New Partner sub r/WGU_Accelerators

Team,

One of the most common conflicts that the mods see on this sub is the frustration Accelerators and non-accelerators have with each other. While both kinds of students are moving towards their degrees, they each have very different approaches and goals.

To help with this, I have created a subreddit that is focused on accelerators. This is simply the first step, and that sub currently has very little structure. But while all of that is coming, I see no reason to not allow users to explore the space and kick the virtual tires.

One last note, acceleration is NOT the same as cheating. The new sub will focus on legitimate ways to accelerate and will not tolerate cheaters or those who cater to cheaters. I think most of the rules on this sub will migrate to the new sub with the possible exception of #6, but I have an idea as to how #6 could be made more helpful to new students.

Finally, since we don't have any traffic on the sub yet, I will ask here for help with moderation duties on the new sub. If you think you want to help BUILD something, let me know. If your focus is on rules, removals, and bans, you may want to wait until the sub has been built. I need collaborators, not enforcers.

If postponed my start date for one reason or another. How ever now I feel I have. Solid plan. Ill start December 1st and plan to be finished June 2028 to have the best chances of getting accepted for student teaching 2028. Has anyone been able to start as a hired on school teacher in pre-k prior to having all this done ?

Dropout to B.S. Business Management graduate!

I’m 34 and tried to do my bachelor’s twice, but I dropped out both times because of finances. Thankfully, that never hurt my career. I have 11 years of operations experience in aviation and logistics, but something was always missing, and I wanted that degree.

I found out about WGU on Reddit in February 2026. After some quick research, I realized Sophia was the way to start. I had 9 courses from previous university studies, but since they were all general ed, I didn’t want to pay for a third-party course-by-course evaluation. I only had my high school transcript evaluated, and I went with Sophia for the rest to save time and money. In total, I completed 36 courses for my Bachelor of Science in Business Management, 7 of them through Sophia.

A note for Canadians: I’m Canadian and live in Ontario, and WGU accepted my enrollment application without a hassle. I received my Owl’s Nest rewards promptly, and the whole process was no different from a U.S. citizen’s. I did read that Newfoundland and Labrador is excluded, but I had no issues in Ontario. Canadians are also restricted to non-clinical degrees. WGU is listed and approved by the Canada Revenue Agency, so you can claim your tuition for the tax credit just as you would at a Canadian university. I used Ucredo for my high school transcript evaluation and recommend it. It’s on WGU’s approved list and accepts digital copies, which saves you the mail time.

I was on parental leave, which in Canada is 35 weeks and job-protected. Mine started in December, 2025. In March, I gave my employer notice that I wouldn’t be coming back because the job was too stressful. I decided to use that time to study and look for a new job, and I ended my leave early when I found one in June.

My timeline:

•       February: I found out about WGU and started researching.

•       March: I completed 20% of the degree on Sophia in one month (7 courses). I was able to finish Project Management before the deadline, because as of April 1st WGU restricts Sophia credit transfers to general education and lower-division courses. When Sophia emailed me about the WGU update, I transferred the 7 courses and committed to a May 1st start date.

•       May: 8 courses.

•       June: I found a good job and ended my parental leave early, so I only managed 1 course that month.

•       July: 5 courses.

•       August: 6 courses.

•       September: 7 courses.

•       October: C721 and QGT1 (Capstone). I officially graduated on October 15th, 2026, finishing the degree in one term with 16 days to spare.

I earned 2 Excellence Awards (D268 and C717) and had to revise 3 PA's across the whole degree.

From June on, I did this with an infant and a toddler at home, an extremely supportive wife, and a 40-50 hour work week. The courses can be done quickly, but my experience helped a lot. It’s a Business Management degree, and I already knew 60-70% of what I studied, which is why I was able to accelerate. But if you think this is a walk in the park, you’re mistaken. You’ll still do the same work you would at any other university. The difference is that if you want to move fast, WGU lets you. That’s why I love WGU.

My mentor was nothing short of AWESOME! We spoke on the phone once, and after I started my new job we kept in touch by email. She kept me going and motivated when I was burnt out. You’d think they would want you to take longer so they profit more, but they actually encourage you to keep going. When my mentor was away, Tier 1 Support was prompt and responsive when I emailed them. I also opened an IT ticket, and they handled it great too.

Reddit was my biggest help. Just Google the course code plus ā€œReddit.ā€ I guarantee you’ll find a hero who posted an exact map with all the details on how to pass that course. The best advice I read there for anyone who wants to accelerate: if you think you’re 80% ready, take the OA.

D080: Easier than Reddit makes it seem. I actually loved it, and it gave me a new perspective on the world economy and politics. Of all the courses, it’s the one I learned the most from. It took me 5 days, and the OA took 40 minutes.

