First time using TLE

• Upvotes

I’ve never PCSed CONUS to CONUS, so this will be my first go-round. My family is doing a HHG move, but we are driving quite a ways with some stops in between. I am a bit confused on the TLE allowances (albeit I’m probably overthinking this). If anyone can shine some light on this situation it would be appreciated!!

Starting in San Antonio
Stop 1- Denver, Colorado for 3 nights
Stop 2- Ogden, Utah for 3 nights
Final stop- JBLM, Washington

When will I be authorized TLE? Thank you in advance you kind souls.

4 fo 4 for me please!

Sleeping: Having trouble waking up. Any tips? 21M

• Upvotes

I’ve already heard a lot of things such as, “Just wake up” and, “Try setting only 1 alarm instead of 3” but nothing seems to work. I am pissing off a lot of my NCO’s because I am constantly late and I believe I’m one FTR away from a UCMJ. It just feels like when I turn off my alarms I’m still fully asleep, as in I SEE myself turn off my alarm but it FEELS like a dream. Any advice and/or criticism will be greatly appreciated.

Why did you guys join the Army and not the Marines?

• Upvotes

So I know why people join the Marines, it’s mostly the marketing. They’ve done a great job advertising themselves as an elite force. So for those of you who joined the Army why the Army specifically?

Dual citizenship

I joined the army as a green card holder in July 2024 and got my American citizenship with graduation basic training.
Can anyone tell me if I lost my German citizenship automatically? I still have my European passport ID’s and stuff. At work nobody can tell me maybe here’s someone who can help me or tell me where to find out.

Thanks y’all

If I change MOS, with my DUI follow me?

So I’m looking to change my MOS and I’m digging through AR 670-1 and PAM 670-1. Both of them talk about the Regimental Distinctive Insignia (RDI) and Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) that you’re allowed to wear on your uniform. The RDI is dependent on your branch/MOS/etc and you only wear it when you are serving as that MOS, but the DUI is tied to the unit itself.

AR 670-1, 21-24a, states: “Insignia used to represent regimental affiliation consists of either the RDI or DUI of a design approved by TIOH. A Soldier’s regimental affiliation using an RDI is based on a Soldier’s branch/corps/special branch, as determined by PMOS or specialty. Soldiers may wear the RDI for their affiliated regiment or may wear the DUI for a unit in which they are serving or have previously served successfully, based on their assignment history as indicated in their official personnel record.”

PAM 670-1, 21-24a states: “AR 670–1 authorizes insignia used to represent regimental affiliation to consist of either the RDI or DUI. A Soldier’s regimental affiliation using an RDI is based on a Soldier’s branch, corps, or special branch as determined by PMOS or specialty. A Soldier’s regimental affiliation using a DUI is based on a unit in which the Soldier is serving or previously successfully served. Soldiers may wear the RDI for their affiliated regiment or may wear the DUI for a unit in which they are serving or have previously successfully served based off their assignment history as indicated in their personnel record.”

If someone changes their MOS and stays in the same unit, they would wear the same DUI (but not RDI.) If they change MOS, transfer to a different unit under the same branch, they could wear the old DUI or the RDI. If they change MOS and transfer to a completely different unit, they might still be able to wear the DUI because they have a record of deploying with that unit, even if they no longer are currently affiliated with the regiment.

It sounds like if someone deploys with the 1-23 Awesome Sausages then changes MOS and transfers to the 7-89 Turd Muffins, they could still wear the prestigious 1-23’s DUI on their uniform?

Weight help

tryna do the army, got back from the recruiters office tdy, I went in knowing they would say my weight is a problem (cuz my weights a problem on it own outside of military qualification anyway), but I wanted to see if they knew what I had to get down to, when I had to, and how to. I’m currently 5,11 289 so buku fat (completely stopped being active at all this summer n jus let myself go way far im aware) and they said in 3-4 weeks I could definitely get down to 250 and meet one of the like bmi requirements or something. Might have meant I’d go to one of the fat camps beforehand but I’m not sure exactly what they meant. Point I’m getting at here is how do I make this work, I agree with them that it’s possible but that’s just because my weight fluctuations so much and 250 is a weight I’ve hit multiple times in the past two years, but how do I actually accomplish this. What workouts, what running, what diet, like tips n tricks, all type of advice yall have for me cuz I’ll go hard if I need to go hard but I just want to know how to go hard in the first place. I have free days every day so plenty of time but no way to get to a gym, no money lying around to buy a bunch of stuff, and really the food situation at home is jus random bs we got n wtv my mom makes for dinner. Not opposed to forms of fasting, will really jus do wtv it takes n if I can get down even lower to avoid the taping thing then please help me with that too.

