Earlier this year some of Ed's property was auctioned off by Julien's. He had two storage units that were bought by two different parties. A lot was sold on eBay. Some went to Julien's. Disclaimer, I know him a bit and have a bunch of mutual friends. I was in communication with the buyer and was trying to get his audio recordings. My goal would have been to preserve and share. The person in possession decided to go with Julien's and let them take everything and auction it off. The auction was happening while I was busy and I was really confused because the only auction that seemed to have audio recordings appeared to be missing all of his analog tapes. Which was what was most interesting. Lots of 70's and 80's Zappa rehearsals, gigs, interviews. This whole thing just saddens me for various reasons. I think the interesting audio recordings were cherry picked out and not auctioned. I had an email or two with Julien's and they indicated there were no analog cassettes in the lot (413) but there certainly where in the collection. Just wondering now that some months have gone by, if anyone happens to have any insight.

What are your favorite lyrics by the maestro?

This is my first tattoo. I think it came out awesome!

It's so unbelievably hard to choose, every lineup is incredible and unique in their own way.

The Flo & Eddie era with Aynsley Dunbar, or the Roxy lineup are the 2 that I've been flip flopping between. What do you fellow compatriots think?

The bass is there, but I can barely hear it. I love have a good thumpin' bass coming through my subwoofer. I was disappointed. Such a great album otherwise.

Go see this band if you are able. Terry was a treat and they all sounded great. This is a group of veterans at the top of their game. City of Tiny Lights was fun but just fair. It's a nice nod to Frank from these three Zappa School students, though. I guess they decided that Jones Crusher wasn't an option! 😆

Anyone else have Prelude to King Kong as one of their favorite Mothers songs, or atleast one of their favorite Uncle Meat songs? I haven't seen praised or talked about ever, but I heavily prefer it to the official King Kong variations and it's by far my favorite piece of music from Frank Zappa.

I wanna know if I'm alone on this.

I’m sure you guys have seen this but just in case, check out this video of the Tedeschi Trucks Band playing Willie the Pimp. The best thing, as is the case with most of their songs, is Derek Truck’s solo. AND he’s playing one of Frank’s old SG’s. I have the feeling that Dweezil had something to do with it. I’d love to hear the old Dweez jam with the band.

I hope this link works. If not a quick search on YouTube will bring it up.

Hi. I’m Bryce G.D. Tulloch. Experimental musician, filmmaker and founder of the YouTube channel Wolve. So right now, I’m in the process of making a full on video essay/documentary on Zappa. Right now, I’m kinda stuck (I’ve written up to that one collab album Beef and Zappa made with each other Bongo Fury) so I was wondering if I would be able to get someone to help out with providing footage, fact checking my script, or even give me little known factoids about the guy that I could use. If anyone’s willing to help out, please let me know

here is a fresh transfer! no jump cuts.

i initially posted this in fall 2024 but was displeased with my own transfer, so i took it down in 2025 and then never got around to reuploading it...and then life got complicated and i just never got back to it.

i still like this tighter version - it's a much more cohesive watch, but they cut way too hard. some kind of compromise cut between the 164 minute version and this would be nice.

Randomly listening to Ahmad Jamal today... until... (Start at 1:05)

Live at the Pershing vol2. Gone with the wind 1:05

UPDATE: Huge thanks to everyone for all of the great recommendations! I have lots of listening to do this week!

Fairly new to Zappa, so I don't know the full catalog. I'm looking for all-instrumental songs with an interesting, upbeat, or steady groove.

I'm familiar with Spiders of Destiny, Apostrophe, and Peaches en Regalia.

Love to hear what other songs like those are sprinkled throughout the catalog.

Thanks!

I saw someone posting this version on Google Drive, but the link expired. Did anyone save it? Could send it to me if possible?

I can’t stop, too many boots out there
