I know I have enough food. I'm just too fatigued to think straight. I can buy bread or w/e for ease, I just need to mostly use what I have. Fridge includes 1 cauliflower, half a butternut squash, and 2 bell peppers. Hummus is tangy olive. I also have a white onion and an apple.

Saw these at my local grocery store

Saw these at my local grocer to my surprise. I'd love to surprise my wife with a dish.

Any recommendations on how to cook, or what pairs nice?

Price is wild compared to normal stock of exotic mushrooms so I figure I got to try!

Squash!

I excitedly bought an acorn squash and a spaghetti squash the other day and now don’t know what to make with either. Looking for some good recommendations 🎃

I love cooking, anything from simple, to adventurous and difficult.

Need help with Halloween/Autumn menu ideas

Ok, I honestly have no idea if this is the right subreddit for this or where to ask this question. But I’m trying to come up with a Halloween/fall menu and I need help! I want to come up with an appetizer, an entree, a dessert and an alcoholic drink as well as a non alcoholic drink.

My ideas for the alcoholic drink was to make a fall themed sangria with fruits you normally find during autumn.

My appetizer idea was to make a caprese salad and add olives to the mozzarella balls make them look like eyeballs.

My dessert idea was to make dirt and worms. A classic!

But I’m stumped on what to do for the entree as well as the non-alcoholic drink.

If anyone has any ideas on what to make or if you have any other appetizer, dessert, and alcoholic drinks, I’m open to them as well. No pork suggestions please.

Happy early Halloween! 🎃

Any tasty ideas to use up these beans?

I couldn't resist the bargain, £1 a tin. They're 3.12kg each, so I have many, many beans.

I'm a big fan of my slow cooker, so anything involving that would be a bonus!

Want to make strawberry salsa with cilantro lime chicken, no idea what to do for sides

I'm willing to buy stuff if necessary, but I've got white rice, russet potatoes, frozen corn, frozen green beans, and frozen broccoli. I have 1.5 lemons and soooo many seasonings, I've also got baby carrots, yellow onions, and Chicken broth, and cherry tomato broth.

My family is allergic to pineapple and mushrooms, and shellfish if that helps

Need simple meal ideas for dorm living with NO fridge

Hi everyone! I'm a college student living in a room without a kitchen or a refrigerator. My cooking setup is quite limited since I only have a rice cooker, a small electric hot pot, and a single-burner portable butane stove with a frying pan. Storing fresh produce or leftovers overnight is my biggest challenge without a fridge, so I currently rely on room-temperature stable ingredients like eggs, canned food, rice, shelf-stable sausages, and veggies that don't spoil quickly. Do you have any recipe ideas, cooking hacks, or ingredient suggestions for this setup? Any tips on how to manage meal portions without leftovers would also be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

Jar of preserved lemons

I bought these a while ago and they’ve been sitting on the shelf since. I love to cook but feel intimidated by them and not sure what to use them with. What recipes do you like that include preserved lemons? Once the jar is open, do I keep them in the fridge and how long do they last? I’m thinking I’ll need a few recipes lined up to use them up.

Chopped apple diabetes friendly

Post image

Found some rotten spots on my apples so I had to cut out the bad spots and chopped up the good bits. Normally I’d just my an apple crisp but my husband was just diagnosed as prediabetic so I’m looking for recipes that wouldn’t add a ton of sugar. This is about 4-5 large apples which is a lot.

Ended up making muffins using Sally’s recipe for basic muffins but halved the sugar and folded in flax and oats to increase the fiber.

What can I make with beef, mushrooms, and cream that isn’t the usual stuff?

I've got some beef, mushrooms, carrots, cream, milk and parsley to use up but don't want to make the same old dishes. What would you do with them? I’m always game to try something new, even if that something is a meal I’ve never heard of before.

What to do with lots of basil (no pesto)

The 2026 crop of basil in my kitchen window herb box is slowly beginning to lose vibrancy, so it's almost time to harvest the leaves. Between the summer heat and rain, it really grew, and I have far more than I need. I'll give some away, dry some, but anyone have any non-pesto (not a fan) ideas? Thanks!

Help I'm tired of having the same things

I'm 23 and grew up in a home that didn't have the best home cooked meals. We always had the same things (spaghetti, sloppy Joe, burgers, ect).

Please help me come up with things to cook with ground beef that are easy but not basic. I have lots of spices and would love to try something with my crescent rolls. I love peppers of all kind so always keep that on hand. I'm also trying to keep on the healthy side since I'm trying to fit into a wedding dress currently lol. TIA

How do you decide what to cook when you have random ingredients at home?

I feel like the hardest part of cooking isn't actually cooking.

It's deciding what to make.

I often open my fridge, see a bunch of random ingredients, and somehow still feel like I have "nothing to cook" 😅

How do you guys usually decide what to make when you have random ingredients at home?

Do you:

  • search recipes one ingredient at a time?
  • just improvise?
  • use a meal planner?
  • ask someone?
  • have a "go-to" combination that always works?

I'm curious how other people deal with this because I feel like I waste way too much time just deciding what to cook.

Correcting Shepherd’s Pie

OK, this is not the typical question. I made Shepherd’s pie last night to eat tonight. I used lamb as is proper. (Made with beef it is cottage pie.) I tasted it, and don’t like it very much. I wish I had created a more robust gravy, instead of just stirring in flour as my recipe directed. I guess I could just buy a beef gravy pack and use that on top, but was excited to be making everything from scratch. Any ideas on how to up the umami?
