After 40 years, I can honestly say that I have no idea. All I know is what it’s like to be judged. I know what it’s like to never feel good enough for anyone. I know what it’s like to be left on read….. I know what it’s like to feel like I have prove to someone I am worth it, and to fail in that endeavour. I know what it’s like to feel that nothing I do, say, or feel means a single thing to anyone but myself. I know what it’s like to know I’ll never have a meaningful connection someone because life just doesn’t work that way.

What matters in life…. is everything that shouldn’t, and it’s very hard to relate to someone when they are genuinely un-curious about who you are.

But I’ll continue to dream, I’ll continue to wish. I’ll continue to hope there is someone else out there who wants nothing else but to love and be loved, because what else is there to do, but dream, so I’ll dream and dream and dream until one day, I’m out of time.

As a guy, I am genuinely wondering why there is a big gender disparity in dating apps and in this sub. In dating apps, I notice and hear other men mentioning them having to put in way more effort than the women do in general. Women also tend to get more likes, even with an incomplete profile.
In this sub, majority of the posts are M4F with very few comments, usually from other guys. The few F4M are flooded with messages. Same applies for [r/vancouver4friends](r/vancouver4friends) as well. It sorta feels like men are too desperate. If the ratio of male to female are the same, why is there such differences in the dating propositions and effort?

I posted a week ago but realized that my post didn't contain a lot of clarifying information about who I am or what I'm looking for.

I am a 34 year old male (35 in two months) and have lived in Vancouver or the Vancouver area my entire life. Currently I reside in the surrey central area and have been there for the past 10 years in an apartment I own. I have what would be best described as an introverted personality, but over the past 6-7 years I've got out of my own head somewhat and now sometimes *can* lean more on the ambivert side.

I enjoy hiking, board games, visiting breweries/restaurants, travelling (when I have the time off), road trips (just got back from the Okanagan), and the occasional video game - I'm currently playing through Silksong. On the work/education side, I've been in and out of college for the past few years but am currently going for an accounting degree part time. I am relatively easy-going and am big on having a sense of humor. For better or worse, I find one of my coping strategies with life is to find humor in a bad situation. I am 6'4' and moderately overweight. I am currently working to bring down the weight and have shed some already, but I expect I won't be down to a healthier BMI until later in 2027.
