Weekly What are you reading? - Oct 14

Welcome to the weekly "What are you reading?" thread!

This is intended to be a general chat thread on visual novels with a focus on the visual novels you've been reading recently. A new thread is posted every Thursday at 4:00 AM JST (or Wednesday if you don't live in Japan for some reason).

Good WAYR entries include your analysis, predictions, thoughts, and feelings about what you're reading. The goal should be to stimulate discussion with others who have read that VN in the past, or to provide useful information to those reading in the future! Avoid long-winded summaries of the plot, and also avoid simply mentioning which VNs you are reading with no points for discussion. The best entries are both brief and brilliant.

Use spoiler tags liberally!

Always use spoiler tags in threads that are not about one specific visual novel. Like this one!

  • They can be posted using the following markdown: >!hidden spoilery text!< , which shows up as hidden spoilery text. Make sure there are no spaces at the beginning and end of the spoiler tag because this will break it for users on http://old.reddit.com/. In other words do this: properly hidden spoiler, but not this: broken spoiler tag

Remember to link to the VNDB page of the visual novel you're discussing so the indexing bot for the What Are You Reading Archive can pick up your post.

Discussion I just played Koikari and I loved it.

SPOILERS BELOW:

I didn't think I'd love it so much, I haven't played many VNs, I played Amanatsu like over an year ago and I enjoyed that too, but I only did one route (Kazuha) and it was great, the presentation was amazing and I enjoyed that route a lot. I liked that it was animated with facial animations and the VAs were great, I also played the ToHeart remake and it was cute and sweet but I only really did one route in that one too (Akari), it was a sweet one and since it was 3D and fully animated, I just gravitated towards it as one of my first VNs and it was a solid 6.5-7/10 pure love story, which was fine but I didn't care enough to do other routes. I also tried those Pixelfade VNs (Crystalline, Ethereal enigma and Astral Ascension) but didn't like either one of those and dropped them, they seemed too mid to me and the only reason I wanted to try them out was because they were animated.

I played Koikari thinking I'd just do one heroine route and end it and was kinda iffy on it too since unlike my previous ones, it wasn't really animated or lip synced, but somehow the characters in this one were waaaay more expressive than the other animated ones I tried (Not Amanatsu tho, that VNs characters were well animated and expressive at the same time, that one was high quality asf) but this was pretty high quality too.

But presentation aside, I loved the characters in this VN so much. I went in thinking of romancing only one (Emi) but then I met others and they were all so good. I decided to almost do Sumi first before even Emi, because she was so good, it got me confused. Went with Emi first anyways and finished her route. It was a nice ending. Then I did Sumi the next day. Finished that and now I'm about halfway through Tsubaki's route. It's amazing how every girl in this VN is so lovable.

What I also like about this is that after you pick a girl, the other girls don't stop existing and just move on like they don't care anymore, you pick emi and Sumi's antics are hilarious, you pick Sumi and Emi shows up over and over and that shit's hilarious. It's also really fun how the protag treats each girl differently, the banter with Emi, how he reacts around sumi

He seems the most down bad from the start for Tsubaki though, as I'm doing her route I noticed that he had to warm up to Emi, and with Sumi he was a bit softer than emi but she was still trying to woo the MC and make him fall more for her, but with Tsubaki bro is already down bad and this time he's equally simping for her as Tsubaki is too lol, It's fun how it's a different dynamic with everyone and it keeps it fresh

The comedy and timing are top notch too, I love the humour in this, and the cute moments are cute too. It's honestly too good. I didn't think I'd be that immersed in a VN as I was in this one.

What are more suggestions for VNs like this? I do plan on checking out more of ASA project VNs too, but feel free to recommend some outside those as well. Which ASA project is the next best to this? Or even better in your opinion?

Like I said before, one of the things I liked about this was the fact that the girls didn't just disappear forever after you pick another's route and the comedy, cute jealousy antics and love triangle shenanigans were funny.

Discussion It's rough to read a VN when the heroines are based on real people and you already know what happened to them IRL [Bakumatsu Jinchuu Houkoku Resshiden Miburo] Spoiler

Post image

I'm at reading Bakumatsu Jinchuu Houkoku Resshiden Miburo, currently just finished Okita Souji's route. It was brutal.

