I'm hoping it's okay to post this here since my girlfriend and I are looking to move into a two-bedroom apartment or house somewhere around the Allentown/Quakertown area.
My girlfriend is 23 and recently graduated college. She moved back in with her mother after graduating, and unfortunately the situation at home has become increasingly emotionally and financially abusive. She deals with constant verbal insults, arguments, controlling behavior, and approximately $400 being taken from every paycheck to cover loans that aren't hers and aren't in her name.
She's genuinely afraid of her mother coming home because of how bad the verbal abuse becomes, and she's reached the point where she'll lock herself in her room just to get away from it.
I'm 24 and have lived on my own for several years. We both work, and together we're confident that we can afford our rent and bills once we're established. The problem is getting enough saved for the upfront costs of moving.
I currently live in a run-down one-bedroom apartment, so having her move in with me isn't really an option. We also have two cats, Flake and Richard, and a turtle named Tuck who are coming with us.
We're trying to raise $8,000 to cover the initial costs of getting into a place, including the first and last month's rent, security deposit, moving truck and supplies, utilities, basic necessities, and some emergency cushion.
We're not looking for someone to support us indefinitely. We just need help getting over the initial financial hurdle so we can get her out of an unhealthy living situation and establish a home together.
If anyone is willing to donate, we'd be incredibly grateful. If you can't donate, even sharing the fundraiser would help tremendously.
