How to use "don't" in Yorùbá

Hello,

Báwo ni,

Let's move away from feelings and discuss grammar.

Whenever you are giving command and you want to use "don't".

For younger person - - Má (high tone).

Older person /plural- - - - - Ẹ má or you can be polite and add Ẹ jọ̀ọ́ - - please

Let's look at some example.

  1. Má jẹun - - don't eat.

  2. Má lọ sí bé---Don't go there.

  3. Má sùn - - - don't sleep.

Older/ plural.

4.Ẹ jọ̀ọ́, Ẹ má lọ sí bẹ̀---please don't go there.

5.Ẹ má pè mí lọ́la-----don't call me tomorrow.

Can you give me your own examples?

Your Yorùbá tutor.

Adéọlá.

Scammer Manuel Naya in Virginia

Several of us who paid Manuel Naya / [u/mannerz416](u/mannerz416)
for spiritual/Ifá work have now found one another and compared what we were sent.

We discovered that multiple clients were sent the same photographs in connection with work that had been presented to each of us as individualized/personal work.

I am attaching examples so people can compare the photographs themselves and make their own judgment.

I originally found Manuel through [u/Fragrant-Pie7113](u/Fragrant-Pie7113), who recommended him on Reddit and directed people to him. Other clients have also told me they contacted Manuel following her recommendations.
Since these concerns emerged, [u/Fragrant-Pie7113](u/Fragrant-Pie7113) has told us that she tried contacting Manuel and that her messages are not going through. We cannot independently verify what communication is currently taking place between them. I am naming her because her recommendations are how several clients say they were introduced to Manuel, and that is relevant context for anyone researching him.
After clients began comparing our messages, payment records and photographs, we discovered the duplicated ritual images.
This is particularly concerning because people seeking spiritual help may be doing so while dealing with heartbreak, grief, fear or other vulnerable circumstances. Whatever your beliefs about spiritual work itself, clients should be able to make informed decisions about what they are paying for and whether material represented as personal to them has also been supplied to other clients.

If you have worked with Manuel Naya / u/mannerz416
, preserve your messages, payment receipts, dates and every photograph or video you were sent. Do not delete your evidence.

I am naming [u/Fragrant-Pie7113](u/Fragrant-Pie7113) because she publicly recommended Manuel and directed clients to him, and multiple clients reached him through those recommendations. She has since told us that she cannot contact him. That information is relevant context for anyone who found, or is considering using, Manuel through recommendations on Reddit.
Photos attached: examples of ritual photographs multiple clients report receiving in connection with supposedly individualized work.

How can we all have the same exact photos for very different rituals ? You be the judge. If any other victims please come forward. We are filing a court case against him.

Learning more about Yoruba faith

What are good resources to learn about Yoruba faith. I plan on learning Yoruba eventually, but I live in Washington state so there’s not lots of people I can talk to about it. From what I’ve learned about the Yoruba faith, I think it is beautiful & I want to learn more so I can try and practice it, and I know the best way to learn is through word of mouth

What do you know about the traditional Yoruba faith?

I‘d love to learn more about Yoruba spirituality. My dad briefly explained Ifa to me and I also heard about the Orisha. Though it seems like a lot of the information I find is very biased towards Christianity and Christians seem to love demonizing everything that isn’t Christian and/or European.

I want to reconnect with my heritage and my ancestors, the lives they lived and the philosophy that shaped our beautiful culture. What can you tell me about Yoruba spirituality/religion and can you recommend any resources for further reading? Thanks

There is a call and response between Abbey Lincoln and Olatunji [Here - Here when she sings the names of the African Tribes followed by Olatunji chanting a Yoruba dialect (Ogu/Egun?). As I am not a native speaker of any dialect I would be very pleased to know if anyone can transcribe and translate what he is saying in the song. Thank you.

Things I've learned while building a Yoruba community ifẹ

Things I’ve learned while building a Yoruba community app
After building a community app for Yoruba people, here are a few things that surprised me:
• Most people join to make friends first. Dating usually comes later.
• Anonymous questions quickly became one of the most active features.
• Games increased user retention far more than I expected.
• A lot of people simply join to observe before participating.
• Men are generally more willing to make the first move, while women tend to take their time.
• Despite requesting ID verification, many users upload passport photos instead of their ID cards. 😅
• The biggest lesson? Your users will shape your product in ways you never imagined.
If you’re Yoruba and you’ve used Ifẹ̀, I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts.
What’s one thing you’d improve, add, or remove?

Would love your feedback on Yoruba heritage app

hello,

growing up you could say I’ve always been interested in history, philosophy but it was mostly on Western history etc that I read up. when I got married I realised how little I knew of my own heritage, I had a small interest in looking into it but just never did. but after having children I knew I needed to know something of my heritage to pass it on. in the process of reading up on Yoruba heritage and asking around I thought it’d be worth building an application to consolidate the heritage as I felt it was quite disparate and certain books were in an archived formed that most people wouldn’t dust off, so to speak. anyways, I’d very much appreciate your feedback on the webapp, what are your first impressions? does it make sense? do you find it useful at all?

So not so while ago I started considering myself as Nigerian(pls don't take it weird) because as most people would mistake me for Nigerian and where I'm from I hate everything about it and find no beauty about it so I went by it to the point I made a Nigerian friend who's Igbo so I genuinely believe my ancestors were west central African but they werweren't involved in the slave trade as I was still born in east Africa but not west Africa and central Africa it's my dad who is born there (drc congo) I believe they were Yoruba and I even picked out a Yoruba name (Apéké folasade) and learning Yoruba and everything Yoruba and I feel very uncomfortable with where I was born when ever I see a Nigerian flag all I feel is proudness so can anyone tell me what is going on?

Looking for a classic, somber Yoruba song used in mystery radio programs (Lyrics included!)

Please I need your help tracking down an old, deeply somber Yoruba song. I have been searching for it for ages but haven't had any luck.

It’s a very reflective, solemn song often used as background music or theme songs for mystery and investigative radio programs like Iriri Aye / Nnkan be).

The lyrics go like this:

"Ẹniyàn, ẹniyàn, yẹ iṣẹ́ ọwọ́ rẹ wò, ẹniyàn.

Ọmọ ẹniyàn, ẹ ò r'áyè lódè náà..."

It has a very heavy, sober tone, warning humanity to examine their deeds because our time on earth is short.

Does anyone know the exact title of this track, the original artist or where I can find a link to listen to it?

Thank you so much for your help.

Translation needed for the phrase "Live and Let Live"

The translator I'm using says “Gbé kí o sì jẹ́ kí àwọn míì gbé” but I want to verify as this will be used on a book cover. An equivalent of this phrase is preferred over a direct translation. Whatever resonates best with the culture is ideal! More on the poetic sounding/formal side if it’s between that and casual. It is about freedom and allowing others to be free through the acceptance of our differences. Thank you in advance!
