Moving/Visiting Weekly /r/Tulsa Megathread

Are you moving to Tulsa? Just visiting or passing through? Want to know where to live, eat, hang out, have fun, or bury the bodies? This is the place to ask.

This will be a weekly megathread that evolves over time. As members of r/Tulsa make suggestions or answer questions that come up a lot, we may add those items to the body of the post for easy reference. But for right now this is a place to ask any questions you may have about moving to or visiting Tulsa, OK, where our motto is "We're more than just OK, we're living the dream."

General Soliciting NSFW

• Upvotes

Just want to kind of vent a little. But I’m so tired of coming home to my apartment and having little pamphlets about churches or take out menus or whatever is going on with schools because I don’t have kids. But these little assholes today tried telling me that spreading the word of Jesus isn’t soliciting and they had permission from the office to be here and do this. With a Bible in his hands, telling a lie. Because I called my office and they did not give permission because they don’t want soliciting either. People will leave these things at empty apartments and the wind just takes them away. Sort of a waste for this era. But like cmon guys 🤦🏻‍♂️ that is all. Thanks.

General Hahns vs Appliance Solutions

• Upvotes

Went to a couple used/scratch-n-dent appliance stores to find a decent fridge. Ultimately found one at Appliance Solutions that came with an $80 installation fee. Turns out the fridge didn’t fit so we had to return it. Lo and behold, there’s a 20% restocking fee. This was never told to us when we bought the fridge, which would’ve been the responsible thing for them to do.

“Well you didn’t reject it when we delivered it.”

Yeah, my husband wasn’t home. I’m not gonna make that decision without him.

Told them I’d buy a Maytag on the spot if they’d be willing to waive the restocking fee, and they said they’d get back to me. So I went to Hahns and got a heavily discounted GE instead. Sticker price was $1099 and we paid $599. No restocking fee if it doesn’t fit. $50 installation fee instead of $80.

I think I know where I’m going next time.

General Is it better comfortable in Tulsa than money “tight” in San Francisco?

So Ive got two job offers, one in Tulsa, the starting salary is 70k which according to my research is enough to have a good life in tulsa as a single person without debt. But I have another offer in san francisco, for 85k, thing is SF is way more expensive and that salary will have me… lets just say tighter than I would in Tulsa, im not saying frugal but I wouldn’t be able to save money as id like. My only debate is that I know me and I know Tulsa is most likely not my type of city, im gay I like to be around lots of people, im hispanic, i like going out, id have to make new friends and idk… i want you to convince me the money is worth it to live in OK instead of SF. Or the contrary. Ive never been to either city before btw.

Question Metal bars?

I used to go to fantastic shows at the Whittier, but stepped away for a while so I could settle into a new relationship. Now I’m trying to get back into it and it seems like everything has disappeared from town. I’m into all types of metal. From doom to danish black metal. Anyone have any ideas???

7:00p: The Room with live commentary from Greg
8:45p: Intermission
9:10p: Tulsa premiere of Big Shark with an intro from Greg

There’s a meet-and-greet with Greg too. Big Shark is Tommy Wiseau’s newest movie, and it’s about three firefighters trying to save New Orleans from a giant shark. You won’t see it anywhere else in town.

General Looking for a cleaning business to help remove cat urine smell

Hello all,

I am looking to hire a cleaning business to help remove the smell of cat urine out of 1 room in my apartment. I had a cat pee on a bag and when I picked the bag up urine got on the carpet 🙃

I immediately cleaned it with my spot carpet cleaner but the smell persists, and instead of trying diy's tricks, I would like to hire someone who has experience cleaning cat urine and successfully getting the smell out.

I'd probably treat a 4x6 area since im guessing there was more spillage than I thought.

Please dm me with your availability and pricing! Thank you. I also live in an upstairs apartment for reference.

Question Weather and microclimates in different areas of Tulsa? And why?

I don't live in Tulsa, I visit sometimes for family in the region. I'm wondering, are there microclimates within Tulsa? And/or are there areas that get better/worse/different weather than other areas? Like a neighborhood that gets more or less storms, flooding, snow, tornados, etc? I'm also interested in the reason, science, folk knowledge, common sense, anything, as to why. Thanks!

Question Does anyone have advice on interviewing with the local 430?

I have an interview next week with the local 430 for the apprenticeship program. I'm changing careers and trying to get into plumbing.

Can I get any general advice or maybe some things to expect? What are some things I should prepare for that I might not think to.

Any specific way I should conduct myself?

I'm a vet if that matters. (honorable)

Thank you.

Question Rad tech program for Tulsa Tech

I plan on attending to TulsaTech next year for their radiology program.
I was wondering what others scores at TulsaTech have been in the past?
I got a 90% on my HESI A2 and now standing at 94/100 points for rad tech admission

I know the program is extremely competitive though. I keep seeing to aim for 95-100 points to be considered competitive.

If anybody knows the program, or has been through it, do you think I should retake the HESI?

Tulsan In Need Suggestions for a no BS marriage therapist?

Not sure if this is the right flair so I apologize if not.

Looking for someone who is pretty direct in sessions and will call us both out on our bullshit. Would obviously prefer someone who accepts insurance but I know that's pretty hit or miss with marriage counselors.

I appreciate any suggestions!