I was spoiled by the happy ending in Sengoku † Koihime, so I kind of expected a fun harem ride when I started Miburo. But the closer I got to the end, the more desperate the story became, with people dropping dead left and right (from illness, KIA, forced seppuku, infighting, and executions), including the heroines. Now I just want them to return to the happy Mibu Roushigumi days...

Image The Twelve Divine and Demonic Artifacts (十二神魔器), China's infamous Japanese Visual Novel list NSFW

Post image
248 Upvotes

"Twelve are the Divine, who set themselves above every law of conscience; twelve are the Demonic, who cast off the very mantle of their kind. Wondrous and abysmal is the anomaly they hold."

The Twelve Divine Artifacts (十二神器)

The Twelve Divine Artifacts is a term referring to a collection of 12 Japanese adult visual novels that gained notoriety within the Chinese galgame (visual novel) community between 2003 and 2013.

Originating on a galgame forum on Baidu, the list initially began with the Three Divine Artifacts—specifically 3days, Okinawa Slave Island, and Imouto Choukyou Nikki (though some suggest Saya no Uta occupies the spot held by Imouto Choukyou Nikki).

Later, certain eccentric forum members expanded the list from three to twelve, dubbing them the "Twelve Divine Artifacts." They further extrapolated a set of "Twelve Demonic Artifacts," bringing the total to "Twenty-Four Artifacts."

These twelve games shared many common traits such as intense, graphic, and violent content that can be psychologically damaging. They are often viewed as perverse, depraved, transcending conventional morality and ethics, which ultimately left newcomers who dared to tread past horrified, nauseated, or even to the point of having their own personal values and individuality completely warped.

Consequently, the term "Divine Artifacts" is not used because these games are "masterpieces" in any traditional sense, rather, it serves as "bait" to lure in innocent lambs to an abyss of agony and despair, much like the ill-fated veterans.

Therefore, if you find yourself curious about these "Twelve Divine Artifacts," please ensure you are mentally prepared.

  • Okinawa Slave Island
  • Imouto Choukyou Nikki ~Konna Tsundere ga Ore no Imouto na Wakenai!~
  • Josou Sanmyaku
  • Subarashiki Hibi ~Furenzoku Sonzai~
  • 3days ~Michiteyuku Toki no Kanata de~
  • TV no Kieta Hi
  • Saya no Uta
  • Kimi to Kanojo to Kanojo no Koi
  • Dare ga Koroshita Komadori o
  • Biniku no Kaori ~Netori Netorare Yari Yarare~
  • Dark Blue
  • euphoria

The Twelve Demonic Artifacts (十二魔器)

True to its name, the Twelve Demonic Artifacts is a step-up in terms of intensity, bordering on absolute madness and lunacy. Its content is in fact extremely disturbing, raging from an entire violent gore fest to just pure psychological distress. There’re cgs that could possibly make you vomit or cause excessive discomfort. Rumors suggest that the Divine Artifacts actually seemed mild in comparison. Viewer discretion is strictly advised. Seriously though, it is recommend that you do not read these visual novels and just be satisfied with knowing about their existence and reading the summaries.

Fun fact, this list was also made to bait newcomers or people looking for hidden gems. Nevertheless, because these game titles were so explicit, no one was falling for it.

  • EXTRAVAGANZA ~Mushi Mederu Shoujo~
  • Konchuu Kansatsu
  • Mugen Renkan ~Chijoku ni Mamireshi Fushiki no Rinbu~
  • Shokusai no Miyako
  • Nyotai Kyouran ~Kore ga Watashi no Nozonda Body~
  • Dustmania Grotesque ~Kaitai Sounyuu Shinsho~

  • Nijuue
  • 3M -Marionettes manipulate the marionette-
  • Kyojin-tachi
  • Creature to Koi Shiyo! -Kokonoe Kokoro-

VN Request Is there a vn with a genuinely good enemies to lovers thing?

Closest I've seen is Kinkoi, but even that felt a bit half-assed. I want something that goes beyond just initially being a bit prickly or aloof.

Something where both parties actually just loathe each other till somehow it's developed in the opposite direction?

Question Play VN on an Android device.

• Upvotes

Hello everyone.

Do some of you play your VN on an Android device like the Retroid Pocket/AYN Odin ?

I have a Retroid Pocket Nova. I can play my Steam/GoG VN with Game Native but I want to play my JAST VN on it. I want to try Hanachirasu on it, since it's a 4:3 game and the Nova is also 4:3.

