Life in the Netherlands: How can I move beyond low-paid work?

I’m 25 and living in Limburg, the Netherlands.
I currently work as a cashier and speak Dutch well enough to have passed my integration exams, including B1-level language exams.
I’d like to move into a more stable career, preferably reception, administration, or hospitality. I’m particularly interested in an MBO level 3 vocational programme where I can earn money while studying.
I don’t want to stay in physically exhausting work forever, and I’d like better long-term career prospects.
For people familiar with the Dutch education and employment system:
• Is a paid BBL programme a good way to change careers?
• Which MBO level 3 qualifications offer realistic job opportunities?
• What would you do in my position to improve your income over the next three to five years?
I’d appreciate advice from people who have successfully changed careers in the Netherlands.

SAP job market

Hello,

I am based in France and been working at SAP for the past years, mostly in developmentand consulting.

I was very curious how the job market for SAP related roles is in Amsterdam or the Netherlands in general since I would like to move there for my partner next year.

Moving to the Netherlands : Should I target Junior or Medior Data Engineer roles with 3 years of experience?

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to the Netherlands in December and planning to look for Data Engineer roles. I have around 3 years of total IT experience, but about 1.5 years of that was mainly in testing/QA, so my actual data engineering experience is closer to 1.5 years.
I also have a career gap of around 1 year. I won’t require visa sponsorship and have the right to work in the Netherlands.
I’m trying to understand a few things about the Dutch job market:
● Should I focus on junior or medior Data Engineer roles?
● Should I present myself as having 3 years of overall experience or 1.5 years of relevant DE experience?
● How much does a 1-year career gap affect hiring chances?
● How difficult is it to find a DE job in the Netherlands right now, especially without Dutch language skills?
● Does not needing sponsorship make a significant difference?

I’m mainly focusing on SQL, Python, Azure, Databricks and PySpark.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone working in data engineering or hiring in the Netherlands. Thanks!
