All Air I'm helping my GF get into War thunder Aviation. Which nation should she play?

So for a little background I am a U.S. Air Force aviator with some real world experience when it comes to teaching and flying. That being said, War thunder has a bit of a track record with (ill begotten accuracies) as well as it's fair share of inaccuracies. There's only so much real world techniques I can teach her before the hard lesson of players with thousands of hours come swooping in to get a kill. I started her off with the Japanese tech tree and like all of us, she very quickly chewed through the first couple of BRs. The reason for Japan? A6Ms. She can turn extremely well, energy trap and has executed some textbook maneuvers. However I'm very interested in hearing what you all have to say. I've pretty much fleshed out the American tech tree, but nothing really past that. (I'm very aware of russian bias)

Tech Issues The Problem of Warthunder

• Upvotes

After playing +5000 hours in that game, I can tell why there are so many people who only play to br 3.0 and then stop playing. Mostly because Warthunder is a game that punishes honesty and fairness. After playing hours in low br, the amount of players with lvl 100 is terrifying. Most new players have to struggle against veterans in their 3rd game or get uptiered from 2.0 to 3.7 where they have no chance. Then there is the gap between the eras. 6.7 to 8.0 as example. How is someone who got his fresh new 6.0 tank [as example a tiger or Jumbo] supposed to fight a IS 6 or American T34? I don't understand why there isn't any regulation or protection for new players. Most new players never properly learn how to fight since they get snipped at spawn at 2.0 from 2km away or have to fight against lvl 100 veterans at br 1.7

Idrc about the CAS part but the teammates are so bad it’s getting out of hand. On the bright side another 100k rp in 2 and half hours. (YES I KNOW HOW TO SCREENSHOT. Just didn’t feel like it)

RB Air Can it be made so the big bombers dont split in half when landing 90% of the time?

The tu95 is probably one of the most cancerous bombers to land since it has no drag, no airbrake and the gears take 5 days to open, every crashlanding attempt (even the ones on basically flat angles) have been my bomber splitting in half

All Ground Would you like to see an implementation of FCS quality effecting recoil control, stabilization quality, and aiming quality?

War Thunder is a game that evolves with time, with many features and mechanics often being added to the game every year. Something that I was pondering in the last few days would possibly be one of the most controversial additions possible for ground forces.

As of currently, all ground vehicles ingame behave as if they had a modern 21st century Fire Control System with perfect aiming ease and basically no recoil on autocannons. What I suggest is an implementation of a system that will make aiming much clunkier for older vehicles, with targeting being distinct for either moving the turret around and or the turret following a target. Firing autocannons rapidly would throw off your aim with you needing to readjust after bursts rather than simply hold mouse1, and stabilizers would be distinct in their quality from early cold war vehicles through late cold war vehicles and to modern vehicles. This will greatly help the game to feel a lot more like a tank game rather than CS:GO with vehicles, and will also nerf many vehicles of Soviet design considering their primitive WW2-grade FCSs or even a complete lack of one.

I know War Thunder is loved for how it makes vehicle combat both relatively realistic but also accessible, and I feel like the implementation of those mechanics would be pushing War Thunder a wee bit too far into sim territory, but I personally feel like the introduction of these mechanics would be beneficial to the game as lately it had been dominated by light vehicles with autocannons, and in general many Russian tanks get a massive advantage as they don't need to deal with not having a poor FCS and stabilizer while enjoying extra armor and other benefits.

What do you think?

RB Ground Played another session today. I was in a Jagdtiger. A Vietnam-era helicopter swooped in and plastered me with rockets. Is this reasonable? Absolutely the entire enemy team was in the air. Don't you think that the amount and impunity of aviation in this game is simply off the charts?

Suggestion When is France getting the Dutch PzH 2000NL in their tech tree?

I love playing Dutch vehicles but there aren’t any lower tier Dutch vehicles and I think this would be a good edition to the French tree.

Hello, do you know if it’s possible to change the color of the tracking indicators for a selected aircraft so that everything else remains green, while these specific ones appear in red? Alternatively, do you know how to enlarge them to make them more visible? Or there is a mod that allows you to replace the arrow with a larger indicator? In any case, thank you!

RB Ground How should I play Russian high tier tanks?

Feel free to hit me with the “skill issue” accusations because I’m well aware Russian high tier tanks are busted. I just can’t really figure out how to play them effectively.
Like I have a full top tier lineup of T-90s, T-80s, and later T-72 variants yet I still average only one or two kills a game. I find that the armor is their only real strength as their speed is pretty lackluster, they have fuck all gun depression, trying to out snipe NATO tanks at range feels like a lost cause, the reverse gear is just non existent, and I feel like brawling isn’t really viable either given how piss poor the reloads are.

I have over 8000 hours but most of that is playing ARB (which has plenty of its own problems trust me lmao). Idk, just looking for some tips I suppose.

AB Air Just came back to the game after I quit for years

What the actual freaking hell is going on? This game is absolute garbage now. I should state that I only play air arcade and maybe it is finally time to move on to air realistic. What did they do this game. Literally the ONLY thing better is the severe damage finally giving you a kill. Everything else is so much worse.

What is crazy that every single person I know quit this game long ago before it was even close to as bad as it is now. I actually never thought it was bad before, but now I mean wtf.

A lot of this is the bomber buff. I logged back on today thinking okay they are going to decrease the buff a little bit. They have to right? I mean the bombers are now completely ridiculous and now half the entire team is just bomber and our base is already getting bombed 5 min. into the game.

I used to play this game like a job. Then I left, because honestly I just could not take the terrible teammates who literally did nothing but try to 3rd party every single dogfight steal the kill and not help.

So not only is that still going on, but now you have flying tanks that are almost indestructible. I've already seen bombers literally just strafing the base at low altitude surviving not only multiple players shooting a them, but the base AA doesn't even put them down.

Come on Gaijin wtf are we doing here? It's beyond obvious they are just catering to new players and just old players that are still noobs. I can't imagine huge numbers of players not leaving if they don't fix this ridiculous mess. I mean this is ridiculous.
