My background is in 2D animation, so while I have a passion for anatomy, structure and line quality, I've just never gotten into lighting and rendering. Since the Canadian animation industry crashed, I've been working in the trades, but my eventual goal is to get back into the creative industry. I've recently started a new job that's giving me a lot more time and energy for drawing and painting (though fewer hours). In the past weeks I revisited a flat drawing I did and tried to make it into a full render.
Since I started drawing furry art, I've been having a lot of fun! Fur can be extremely fun to draw and paint. I feel like my big problem is rendering other things, like hair and skin. I also feel as though I'm losing structure when I render, though that could just be because I'm trying for a lineless style. I have a friend who's told me I should give up the lineless style and lean into my strength in lineart (which I did professionally for about three years), but lineart is something I find a little tedious, and I don't know how to incorporate it into a full render. That being said, it's still rewarding so I'm open to the idea.
Ultimately I just want to know what I need to do if I want to really lean into this. I've never really sold my own art before, and I'm doing it pseudonymously for now, so I'm essentially starting my art career from square one.