D099: From what I’ve read, this course scares a lot of people, but I found it even easier than D080. It’s a knowledge checkpoint for the whole degree. It covers everything, and most of the questions are the same ones you saw in the courses earlier in the degree plan.

D388: Reddit made this one sound easier than it was for me. The OA is administered in Excel, and I absolutely hated this course. It caused me mental pain. It was also the longest OA at 2 hours. I use Excel daily, but never at that level, so maybe it’s just me.

C483: This was the closest I came to failing. I was cocky after what I’d read on Reddit, and I barely passed. It scared the hell out of me and gave me a reality check. Maybe that’s why I didn’t fail any OA.

The rest of my OAs only took me 25-30 minutes each.

Proctoring: The experience was OK overall. My camera couldn’t scan my ID (too blurry), so each time I had to take a picture with my phone and show it. I also had a technical issue after the exam login once and had to wait 40 minutes. There were no weird requests about camera positioning and no comments about minor movement.

WGU is an AMAZING university, and my whole experience was great. Honestly, I can’t think of anything bad to say about it. It will forever be in my heart because it gave me the thing I wanted most. Third time’s the charm, I guess, lol.

The next commencement is at the beginning of November, so I won’t be able to make it to that one. I’m waiting for the 2027 dates to be released, hopefully this month, to decide which one to go to. I’m definitely walking, baby!

I haven’t received my certificate yet, but I couldn’t let this moment pass without thanking this community. The people here, and the strangers who took the time to write up their experiences, made this possible for me. I’m truly grateful.

To anyone considering WGU: DO IT!

Help! Record a video delivering the presentation using Panopto

I'm doing my E011 second task, and the instructions say to "Record a video of yourself delivering the presentation using Panopto in which you appear on camera verbally presenting each slide using the speaker notes to guide your discussion of the main points.

Ā Note: The audiovisual recording should feature you visibly presenting the material (i.e., not in voiceover or embedded video) and should simultaneously capture both you and your multimedia presentation."

This is slightly confusing to me. I can't use embedded video, so am I supposed to set up a camera that records my screen and me in front of it? Or is it just indicating I shouldn't record a video separately and embed it? I wish they would provide examples because the wording is not terribly clear. And I'm supposed to use speaker notes, though I'm not sure whether they want to see them or just verify them with the presentation. I feel like I'm missing something here...

Edit: Thanks for the responses. I think I've got what I need now.

Thinking about transferring, what are your opinions?

I’m thinking about transferring to WGU. I currently have my associates degree in accounting I was working on my bachelors but I’m struggling with the school I’m at. I’m not struggling with the coursework, the coursework is easy. But it is hard to manage my work, school, and life balance with the structure of a normal college. I don’t think it’s about how many assignments I have to do, I think it’s having them due on certain days. For example on Thursdays and Sundays I have assignments due every week, but I work a m-f 9-5 job and my coursework each week doesn’t unlock until Mondays so I have to try and squeeze in my assignments that are due on Thursdays after work during the week but I can’t do them early the weekend before because I don’t have access to them.

Some of my credits will transfer but not all which is fine. I just wanted to see what people’s opinions were about the accounting program. How hard or easy would it be to do 12 credits a term working a 9-5 job? What is financial aid like for WGU? My parents won’t fill out my fafsa, at my current school my parent was able to sign a form saying they refused to fill out the fafsa so I would qualify for loans and scholarships, does WGU have anything similar? What’s the likelihood of getting a scholarship at WGU so I don’t have to take out as much in loans or drain all of my savings?

WGU Communications vs. Business Management

• Upvotes

I’m currently enrolled in WGU’s Communications program and I’m only six classes away from graduating. However, I’ve been considering switching to Business Management, which would leave me with approximately 14 additional courses.

I’ve already ventured into entrepreneurship, and my long term goal is to continue building and growing my own business. However, I also want a degree that provides solid career opportunities and financial stability if I ever need to fall back on traditional employment.

For those who have completed or are currently enrolled in either program, I’d love to hear about your experience. I’m especially interested in learning more about the Business Management program. Is the coursework primarily focused on corporate environments and managing employees, or does it also provide knowledge that could be useful for someone building and running their own business?

I’d also love to hear about career opportunities after graduation and whether you feel your degree has been beneficial.

I’ve been working hard to finish my current degree, so taking on additional courses is a big decision. I’m trying to determine whether switching would be worthwhile.

I’d appreciate any honest experiences or advice!

D361 - Q1 Question

Hello all,

I'm in the process of completing this simulation. I have completed Q1, but it told me that I can't start on Q2 until I receive results? Where would I find those? How long do I have to wait on that? I've seen some people say I can start on Q2 immediately after Q1 and then others say no, so I'm feeling confused on what to do.

