📝 Discussion Angels' Farm System Depth Chart
Thought it would be fun to take a look at the farm system from a depth chart perspective, if only to see how much our acquisitions this year (bolded) bolstered the system. I've also included a number of our fringe top-30 guys who could move onto the list with good performances next year.
I've said it before, but I think that the Angels start to look pretty competitive in 2029. A lot of the top guys will be up, and the high-ceiling guys that need a few years will be making their debuts. That, along with two more years of drafts and trades, give the fans a lot to be excited about.

📝 Discussion So now Kroenke buying the Angels curses the Rams?
The dooming in this sub is small fries compared to that sub. I said Fuck Arte Moreno there and got downvoted. This is the problem sharing fandoms with whiny Dodger fans, some still angry about the Rams/Angels connection.

📝 Discussion Mark Trumbo listed Ben Joyce as a player who likely won't return in 2027
ON-TIME DEPARTURES: Josh Lowe, Jose Siri are among Angels who likely won't return | Halo Territory (Halo Territory: A Los Angeles Angels Show)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUBZFqdsyTo
Mark Trumbo listed five players to not bring back to the Angels in 2027 season in his Podcasts/YouTube Channel, The Halo Territory. Ben Joyce is one of the players in his list. He explained Ben Joyce is not dependable as a closer due to his health issue, and has failed to show his ability to close a game by blowing up at the end of the 2026 season. Mike DiGiovanna, Co-Host of the show, added Ben Joyce should move to 7th or 8th inning guy from the bullpen.

One of the only great things that Perry did while he was here was convincing Artie to finally invest more into the spring training complex and build a state of the art training facility there.

📝 Discussion The Rendon contract is officially in the books: 257 games out of 1,032. Where does it rank among Angels deals?
With the season over, the seven-year, $245M Rendon deal is officially done (h/t @CodifyBaseball on X for the reminder). One correction to the number going around: the Angels played 1,032 games across those seven seasons, so he missed 775, not 877. It's still about as rough as it gets.
Season by season, games played out of team games:
- 2020: 52 of 60 (.286/.418/.497, honestly great)
- 2021: 58 of 162
- 2022: 47 of 162
- 2023: 43 of 162
- 2024: 57 of 162
- 2025: 0 (hip surgery)
- 2026: 0 (restructured, didn't report)
That's 257 games, 24.9% of the schedule. As an Angel he hit .242/.348/.369 with 22 homers in 1,095 PA, and it works out to roughly $953K per game played. The $38M he was owed for 2026 was restructured and deferred over the next few years rather than wiped off the books.
The part that gets lost: that 2020 season looked exactly like what they paid for. The walks were still there, a .418 OBP. The body just never let him stack seasons after that.
So where does it land for you, below Pujols and Hamilton or the worst of the bunch? And did anyone actually see this coming in December 2019, or was it a fair bet at the time?

❓Question/Suggestions The next Manager could be a non-Angel
As a fan, does it matter to you that a coach was a former Halo?
Mike Scioscia famously never wore an Angels uniform prior to being the manager for us and look where that got us, a World Series trophy and some of the best baseball we've seen in recent memory.
I've put some thought and done research on coaches on the market. In the last 10 years, most of the World Series winners were managed by coaches with over 10 years of experience. Experience in leadership is crucial moving forward and I feel this "experimentation era" should end especially with new ownership.
I've seen a lot of people on here and other socials wishing that former Angels Torii Hunter or Albert Pujols should be our next skip but I'm still not convinced in either one of them being the head skipper. I like them individually and understand that they both bring some experience/value to the org but maybe better suited as an assistant or specialist coach. Neither has enough experience leading a MLB equivalent team.
With that being said, I have some potential suiters (please don't flame me) that COULD be a good fit here in Anaheim. I'm definitely open to criticism and other opinions though.
Aaron Boone (best timing since NY is flirting with letting him go and he's got recent mlb managerial experience).
Dave Roberts (EXTREMELY unlikely, but I've seen a lot of dumb fans calling for his removal)
Benji Gil (he's a former halo and assistant coach with more managerial experience)
Dusty Baker (currently within the SF org as an advisor)
"Run it Back" Ron Washington (yea, I said it. I liked him and want him back)
Alex Cora (absolute last option, not stoked but it's better than Suzuki)

