Q & A FAQs
In an effort to cut back on simple repeat questions, we will be making an FAQ page. Until the FAQ page is up in the page header, we will leave this as a pinned post. Please drop a comment with any suggestions you have for additional FAQs and/or corrections to this draft.
1) How can I stake my Algos?
In general, you can stake in one of 4 ways:
—Solo Staking: Solo staking involves running your own node. Though anyone can run a node and propose blocks, to get Staking Rewards your account must have a minimum 30k Algo balance. To solo stake, see the section below about running a node.
—Delegated Staking: Delegated staking involves utilizing a third-party to run a node on the your behalf while your Algo remains your wallet at all times. Like solo-staking, delegated staking requires a 30k Algo minimum balance to receive rewards. The third party validator may or may not charge fees for this service depending on the validator chosen. To do delegated staking, check out Valar.
—Pooled Staking: Staking pools enable groups of individuals to participate in consensus together. Unlike solo or delegated staking, there is no minimum Algo requirement. Users are able to stake their Algo to a validator and get rewarded based on the rewards the validator receives. The pool/validator operator may or may not charge fees for this service, or pay out special incentives, depending on the validator/pool chosen. And, Decentralized pooled staking is available through Reti Pools (an open source project that allows anyone to setup or join a pool). Unique staking options are also available, such as staking via DEX liquidity pools (e.g. certain PactFi LPs participate in consensus and earn consensus rewards) and the Tardly No Loss Lottery (staking rewards are pooled into a periodic prize drawing with one winner taking the pot based on a stake weighted VRF raffle).
—Liquid Staking: Liquid staking applications allow users to stake their Algo while maintaining liquidity for use in DeFi. While each platform is unique, the typical process asks users to deposit Algo and mint new tokens that represent the ownership and value of the staked Algo. There is no minimum Algo requirement for liquid staking. The liquid staking application typically charges a fee for this service in the form of keeping a certain percentage of rewards. However, certain LST providers may from time to time run promotions that reduce fees or even pay out extra incentives. Liquid staking products are available through Tinyman (tALGO), Messina (mALGO), Folks Finance (xALGO), and CompX (cALGO).
For more information, see the Algorand Foundation’s website.
2) How much are Staking Rewards?
Staking Rewards are paid out to validators for each block they propose, in real time, with no lockups or slashing. The initial rewards for block proposers started at 10 Algo + 50% of transaction fees for each block that is added to the blockchain. The 10 Algo amount decays by 1% every 1M blocks (which, at 1 block per 2.8 secs, is roughly 32.4 days). If you are using options besides solo staking (e.g. delegation, pools, LSTs), there may or may not be a fee charged by the node runner, pool runner, LST provider, etc.
3) What are the hardware requirements running a node?
The minimum node requirements set out in the Algorand Dev Docs recommend the following specs:
- 8 vCPU (a 4 Core/8 thread physical CPU meets this spec)
- 16 GB RAM
- 100 GB NVMe SSD or equivalent
- 1 Gbps connection with low latency
Though lower spec machines may work, these are recommended specs, particularly for CPU, RAM, and SSD. For internet, lower bandwidth speeds generally will work, though 100 Mbps download should be considered bare minimum.
4) How can I set up a node?
Instructions for setting up a node are described in the Algorand Dev Docs. To simplify installation, the Algorand Foundation has put out an official terminal user interface program called NodeKit. The official NodeKit install helper is found here, and the documentation/instructions for NodeKit is found here.
Additionally, some community members have also created third-party, open source software for running a node. FUNC is a community made solution for Windows, Linux, and MacOS.
5) I’m having trouble issuing transactions on [XYZ] dApp/site. What’s wrong?
You may have old WalletConnect sessions open that you never closed out. Try the following: (1) disconnect your wallet from the dApp/site; (2) disconnect open WalletConnect sessions ( (a) select “more” in Defly or “settings” in Pera, (b) select WalletConnect, (c) disconnect all sessions); (3) reload your browser and restart the wallet app and try again.
6) I'm getting small transactions/dust with links in them (e.g. “go to XYZ to claim a reward”). What are these? Is my wallet compromised? What should I do?
Receiving dust does not mean your wallet is compromised. However, transactions with notes directing you to web links are almost certainly a phishing attempt. So, do not go to links/sites contained in the notes fields of unsolicited transactions.