Saturday School Ft Hood

My husbands leadership told him he was going to Saturday school as a punishment, we haven’t really heard of this aside from being told when in-processing/leadership threatening it. We tried looking online but didn’t find any information, and he wasn’t counseled either.

Hey train and Boat dudes; question for you all

So, with the execution that is supposed to happen, I learned about the regulation that covers that.

Curious to know, if there is a reg for transporting

Men Via Rail, or Men Via boat.

Like I wonder what would cover that? I could imagine it being much more expensive. here is a scenario

I did premoab in texas, and then deployed to the middle east.

like, for the boat dudes, how much of a pain in the ass would it be to deploy 1 infantry company of like 150 soldiers.

for the train bros, do we even have cattle trucks Trains for the soldiers?

Is there battle drill involving a train? attacking with / seizing a train / maybe dropping rounds?

10 years in and I finally did it

I joined the Army with a goal in mind. I wanted to go to medical school, I wanted to be an Army doc, and I wanted the Army to pay for it.

I was 25, couldn't afford school, and wanted to make sure my family was taken care of. Were there other ways to make the dream happen? Yes, but this one was best for me.

10 years enlisted, some fun times at NTC and JRTC, and lots of friends and shenanigans along the way.

Today I got my medical waivers approved for USUHS. I received my acceptance last week and this was the only thing left. I wasn't sure it would happen as I had a back surgery earlier this year, but it did. I have some other interview invites to civilian schools, but USU was always the dream.

In March, I will officially transition from Sergeant to Ma'am. And hopefully in 2031, Dr. Ma'am.

So this is your reminder to get plugging away at that degree and put in that packet. The Army will get something out of you, so make sure you get something out of it. And if you have a Soldier with a big dream, support them. I didn't get here just because I was dedicated, I got here because I had leaders and NCOs who supported me and helped me get here.

I'll take the largest Dr. Pepper zero I can get and some chicken nuggies.

Assistance with NCOER

My NCOER is due and was notified that it’s ready to be signed. While I was reviewing all the information and rater’s comments, I had my NCOER from last year opened. That’s when I realized that my current rater literally copied and pasted my last year’s eval (whom was a different rater) into this year. It’s a near 1 to 1 replica. It’s not a bad eval but it’s not accurate reflecting this past year while containing old info. For example it mentioned humanitarian efforts I did back in OCT 2024.

I brought it up to his attention but he assured me that it is fine, and even specifically said: “That is fine, information there is an average of the year effort.”

This doesn’t seem right but in my opinion I think he’s being lazy because I’m not in that unit anymore since I got promoted out recently. Also, the rater is my old platoon sergeant who’s also getting out soon. I’m looking into the regs to verify, but meanwhile, what are y’all’s thoughts?

How does minimal ratings affect promotion?

Question for the field grade masses, particularly those who have sat on the other side of promotion boards. For officers that have fewer ratings, does that affect the boards decision?

For example, a CPT has been heavy on the school side and only has 4x OERs when they get their first look for MAJ. Do you factor in the AERs when assessing potential or are you going solely off the OERs? I assume SOF, JAG, and other specialized careers go through this but I’m curious.

For context, a peer of mine is seeking a specialized career but, due to decisions they’ve already made, my argument is it would put them at risk for promotion.

Large coke, no ice.

Uniform Changes

Did all the uniform changes that were floated around last month that were supposed to get dropped during AUSA get deleted? Is there a new expected drop date?

The only way people know I’m better than them is when I tell them rather than when they see my branch on my collar.

Legal stuff

Can your wages be garnished if you’re in the US army? A little back story, ex friend (CPT) was sued by me for about 5k he scammed me out of and he refused to pay back. The judge ordered him to pay me. However, he is giving me the run around with repayment. I’m sick of it. It’s been almost a year. The courts haven’t been a huge help with enforcement. Any insight?

Find Stolen Valor story reference

A friend of mine once told me a story that I think is stolen valor because I had heard it before.

Story was told in a youtube, a CIA or SF operator was being interviewed maybe Shawn Ryan show? At least that format. I don't remember all the details, this was a while ago. I should have called him out. But it was a group setting, but his version was exactly what I had heard before.

Sorry goes: they are pinned down in a building and it was during a firefight that went quite, and they realized that the enemy was crawling up the their building. The guy tried to put his weapon through a window to get him, but it would not fit, bad angle or something, then he tries with his pistol which might have jammed, so I think he drops a grenade out the window.

Anyone know where to find this?