📝 Discussion Which Angels are most likely to be traded before the end of 2027?
I asked AI to rank the top 10 most likely players to get moved next year. Here are the probabilities it came up with, along with my thoughts on each.
- Reid Detmers - 75%
As tough as it would be to see him go after starting to put it all together, it makes sense. He’s under control for just 2 more seasons, and realistically I don’t see the Angels being able to completely turn things around and become legitimate WS contenders within that time. Coming off a great year with an especially hot finish, he should get a hefty return. I see them easily getting a top 50, possibly top 30 prospect, along with a couple other quality prospects. Giants, Cubs, White Sox and Braves would be likely suitors.
- Yusei Kikuchi - 70%
If he’s pitching reasonably well and they can find a suitor, he will most likely be moved. His salary heavily limits the return, but they still may be able to get a prospect that fits within the organizations top 20-30. For a guy leaving at the end of the season anyway, they should probably take whatever they can get.
- Zach Neto - 45%
Another tough one considering he’s been excellent and still young. However they’ve shown they are willing to move controllable players, so I think there’s a chance if they get the right offer. He has 3 seasons of control and is coming off a 5.2 WAR season, which of course makes him quite valuable. But again, I don’t know that the Angels will be contending within that window. If they can get a franchise altering return to them up for the next decade, Kroenke will likely consider it. I see them targeting a top 10-20 prospect, an additional top 100 prospect, and another strong prospect with upside.
- Josh Lowe - 40%
This is one I wasn’t thinking of. I doubt he really has any value currently. My guess is they throw him out there to start the year, and if he rebounds, they trade him at the deadline. I don’t think I’d personally put those odds very high though. Potential return would probably be a lower tier prospect or another struggling former top prospect. Probably more likely he gets DFAd.
- Sam Bachman - 38%
Not sure how I feel about this one, as he’s a guy who’s under control through 2030 and could still end up being a good high leverage arm. The spotty command and injury history are causes for concern, but the FB velocity and whiff rate were in the 96th percentile this year. Teams are always looking to add premium velo arms that can miss bats for the postseason. If he breaks out next year and commands a nice return at the deadline, I could see it happening. Otherwise, I don’t see the point in trading him away for a bag of chips when he has a lot of control.
- Ben Joyce - 35%
I think 35% is even way too high for Joyce. He’s obviously been massively limited on innings due to injury, and I don’t see a team wanting to trade for him unless he breaks out next year and stays fully healthy. Trading a potentially elite closer under control through 2030 doesn’t make sense unless another team offers an exceptional return. Although, his arm may just be a ticking time bomb, so maybe it’s worth cashing in when the time is right..
- Grayson Rodriguez - 32%
After a disappointing 2026, it wouldn’t make sense to trade him before next season. If he rebounds and stays healthy, there’s a chance he gets dealt at the deadline, but I see this as pretty unlikely, probably a lot lower than 32%. Even if he rebounds, I see them hanging on to him.
- Nolan Schanuel - 28%
Usually, teams would be quite interested in a young player that can control the bat with elite plate discipline and get on base. However, him being limited to 1B with poor power and speed greatly limits his value. Still, he could be a valuable left handed bat to teams. A top 10 organizational prospect is possible. I actually think he could be more likely to get moved than the last couple guys listed, if Kroenke has his mind set on signing a slugging 1B in free agency.
- Mike Trout - 20%
Trout remains the face of the franchise, but the Angels have to consider whether keeping him through a multiyear rebuild makes sense. Obvious challenges include his age, contract, injury history and the no trade clause, making the odds of this actually going through quite slim. The return would be minimal unless they pay a very substantial portion of his salary. Kroenke might be willing to tear it down to the bones, but I really doubt Trout wants to move his family at this point, so I think 20% odds are even much too high.
- Christian Moore - 15%
His power potential and ability to play second base give him an interesting ceiling. However his very high K rate is concerning. His numbers at the major league level have been terrible. There’s still some long term upside but I doubt he has much of any trade value. Doesn’t make any sense to trade him imo. Seems like another Adell situation, probably best to let him simmer in the minors for a while.
Personally, I think Kroenke won’t be afraid to tear it down and try to completely revamp the system. So I think Detmers and Kikuchi are very likely, Neto being a strong possibility, and Schanuel/Bachman being plausible.