Developer Algorand Developers community and perhaps discord
Please can someone advise what is the best forums for Algorand developers and build side to belong to. On top of this chat and Algorand Official which are obviously good for the community and updates.
I’m thinking more the deeper tech use side and for those who have/are actually building on Algorand.
A community where if you are running on main net Tx etc and building / using Algorand, where the best tips/answers and advice would be if you find any blockers later down the road or need suggestions.
Ideally where some of the actual Algorand workers are a part of and perhaps somewhere where they officially release early news on new tech changes, updates you should do etc.

General The best form of marketing is usage
I hope this feels a good topic and title for the forum.
The greatest networks and systems may not be dependent on the people they employ, perhaps with exception to the creators and founders that set their plans in motion.
More the greatest systems are reliant mainly on the underlying systems network strength and Usage.
Usage = marketing
I can’t think of any company or system or product that truly became great, that wasn’t driven by the Usage of the underlying product
Not saying either way who or what this will best suit and just an observation here, but if a lot of recent posts are true, then the actual usage of Algorand appears to be increasing.
When picturing Algorand I mainly picture the tech and Silvio perhaps.
Other chains in opinion, you tend to picture the people more than the tech.
Eventually is it fair to say that you should only picture the tech and teams will shift significantly and hopefully logically in line with the time horizon of the chain being almost self sufficient by itself
If Algorand is prioritising Usage and Build over general marketing campaigns that could (big if) be key if Usage ramps up significantly.
So is the best form of marketing = Usage ?

News Built NECKWIRE to keep tabs on William Herkelrath and the Algorand ecosystem

I've been building NECKWIRE, a project that follows William Herkelrath and keeps an eye on what's happening around the Algorand ecosystem.
The idea is to make it easier to keep up with the CEO's public commentary and relevant ecosystem developments without constantly hunting across different sources.
Check it out: https://neckelrath.pages.dev/neckwire
Still a work in progress, but that's the direction I'm taking it. Curious what the Algorand community thinks what would you want to see tracked, and what sources should be added?
Bullish from the neck up.

General Node question
I've been running a node for about 6 months. I've been receiving deposits almost daily. My bag has grown by 50% over that time, but my deposits have stayed the same.
Do I need to update my deposit in the node?

Q & A collateral on Folks
I am considering starting a loan with collateral from some USDCa I have deposited at Folks.
Could I, say, use the collateral to buy an equal value amount of xAlgo and tAlgo and put it in a pool that would be worth it vs costs on Folks end?
Other options? The deposited USDC is sitting there getting a decent return but I feel I should be making the USDC work harder.

General Moment of truth for Algorand?
I’ve been around Algorand for more than 5 years and I feel like it’s a moment of truth for Algorand.
It’s been really great on the tech side with the solved trilemma, quantum resistance, nodes rewarding and so on while maintaining a perfect level of reliability.
Unfortunately, it has not been so great on adoption/expansion. There’s been some hope with big or promising companies (I’m looking at you, FIFA and Flybondi) but it didn’t work out. And during all this time, the business model of the Foundation and Tech was to sell Algorand to finance the development of new features and support marketing. It clearly led to a very bad token price dynamics. Considering the importance of the market cap to attract new investors and users, it wasn’t a good thing for the Algorand adoption.
And now we have a new CEO who said out loud that having a foundation selling Algo isn’t a good business model. I think that it goes in the right direction. As a company, you should find customers and not sell your own stock.
We will see how it plays out in the upcoming months, but instead of trying to slowly increase private fundings while continuing to sell Algos, the foundation should initiate a sudden change. Here is my proposal.
Algorand Foundation should:
- Rely solely on their current treasury (more than $30M) and private fundings for operating costs. It should allow a full year of work no matter what and so complete (more or less) the QR roadmap.
- Reduce their costs to the minimum. Stop paying for dumb stuff and especially fake marketing. The best marketing is the price action.
- Commit to not spending the 1 billion Algo that they have left (it’s a HUGE amount): burn it or keep it for the nodes rewards.
- Make a symbolic Algo buy. It sends the message that the foundation is not anymore running against the investors.
Advantages for the foundation: you focus on real added value and partnerships as you need it to survive. You anticipate the end of your Algo reserve that will happen anyway.
If Algorand still lags behind in terms of price action (and so adoption) in the next cycle, I’m afraid it will definitely be too late for this project to succeed. It would join the graveyard of the best tech projects that failed to find their audience.

