I am a current electrical engineering student and I am looking to transfer to the mathemaatics 3+2 program. I am a bit lost on who to contact as every source is giving me a different answer.

Would I have to complete the entire mathematics BA Program in 3 years?

Questions Spring semester question

I am a freshman right now in the fall semester and I’m really confused about when to make my spring semester schedule, I am a computer science BS so I don’t know when I should do anything. I also am wondering what the enrollment thing is, my Hub says my enrollment date is November 18th, and it doesn’t tell me much about what that is. Anyone have an answer for these two questions?

Venting Anxiety and overthinking

What's a good way to not let anxiety run your life? I try to not let anxiety get to me by focusing on my breathing and slowing down and being mindful and listening to calm music and I've been to counseling, but I still end up anxious. I don't know what's wrong with me. I just want to do good in my classes and live my life to the fullest, but there always seems to be something in my head stopping me from doing so. It's like I'm not in control and it's my anxiety controlling everything I do and don't do.

Exam Reference Sheets

In certain courses that allow cheat sheets for usage during exams, do you make a very detailed cheat sheet full of images, both sides filled with every possible notes, diagrams, and visuals, because you:

Are struggling and are desperate to do well
Know the material decently but want to get the highest grade possible
You don't make overly detailed reference sheets

Rob is a great professor and great guy, but his reputation for hard tests precedes him. Is his reputation true or is it overblown?

MTH121 Mid Semester

Checked HUB and saw that I received a MU (Midterm Unsatisfactory) grade in MTH121. I got full credit for every single participation session, showed up, handed in notes and did every homework, but a single learning check assessment automatically leads to no credit for the entire category. That's what I absolutely hate about the layout of this course. The grading is all or none. Either credit is given or not. I don't understand why partial credit isn't even considered whenever a student receives a "P" on their work. P still means they were partially there and that they showed thinking! For a seemingly introductory level math course, the grading is unreasonably strict and unforgiving.

MTH337 Lottes vs Badzioch

I am planning on taking MTH337 next semester as well as MTH241 and CSE191 and I am building my schedule right now. I am just faced with deciding between Lottes and Badzioch. I looked on rate my professor and Lottes seemed like the better option, but I prefer the time of Badzioch's class and I am wondering if the professors are different enough to make it worth it.

Smoking in Residential Buildings

I understand that Ellicott is the literal weed hangout, but holy hell do I feel bad for everyone that lives in Clement Hall this year. Last year I got at least an estimated 10 fire alarms (with drills) but the reasons mainly were because people can't do their laundry or cook. There was one troll that decided to pull the alarm at the end of the year, but I have wished the worst for that group entirely.

This year, I live in Evans Quad in the Ellicott Complex. I have smelled weed at least 6 times, either because of people smoking on the terrace or in the literal quad clearing. However, to whoever smoked in the Building 7 Lobby, you are an absolute idiot because other than employees using the elevators, you did it right outside the adminstrative offices and whenever employees leave from that exit, they will smell it.

Fire Alarms are super sensitive no matter what heat/smoke is detected. To any future smokers that are dumb and decide to smoke in broad daylight/ moonlight, I will take photo evidence and you will be reported to UBPD.

Venting PSA about mobility aids and medical devices

Here's the deal. Don't ask someone with a mobility aid/larger medical devices to exit the elevator so you and your friends can get on together. Technically, they should be getting first dibs while waiting for the elevator as well.

If someone with a device asks for your seat on the bus, let them.

If someone walks into the bathroom with an obvious medical device that requires space, give them the handicapped stall.

According to the ADA, service animals are considered medical devices too.

On the note of service animals, do not take pictures of them, do not try to interact with them, and be understanding that they need space. Ask the owners if you can pet them, but don't get butt hurt if they don't let you.

A lot of this is common sense; you're in college, use your brains.

Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

Noise in libraries

It really shocks me that such a large proportion of UB students (adults) have no respect or awareness for their surroundings. Like in my years attending UB i've rarely been to the library (specifically the designated silent/quiet areas) without people talking with friends, on the phone, or on a Zoom call. There should be no confusion...there are signs everywhere that tell you where it's okay to talk and where it isn't.

We need to stop being so comfortable inconveniencing other people for your own satisfaction. It's embarrassing as adults pursuing degrees in higher education. College is a place to have fun and make friends, the library is not.

Honestly we just need to grow up

Questions MCAT Prep groups?

Background: I’m a 27 y/o nontrad starting UB as a transfer in the spring to finish my bachelors after a stint in the Army. I haven’t taken OChem yet, and can’t take it until the fall, which makes preparing for the MCAT daunting. Are there any study groups or resources for premed focused students?

I'm making my schedule for next spring and I'm split between two sections for PSY101 - I'm between Poulin's in person section or the asynchronous section. Can anyone give me an idea of what either one was like if you one of them? Any advice is welcome :)

I need some guidance (ME MAJOR)

I am currently in sophomore mechanical engineering and cannot physically make myself care about physics 2. I was thinking about dropping the class then focusing more on my other big engineering classes, then maybe finishing physics 2 later on or during summer break. I just physically nor mentally cant care about the midterm and I feel like rushing through it will not only hurt my gpa but also my understanding. Should I just lock in and get it over with, or just take it later since it’s a pre req to nothing? My other harder courses are Calc 2, Mathlab, and statics. Some advice would be nice because I’m pretty conflicted right now, I would be taking 16 credits if I dropped the class for reference also.
