Buy / Sell UM Tix Fall '26

Please use this thread if you have event tickets (Michigan athletics, concerts, etc.) to sell or are looking to buy. Individual posts outside the thread will be removed. We don't claim that this is better than MaizeTix, SeatGeek, etc. Just serving a demand. Go Blue!

****We've received reports in the past of scammers in these threads. Please be careful and do your due diligence. Consider asking seller for their UMich email, then write them asking for a Reply, to verify it's not a fake address.

Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.

Listings:

  • Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.

  • UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.

  • Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.

  • Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow

  • Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.

  • Apartments.com - Apartments.com

  • ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.

  • Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.

  • Ann Arbor Observer Rentlink Housing Search

Resources:

By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services

Social media/community resources:

Past resources:

Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.

Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.

They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.

The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others

If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

Social Looking to meet some new people at U-M and make holiday plans

I'm 22M and recently moved to the U.S. for school. Lately I've realized I spend a lot of time doing things alone — studying at the Duderstadt, going to the gym, eating, taking walks, and then coming home without really having anyone to talk to.

I'd really like to meet some new people around U-M and Ann Arbor. I'm especially interested in learning more about American culture, improving my English, and meeting people from different countries and backgrounds. I think it'd be fun to talk about cultural differences, daily life, habits, values, and just random things.

I've always wanted to experience holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas in the U.S., but I've never really celebrated them here before. The idea of walking around in winter, seeing the lights, going to holiday events, and sharing that atmosphere with friends sounds really nice to me.

I'll be staying here for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and winter break, and I don't really have plans yet. I'd love to slowly make some friends I can spend time with during the holidays too.

I'm happy to chat online first, and if we get along, maybe study together, grab food, go for a walk, or check out something around Ann Arbor sometime. Feel free to DM me!

Degree Freshman BBA wanting to dual degree CS/PPE

I am currently a freshman studying business who has come with 70 college credits, maxing out the 30-credit limit for Ross' BBA program. All of my gen-eds are done except for fourth-year foreign language (I'd take SPANISH 230 next semester).

I really want to do a second degree, but I can't decide on PPE or LSA CS. I am passionate about both philosophy & economics, as well as computer science. My main concern is if I'd have a difficult time getting through with one or the other—which degree is more difficult to pursue. I have prior experience with front-end and some lower-level languages, which makes me think CS would be a \tad* easier* when it came to fundamentals.

I basically wanted to know if anyone has, or had, any experience with this path? Any advice is appreciated.

Academics - Other Topics Is it common to have cal 3 and linear algebra in other institutions?

As the title said, just wondering this. Also I will apply to graduate program so I am afraid that have those “important” courses in other universities rather than UMich sounds weird for applying master program. Thank you for any advice!

Miscellaneous Any student podcasters out there?

I’m a university of Michigan alumni with an interesting story I’ve been looking to share, and would love to give a student podcaster an opportunity to share it.

I don’t wanna self promote, so please let me know if you have a podcast, what the topic is, and we can see if my story would be a good fit!

Back when I was a student, I was an officer for the pc
Gamers club, and we would rent a podcast studio at the Dude to record a podcast reviewing Humble Bundles, back when they just had one bundle every two weeks or so.

I can guarantee significant coverage for my story.

Prospective Student Housing/dorms and overall campus experience?

Now that I’m to the point of further narrowing down my college search, I need to find out all the info I can about the colleges I applied to (as well as visit what I can). So to start, I’m curious to hear what the dorm and housing situation is like, and how campus life is. Basically everything about the college in general besides just the academic portion. I want a campus I could actually enjoy living on.

Could include details like how housing is organized, how the dorms are set up, and the different dorm types and options, and how to get into the better dorms. Etc. Maybe other details like food, class-to-class commuting, campus density (how crowded it feels)… whatever you have to say about your campus experience, and what you think an incoming student should know.

Thanks in advance

Academics - Other Topics had a hard time being an EECS student

I used to struggle with managing my time during my first few years of studying here. Also, because of that, I ended up relying on AI way too much.

I tried to change myself this semester, though, but I still can't help thinking about how badly I did back then and how I wasn't doing so well in my classes.

Also, this semester, I was taking three EECS classes but needed to drop one since I couldn't handle the workload well. While I was taking all three classes, I usually just watched the lecture recordings and barely attended the in-person lectures (there was only one class that I was really committed to attending). I also didn't attend the required labs for one of my classes that often.

But I think I really want to change after this fall break, though. Please give me some advice on how I can motivate myself for the rest of this semester.

To anyone who has faced this issue before, what did you guys do to get yourselves back on track?

Miscellaneous Question for Michigan Marching Band (MMB)

Okay so this question is gonna sound crazy, but hear me out….

Has the MMB ever had a PhD student in the band? I have questions and would like advice. All advice from current or former members are welcomed, just pls be kind. ❤️

I’m currently a PhD student and also obtained my two masters degrees at UM. I got my bachelors degree at Eastern, was in the EMU marching band, and got my minor in music. I play the saxophone and clarinet. I miss playing, marching, having fun, and making friends. If you know band culture, you know it’s magical!

Would it be weird / unfeasible / not likely to get in if I auditioned for the MMB? If you’ve ever been in a Phd program while marching in the band, could you kindly direct message me so I can hear about your experience? I’d really appreciate anyone’s response regarding time commitment, audition process, etc given I’m far from a freshman in undergrad.

Thank you kindly! ☺️

Prospective Student Is it worth transferring to U of M?

Hey guys! I’ve been wanting to transfer out of UND to U of M for quite a while. For context I grew up my whole life in Michigan and went to IA Okma for a bit but then had to move to Maryland cause my parents got jobs in Maryland and did the rest of high school there. I really miss home and just being here at UMD doesn’t give the same feel or opportunity that U of M has to offer career wise aside from the feeling of home. A big thing is that for me in term of college preferences I want the college campus to feel like home. Do you guys have any advice?