Prospective BSCS student: Grad school options after WGU? (US Universities + UK/Europe acceptance)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently considering enrolling in the BS in Computer Science program at WGU. My long-term goal is to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science right after graduation.

Before making my final decision and enrolling, I want to clarify a few things regarding grad school admissions and international degree recognition:

  1. US Master’s Programs: Which universities have you or people you know successfully gotten into after completing the BSCS at WGU? (I’m aware Georgia Tech's OMSCS is a common path, but I'm curious about other programs like UT Austin, UIUC, or state universities.)

  2. Europe / UK Acceptance: Is a WGU degree well-

recognized abroad, specifically in the UK or EU countries like Spain? Has anyone successfully gotten accepted into a European master’s program, or did you encounter issues with bureaucracy, the competency-based model, or ECTS equivalency?

  1. Pass/Fail (3.0 GPA) Impact: Did the fixed 3.0 GPA (Pass/Fail) transcript limit your choices or cause hurdles during grad school admissions, especially for competitive or traditional on-campus programs?

  2. WGU vs. Traditional University: Given my goal of earning an MS in CS (and possibly working or studying abroad in the future), is WGU a solid and safe choice, or would attending a traditional brick-and-mortar university be a better route?

I’d really appreciate any insights, personal experiences, or advice from current students and alumni. Thanks in advance!

Switching

Has anyone switched majors and not finished the class from the previous term?
I have done 4 classes this term but I have realized that I don’t want to do my current major anymore and decided to switch to HIM. I have been on this current 5th class since August and I hate it and don’t understand anything if tried all the things tutor cohort professors meeeting yada yada. Will I be able to switch without finishing? My mentor just said it’s strongly advised but that’s about it. I know about SAP and such but how much does it matter if it’s just one class?

Passed Network+, made some materials to use

I recently finished my MsCs and decided to round it out with some certificates. So I started with the Network+ I see a lot of undergrads with WGU taking.

I created a github repo with some materials I made with Anthropic's Claude to help me study for the CompTIA Network+ certification.

https://github.com/Akraetik/netplus-ai-study-kit

I passed in 19 days with little prior networking knowledge. But along the way I was trying things to see what worked. And I basically used AI as an assistant to help me with materials that I'd actually use, optimized for my odd schedule that was a lot of time driving on the road and little breaks throughout the day of 5-20 minutes. I used the same "method" with the next certificate--CompTIA Security+-- and passed in 6 days.

I made flashcards based on specific material. Some of the flashcards aren't in the repo as they were pulled from quizzes I paid for through Udemy. To protect IP you'll have to pay for them yourselves then prompt your Anki flashcards into existence. How is in the repo.

Then I made Audio files to listen to while driving. I had a lot of wheel time and not as much desk time as I'd like.

I kind of explained it in a youtube companion video but I hate how I sound so this goes at the bottom.

Happy learning!

Business Excited but Terrified

I finally started the process of enrolling at WGU today and I have so many mixed feelings 😭

I did my FAFSA, started my application, and now they’re requesting my transcripts from the school where I got my AAS. It’s starting to feel real and honestly I’m excited but also really anxious.

I’m 27 and already working full time, and I’ve also been trying to stay consistent with my fitness journey and bettering myself overall. I’m proud of the progress I’ve been making, but now I’m thinking about adding school into the mix and wondering how I’m going to balance everything.

I really want to do this for myself and my future, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t absolutely scared to death lol. I worry about being able to manage work, school, the gym, my multiple pets, and still having time for myself. I also wonder if I’ll be able to stay motivated and keep up with everything once I actually start.

At the same time, I’m excited because I feel like I’m finally taking steps toward something I’ve been thinking about doing. I’m hoping to pursue Healthcare Administration, and the thought of eventually having my bachelor’s degree makes me happy, even though the process feels a little overwhelming right now.

I guess I’m just trying to remind myself that I can be scared and still do it. I don’t have to have everything figured out before I start.

For those of you who work full time while going to WGU, how has it been for you? Especially if you’re also trying to balance working out, personal goals, and just life in general lol šŸ˜…

I’d love to hear how you all manage it because right now I’m excited, nervous, scared, and just a little bit of everything all at once ā¤ļø

Finally passed C957! - Tips

Post image
9 Upvotes

A pass is a pass! But seriously, I think I forgot a step in some of the rate of change questions that I got wrong.

The only questions that I didn’t know the answer to, I felt, was the horizontal and vertical asymptote questions.

Speaking of, study that section of the course material. It’s literally the only thing I opened in the course material. I looked at it all of 10 minutes because I ran out of time studying and just wanted to get the exam out of the way. (I rescheduled 3x).

I believe it’s near the graphical depiction section.

TLDR: use Odin’s recorded cohort videos inside of WGU connect for this course, study asymptotes, and you will pass this course.