I know there is a thing called DroidDeck. It's basically an app that let you launch SteamOS on Android. And if I'm on SteamOS, I can use Wine/Lutris/Heroic to install and play my JAST VN right ?

Did someone here try that ?

Review Amuse Craft Erotica's Youkashi no Haitokuai features truly great artwork, and the premise is typical for the genre, but following the prologue, the story development and ending fall completely flat. It takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on your play speed.

Description

“The love you’ve nurtured” is both the sweetest and the most bitter—.

This title is a pure love × cuckold ADV in which you personally train an innocent young girl to become a sex worker and revel in the transgression that awaits her.

As her older mentor, you stay by the side of Sarara Chikamochi, a young lady who doesn’t know her way around, and teach her the basics of sex. This is the “Training Arc,” where you nurture your bond with her.

However, once her training period ends, she will begin working as a “product” designed to please clients.

She’ll offer her body to other men, losing herself to lust and exchanging words of passion… The “Transgression Arc” follows her as you watch her sensual performances with mixed feelings of fascination and unease.

Her innocent nature remains intact even as she awakens to sexual pleasure. We present an intense psychological portrayal and a sense of excitement, where love, possessiveness, guilt, and a sense of transgression are intricately intertwined.

Discussion Do you guys do best girls route first or save her for last?

Pretty much the title. I've been pondering this lately. I've been playing Majikoi and Amagami (not quite a visual novel ik) lately and have been enjoying them. I've realized now that by starting with my favorite heroines (Momoyo and Nanasaki respectively) I've positioned myself so that the the part of the game I'm the most interested with is over already, and if I continue with this trajectory I'll be less and less interested as I go along (even if I don't dislike any of the heroines)

what do you all think of this? what do you consider to be the optimal way to go about this?

(Follow up: do you feel it necessary to do every characters route or only the ones that really grab you? Does it depend on if it's a game heavy on plot outside of the romance opposed to mostly just being about getting a partner?)

VN Request Requesting visual novels about a guy who falls in love with a harem of demi humans

So sorry if this was done here before recently on this particular forum because I just have a strong fascination with anime about a premise where the main character is a normal dude who ends up being able to shag hot girls who are based on monsters such as Succubus, Angels, or Lamias as basically I was wondering what visual novels had similar premises.

Like what I mean is if there are any visual novels out there with an English translation available where the main character can choose which demi human being to fall in love with since I always wanted a visual novel where I can choose which demi human creature my character will be in love with.

Lastly, systems that I want to read such a story on are Vita, 3DS, PS3, and PC as again I just want a spicy but fun visual novel about a guy forming his own harem of again demi humans that look humanoid, but have monster traits in them.

Discussion Didn't understand the meaning of Subahibi Ending Spoiler

Spoilers for all of Wonderful Everyday. (Obviously).

I loved the characters and enjoyed the story. I thought it seemed nice that Tomosane and his sister could live together happily. However, just what about Takuji? So the existence known as Takuji is supposed to be the enemy because he believed in god? Or is it the idea of the end of the world? The idea is that the world(Or, a life) can't end, or can it?

I can understand and enjoy the story, but I don't get what the messaging is supposed to be. Someone please help me understand.

Self-promotion Released my demo for Steam Next Fest – 'Ace & Aro: Heart-to-Heart'

Hi all,

I'm the developer behind One Night Stand and VIDEOVERSE. A demo of my third game – Ace & Aro: Heart-to-Heart – has just released on Steam and itch.io! It is a short visual novel where you spend an evening at an Ace and Aro meetup group. It's set in an underground barcade where you can also play mini-games if you want to.

In the demo...

  • Get to know Maya 💬
  • Explore the snazzy barcade 🕹️
  • Personalise your experience with how you identify 👤
  • Enjoy the chill, original soundtrack 🎵
  • Dance to one of the songs in Boogie Beat Revolution 🕺
  • Carry over your progress into the full game! 💾

The demo is also taking part in Games That Ace It – A weeklong celebration during Ace Week (Oct 25 - Nov 1) of games with asexual themes and / or made by ace devs. Quite a few of the games taking part are visual novels, so I hope you'll check it out!

FYI No AI was used in the development of this visual novel and it is completely independent and self-funded. Please check out the demo and wishlist / follow to stay up-to-date.

Thank you for your time! 🙂
