Today marks a major milestone for SelahOS development.
On October 17, 2026, we successfully connected the Akai MPC Studio mk2 to MPC 3 running on SelahOS.
This goes beyond basic MIDI support. The MPC software is communicating with the hardware, synchronizing pad colors, updating the controller display, and maintaining a stable bidirectional connection.
The breakthrough comes through SelahConnect, our creative-hardware compatibility framework.
Our broader goal is to make SelahOS a platform where musicians and producers can use more of their existing equipment without being limited by the absence of official Linux support.
The current implementation has passed an initial six-minute stability test with hundreds of messages exchanged and no reported errors. There is still more testing ahead before we consider it production-ready.
We’re keeping some of the implementation details internal while we develop and validate the compatibility technology, but we wanted to share the working hardware and celebrate the milestone with the community.
What audio interface or MIDI controller would you like us to investigate next?

I have the MPK mini, and while it does work, there is a massive oversight that has been discussed here and elsewhere regarding the velocity curve used by the mini and derivatives.
After following the advice revealing the hidden velocity curve adjustment menu featured in posts here (hold full level button, adjust k1 through k5 in hidden menu, hold full send to apply) there is a massive flaw that remains in the mpk mini that has been the bane of my existence. I am considering refunding the damn thing, it's that bad. And that is that there is no way to adjust the minimum velocity whatsoever using this menu, as it seems hard coded to assume a k0 velocity that ends up bottoming out at 8.
The issue is described in more detail here:
https://incenp.org/notes/2022/akai-mpk-mini3-velocity.html
The solution proposed by the blog above is, awkwardly for me, linux based. (Yeah, i know, i should switch.) Whereas I cannot find any working method that isn't extremely cursed or high latency that i can run on a Windows machine. This is my own fault to some extent for using windows but I would like to ask if anyone here has any knowledge or ideas regarding a way to force the minimum velocity to be a full level of 127 velocity, because every time I play slur notes or staccato inevitably there ends up being a few that get registered by the mini as minimum velocity 8, which for all intents and purposes is practically silent as if i'd completely missed when pressing the key.
Worse, none of the midi sequencing programs I am comfortable using (that is, ones that focus primarily on midi and not live music production or non-midi audio sequencing) support the LV2 plugins that were my only hope. Google has failed me. akaiMPC subreddit, you are my only hope (besides the author of the blog above whom i shot an email in hopes they're around)
When I saw this model on sale, i thought that the full level toggle would apply to the whole thing, not just the drum pads, and honestly i feel kind of cheated by this "professional" device having such a fundamental flaw. Before I let that taint my experience to the point of issuing a return and refund request, i wanted to make one last effort to see if a workaround exists, as the form factor of the mini is too perfect for my workstation to not at least try.
My preferred midi sequencing software is Anvil Studio (freeware, powerful but janky, excellent for adjusting midi CC events and tweaking chord voicing with its composer view) and MidiEditor (free, but lacking any plugin support at all, with its main utility being intuitive mouse and keyboard editing for notes, selecting, duplicating, etc.). I have tried reaper and similar contemporary DAWs but it is not suitable for a hobbyist like me at this stage.
If anyone has any suggestions or solutions - such as a working standalone LV2 plugin host that simply listens to a midi device and then outputs the plugin-altered bitstream to a virtual midi cable that will actually show up in windows - please, please do share. There's a linux one called JALV but I can't find an equivalent for Windows.

What are some things you’d like to see from a modded os on the newer Mpc models?
I’ll go first, I’d like to see plug and play compatibility for Apc controllers for things like the Q-links and clip matrix .
