So I have decided to give my OP a final chance before I decide to resign. Read
I’m currently a Shift Leader at Whataburger, and I aggressively pursued this position specifically because I wanted the opportunity to lead employees, manage restaurant operations, and run shifts independently as the Person in Charge (PIC).
When I first started, I was given opportunities to run shifts independently, which was exactly what I wanted. However, over time, I feel like my Operating Partner (OP) has gradually stripped away those responsibilities.
My OP has a tendency to reassign shifts that I was originally scheduled to run as PIC, handing them over to other managers instead. She also tends to micromanage and criticize many of the decisions I make. I understand that constructive criticism is part of leadership development, and I’m completely open to feedback, but constantly feeling second-guessed has become exhausting.
We previously had a conversation about why she wasn’t comfortable allowing me to run shifts independently. I genuinely listened to her concerns, accepted the feedback, and made changes to how I approach certain responsibilities.
Despite making those improvements, I continue to experience the same issues with my PIC assignments being reassigned.
At this point, I sometimes feel more like a regular Team Member wearing a Shift Leader uniform than an actual member of management.
What’s frustrating is that I genuinely enjoy working at Whataburger. I know how to operate every station, enjoy supervising employees, and want to continue developing my leadership abilities. I didn’t pursue this position just for the title or the pay. I pursued it because I wanted the responsibility of running a restaurant.
I’m considering sitting down with my OP for a serious conversation about my expectations and whether there’s a realistic opportunity for me to regain my independent PIC responsibilities.
However, I’m also reaching the point where I’m considering requesting a transfer or resigning entirely if nothing changes.
Could I tell my OP that if I don’t get my PIC shifts back that im out or would that be a dick move?
My end goal: I want my PIC solo shifts back if not I want out no point of keeping a job I don’t enjoy
