Looking for a Hmong community member to interview for a class project

Hi! I’m a student working on a course project about Hmong American experiences. I’m hoping to interview a Hmong community member about a topic we agree on, such as family, culture, immigration, education, or community life.

The interview would take about 15 minutes and take place by phone / by video call. I’ll treat your experiences respectfully, and you can skip any question or stop at any time. I won’t record unless you give permission.

If you’re interested, please comment or message me. I’m happy to share more about the project before you decide. Thank you!

Language Help Fiancée Engagement Ring Quote

Hi all. My partner is Vietnamese and I'm currently designing her engagement ring. The first thing I learned about her was how much she loves her family. And seeing the love her parents share with each other made it easy to understand why. Their love for each other is something I've always admired, and I think there's something really special about the love they've built and the family they've raised together.

On the inside of the band, I want to incorporate a message from them written in their own handwriting. Something like:

Take our love and make it your own

The plan is to have her mom write one half of the message, and her dad to write the other half so it can be engraved in their handwriting. Here's what I got from AI:

Mang theo tình yêu của ba mẹ viết nên câu chuyện của riêng con

Mom will write: “Mang theo tình yêu của ba mẹ”

Dad will write: “viết nên câu chuyện của riêng con”

The problem is that I'm Filipino and don't speak Vietnamese, so I have no idea whether this sounds natural to a native speaker, whether there are any unintended nuances, or whether there's a more poetic way to express the sentiment. I can make out ba, mẹ, and con, but that's the extent of my Vietnamese!

Would any native Vietnamese speakers be willing to help me check the phrasing or suggest a more natural, poetic alternative? I'd really appreciate it. I want to get this right because the message will be engraved on a ring she'll hopefully wear for the rest of her life ❤️

Research Study Asking AI about etymology: like flipping a coin :-(

It seems when asking AI about etymology one should try two out of three, for a majority opinion/hallucination.

AI Overview

In Vietnamese linguistics and historical phonology, the etymology of the verb "xách" (meaning to carry something by a handle or hanging from the hand) is categorized as a Sino-Vietnamese colloquial borrowing (từ chữ Hán biến âm).

2nd attempt with the same question:

AI Overview

The Vietnamese verb "xách" (meaning to carry an object hanging downwards from the hand or by a handle) is an indigenous, native Vietic word. Unlike many Vietnamese words associated with specific handling actions, it is not a direct Sino-Vietnamese loanword.

I didn't try it a third time.
