Question Any novel viruses on epidemiologists' radar right now? How worried should we actually be?

Hey guys!

I’ve been reading a bit about public health lately and started wondering about emerging infectious diseases. It feels like every time you open the news there’s some headline about bird flu, a weird vector-borne virus, or some random spillover event somewhere.

For those of you who follow this stuff or work in the field—what’s actually on the radar of places like WHO or CDC right now? I know things like H5N1 or Oropouche keep popping up in headlines, but I’m never quite sure how much of it is just media fearmongering vs genuine concern from scientists.

Are epidemiologists actually worried about something specific brewing, or is this mostly just routine surveillance doing its job? Would love to hear from anyone working in virology or public health on what you're keeping an eye on lately.

Thanks!
