November and it used to be mid October.

The shelves are always covered with mince pies, every type you can imagine. Every year, the same thing. Mince pies, fruit cakes, iced fruit cakes, german goodies and panettone that nobody really wants.

Why do they delay putting out the chocolate yule logs later and later every year? They used to put them out mid October. But I haven't seen any yet. I'm told it will not be until mid November that they finally come out.

Someone please explain why? Feels like they're being withholding on the good stuff. And what will they cost this year? £8 or £9, up from £6?

Closing on probation

Hi all, I started at Asda express about just over a month ago. I am still on probation, and recently the store manager was put on gardening leave.

The new store manager started last week, and I believe she sees potential for a team leader role in me. I have worked in retail before, (I’ve got about a year of experience now) however I’ve never been in a managerial role before. One of the team leaders is ‘off sick’ and I don’t think he plans on coming back, the other is off on holiday for the next 2 weeks and the last one only opens.

I have closed about 4 times now as an acting manager, I’m comfortable closing however I’ve not had any proper team leader training. I haven’t been officially promoted to a team leader (I’m still on colleague pay) yet I do all of the team leader tasks, including cashing up.

Some of my colleagues have said I’m an idiot for not asking for a pay rise, but I’m still on probation and don’t want to be demanding. Plus, my store manager has mentioned there aren’t any vacancies for any more team leaders

What should I do? Do I keep closing as a colleague or do I ask for a pay rise? Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

Job role

Would you agree that working as a online picker is 10x easier than someone who is working on chilled, produce or meat?

When working as online picker you are working as a team of about 15 to get it all completed whereas on the fresh roles you are absolutely by yourself most days.. so everything is down to you and nobody cares. More physical and draining when by yourself.

What do you think?

Edit : it's so easy hence why the women are the ones doing it and the lads are out the back doing the labour

I’m off sick and it’s been 6 weeks - they have asked for a health and well being meeting? Is this something I’m obliged to attend? I’m off with stress
