𦦠𦑠FUCK IT I'M OUT𦑠𦦠I'm touching grass, and y'all should too
Anyone who has used reddit for more than, like, two years knows this website is a case study in enshittification - ads, bots, terrible UI, etc. I have finally experienced my last straw and I'm leaving /r/animalid and this terrible website. To make a long story short, a mod with about 60 mod actions in the last 12 months and who hasn't interacted with the community at all in about two years, has suddenly decided that this subreddit is now worth paying attention to since it's hit over a quarter million subscribers. In addition to undermining my decisions, he's a sniveling little prick and he's fucking useless.
The admins won't get rid of him because they're brainless and/or too lazy to actually properly assess the situation, so I'm just going to leave. I'm the only regularly active moderator this subreddit has ever had (aside from the ones I added) and the admins apparently could not give less of a fuck because they'd rather let some random window licker get in the way and take credit for my work than hurt his feelings because "he said he wants to stay :((("
I'm not going to rant any longer, but honestly, fuck this website. Just fuck this entire fucking website. I'm too exhausted to be polite or to fully explain the context. Just know that this subreddit will no longer offer reliable mustelid ID because society has lost its ability to rightfully call people out on their bullshit. I may be an asshole, but at least I gave a shit. That's more that can be said for a mod who was absent for two years and who has only been a mod for like 2 months longer than me (which is why I can't just remove him myself).
I declare /u/JorikThePooh to be new head moderator, for whatever it's worth. Good luck everyone, it was nice knowing a few of y'all.
Edit: fuck it may as well name names, the mod in question is /u/Stinky_Ham_Sandwich. Check out his post history. Compare it to mine. Does he look like an active community member of /r/animalid? The admins seem to think so. They also seem to think 60 mod actions per year is enough to keep a 277k strong subreddit in check. For context, I had 6k, and the least active mod that still regularly participates in the community has just under 1k. But clearly Mr. Sandwich is every bit as integral to the team as I am and it's his right to undermine my decisions and reduce my permissions without asking π₯΄

π πΈ HERPS: SNAKE, TURTLE, LIZARD π πΈ [Sherwood, OR USA] Almost stepped on this lil guy on a trail walk
It was about 57Β°F (~14Β°C) this morning and this fella stayed perfectly still as I walked past and squatted down for photos. A very energetic dog had walked the other way moments earlier, so maybe it had a touch of animal spook, too? It seemed to be gone when I doubled back to head towards the other end of the park trail.
The skin texture looks really neat, but I didn't touch since I didn't know what kind of defenses they might have.

Sorry that itβs super quiet. It was repetitive, maybe once every 20 seconds or so, and Iβll admit I got a bit creeped out because it was at around 6am 0-0''.

π π UNKNOWN RODENT/LAGOMORPH ππ Animals in Animation [Japan]
Hey again, animalid reddit!
I hope I classified this post correctly. Can I get a little more help? In today's anime episode, I came across this animal. My first thought was a beaver, but the tail is absolutely wrong. When I did a little searching, I found that beavers, nutria, and muskrats tend to look very similar, so I'm likely seeing a nutria or muskrat in this screenshot. Since this show is based in Japan, I confirmed that both species are found in that region, albeit as introduced species. Is there any way to determine just which animal this critter is for sure? Thanks in advance for any advice you guys can give me.

π©π© SCAT ID REQUEST π©π© Help with missing cat/what are these droppings?? [Bay Area CA] Spoiler
gallery**Hey guys. My brothers cat is missing, and we are worried she might be gone, or an animal took her. Last night, around 3am, we think she slipped out the front door while one of us went to get something from the front porch. On either side of the front porch, there is an areas with tanbark and trees. Sheβs slipped out before, and she usually stays on the porch or in that tanbark area. Two hours went by when we were both wondering, βwhere tf is Lucy?β**
We searched everywhere. Turned our house upside down, searched the property multiple times. We put her litter box out, shook her food bag, called her name, we did everything. We found these animal droppings right by the front porch. My fear is that what ever animal this poop belongs to, snatched our cat and took off with it and killed her. We live on a hill in the Bay Area, lots of coyotes, snakes, bob cats, tarantulas, owls, live on our property. We hear coyotes howling at night and owls hooting. I want to identify what this animal is, I want to know what you guys think could have happened, and I also want to know how to support my brother. Please let me know your thoughts and if you have any suggestions. Do we keep looking?
Sheβs a small cat, tiny frame, 9lbs.

πΎπΎ TRACKS ID REQUEST πΎπΎ Are these wolf tracks [NW Montana]
Not sure how many separate tracks there are. The shoe print is menβs size 13. There are raccoon tracks all over the beach, but they are much much smaller and looking different. AI says theyβre overwhelmingly canid.
We know there are gray wolves in the area, but donβt their tracks look different? Hard to tell the true size since itβs on sand!
Is it a coyote or giant raccoon? Sorry for the shit pics!
