Hi all, I’m moving to SLC for the winter to teach snowboarding. I’m looking to get a mouth guard to make sure I don’t bite my tongue + reduce concussions.
Looking for recs for people experience with dentists in the area that works with riders
I think I’d have to pay out of pocket
Thanks

This is the same company that created 19 million gallons of rain over Homer, AK, in just 3 hours with two drones. Now, it wants to partner with every ski resort in Utah.
If drones can help solve the water crisis in the West, I'm ALL IN. But color me skeptical... Cloud seeding has been around forever, and there's probably a reason why most resorts aren't investing heavily in it.
But I could be wrong. Curious what other people think.

EDIT: Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I think I'll book 3 days at Alta.
Hello all. I will be in SLC area the first week of January and would like to learn how to ski. I am thinking of doing a 3-day group lesson. I've been doing a good amount of research but can't decide.
Thanks for the help!

Hello everybody! I know this is a long shot, but if anyone still has a Snowbird Freeloader pass they haven't given away and doesn't think they'll end up using it, I'd be incredibly grateful if you'd consider passing it on to me!
If you don't know what a Freeloader Pass is, its a free season pass for people 18 or younger that comes with the purchase of any Summit season pass (that isn't Young Adult).
I'd really love the opportunity to get out skiing more this season, and it'd genuinely mean a lot to me. I know these passes are valuable, so absolutely no pressure if you'd rather keep yours or have someone else in mind.
Either way, thanks for being part of such a great ski community, and thanks for considering it!

I purchased a day pass for SnowBasin last year for a day the resort ultimately was not open due to the terrible snow year last year. I grew up skiing there and like to go back once a year. Sadly I can't afford to buy an ikon pass or get away from work commitments more than a handful of times a year so a day pass is pretty precious to me I've tried to call the resort and emailed [ticketsales@snowbasin.com](mailto:ticketsales@snowbasin.com) and have not heard a peep back. My way of thinking is if the resort was not open the day you purchased due to lack of snow they would be willing to work with customers to arrange something the next year. Has anyone had any luck getting a resort to work with you in a situation like this or am I just out $225 or whatever I paid? If that is the case I will never spend another day or cent at Snowbasin.

Just got the alta email with my parking code. New for this year is if you dont' show up for your rez you get fined $100 (after one warning).
Ouch. I guess I like the idea of people being more careful with reservations but I also no-show sometimes because weather or traffic or something.

Thought this was an interesting summary of what's new at the different resorts this season. I'd heard about most of it here and there, but it's nice to see it all in one place.
Hadn't heard about Snowbasin's new "Meadow Pavilion" before. Will be interesting to see that in person.

I want to get back into skiing. It's been 30 years. My partner wants to start. They've never done it and are very nervous. We're in our 50s. Which slopes in Utah have the gentlest slopes?

Edit: 41 years ago today!
In 1985, due to an early season snow storm, Powder Mountain opened their Sundown lift for night skiing on Wednesday October 2nd. I know it was a Wednesday because despite my pleas, my dad wouldn’t let me go on a school night. I had to wait until Friday night, which was October 4th. What sticks out in my memory, besides the early opening, and the looong lines on that old double chair, is that there were still leaves on the aspen trees!
Predictions on first measurable snowfall? Or when the snow guns will be blowing snow ❄️?

This injury is not from skiing but running.
Moved to Ogden with my husband. I deep fried my meniscus, have 3-4 tears in it and will need surgery. I do like Jeff Harrison and had an appointment with him previously for a different reason before. I just had a surgical consult with him. I want a second opinion, everyone recommends Cooley. Reviews of Cooley?

I am in need of some triangular/“witch hat” wickets aka the wires that resorts used to use for ski lift tickets. Anyone know of a UT resort that still uses them? Or have any intel on a resort that might have some laying around after switching to RFID?

the mid 90"s to early 2000's were the shit. the Bird was so lit and we had it all to ourselves. literally country club up LCC and so many Rock stars coming to shred and hang with the locals. I remember serving three dudes from Pearl jam at the morning buffet up in the Cliff and then saw them out on the cirque in the afternoon. the beastie's were always coming out to shred too. and they like gave 200 tickets out to all the homies for their show at Saltair. that shit was insane.

October 1st marks the beginning of water year 2027. Looking back at WY 2026 we mostly remember a dryish warm winter, followed by a wet monsoonal HOT summer. The numbers above show the percentage of water that fell in each basin when compared to the 30 year average. But looking at the basins, the water (mostly) did fell from the sky across the west over the last year. It's amazing how not having that water locked up in snow makes for really bad drought conditions, even though the right quantity more or less did drop over the last 365. They took the state lines out of the picture generator awhile back which makes sorting it a bit tricky, but the northern Wasatch is roughly that cluster of "99%, 93%, 90%" in the middle. Jackson Hole area is 102% of normal, Tahoe area is 104%.
Last day of the crazy 2022-2023 water year added for comparison.
UPDATE: Here's the map with lines, sorry. I never bothered to figure out how to put them back on and honestly like the matrix I was so used to looking at the map I just knew where everything was. I can totally see how it is hard to understand if you don't know the map already.