News German Crypto tax changes
Hi all. Any German Algo holders?
Bit of a slap to the face for anyone holding crypto in Germany. The 1 year hold and sell tax free period will be gone on 01 Jan 2027. Although if you buy before Dec 31 2026 1 year ruling is still in effect.
I was planning to hold until 2030 so now need to rethink things. Fuck German tax authorities.
What's people's plans now? Do we expect further selling for next few days?

NFT/Gaming Four Algorand games, four very different experiences
I’ve been spending some time exploring the Algorand gaming ecosystem, and I wanted to share my thoughts on four projects that are taking pretty different approaches to blockchain gaming. Each has something different going for it And it’s great to see actual games being built rather than people just slapping NFTs onto a generic gameplay loop.
🐃 Inu Moo: Idle Realms
This one really hit me with the nostalgia. The progressive skill system brought me straight back to my childhood playing RuneScape. Mining ore, leveling up, and taking those resources over to smithing to work my way through copper, bronze, and iron armor was incredibly satisfying. I loved being able to leverage those skills to gear up and overtune my character for combat. With farming and crafting mixed in, it also gave me some cozy Stardew Valley vibes. The combination of steady progression, interconnected skills, and always having something to work toward makes this game really enjoyable.
⚔️ Dark Coin: Dungeon of Champions
Dungeon of Champions is a really fun text-based dungeon crawler. There’s something about delving into a randomly generated dungeon without knowing exactly what’s waiting around the corner that keeps things exciting. Fighting rats, gargoyles, and ogres, stumbling across treasure chests and secret items, or finding a hidden door with a boss waiting behind it makes each run feel like its own adventure. I really enjoy that sense of suspense and discovery. One of the coolest parts is taking the gold you’ve gathered and using it to help fight a dragon alongside the wider community every week. That community-wide goal adds another dimension to the experience and makes your individual dungeon runs feel like they’re contributing to something bigger.
🗡️ Lumi Rogue
Lumi Rogue is a cool roguelike that has a surprisingly addictive gameplay loop. The music creates a compelling atmosphere as you make your way deeper into the dungeon, discovering randomly generated items and figuring out how to make the most of what you find. Every run gives you another chance to experiment and improve. I will admit, it took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize that the different armor sets had set bonuses. Once that clicked, it added another layer to how I thought about equipment and building my character. I’m looking forward to seeing how it continues to develop.
🪺 BLOP World / BLOPKU
Tomorrow is a big day for BLOP World with the launch of BLOPKU Season 1, and I’m really excited to give it a try. The creature-collecting concept looks interesting, and it’s clear that a lot of love has gone into building this ecosystem. The artwork is fantastic, and the BLOP World community is one of the most active on Algorand. I think having that foundation gives the project something special to build on. The first few seasons the creature-collecting mechanics will be combined with a strategy simulator. I’m excited to see how that develops into a deeper gameplay experience.
Overall, I’m really encouraged by what I’m seeing in Algorand gaming, but I’m curious to hear from other people in the Algorand community. Have you played any of these? What other Algorand games should I be checking out?
