general question I'm wondering if anybody ever shoots trap with 20 gauge?
I've been invited by a friend to go shoot some trap but all I have is a 20 gauge shotgun, is this something that's normally done?

Hello, Iāve been looking into some O/U shotguns and was curious about ejectors. My buddy says ejectors are the way to go and should be on every gun. I have been trap shooting many times, but it was long ago. Iām starting to get back into the sport and looking into a new gun. Iām on a bit of a budget, but wanted to get opinions if ejectors really do matter in casual shooting (some buddies getting together). Thank you for your input!

Decided to take my cynergy apart and clean it like normal. Ended up taking the stock off the receiver and cleaned the internals. Now the guns top lever doesnāt lock to the center when closing the gun (sometimes it does lock). Got to the point where it wouldnāt fire shells when it did lock. How bad did I break my gun?

Has anyone tried the shotgun shells from Winchesterās new competition line? They look like they were made to compete with the Remington 27s. Iāve seen a few reviews of the rifle and pistol ammo but nothing on shotgun yet.

I shot trap on a proper field for the first time today. I shot my winchester model 1300 featherweight 20 gauge with a full choke and I managed to hit 72% of my targets. Is that good?

Used to shoot trap twice a week 14 years ago, but then I got married and sold my shotguns. Just getting back into shooting this year and my club in Coloma MI has Thursday night Trap shoot and I want to get back into it, at least a few times a month. Just bought a nice Remington 1100 Trap (back in the day I started with a Benelli Nova, then a Beretta AL 390, then got a Browning BT 99 and finally a BT99 plus), a shell catcher and a shell bag. Just have to find a good place to buy shells. Used to reload with my old boss so it was really cheap to shoot. Just looking forward to having fun on the line, meet some new people.
I am in South Bend IN, but shoot with my friends in Michigan. Used to shoot in Warsaw IN.

Iām currently shooting a Turkish O/U for trap and averaging around 23ā25 in both singles and handicap. Iām getting pretty much perfect breaks every time with Modified choke.
Iāve shot Improved Modified before, but for some reason I feel like my Modified choke gives me a denser and more consistent pattern than IM. Not sure why. I recently came across an older BT-99 in great condition with a fixed Full choke. Iāve never actually shot Full choke before. For those who have experience with BT-99s or fixed Full chokes: ⢠How noticeable is the difference going from Modified to Full? ⢠Would Full be advantageous for both singles and handicap? ⢠Could the tighter choke actually hurt me at closer targets, or is that not really an issue with good breaks? ⢠If my Modified is already giving me consistent 23ā25 scores, would you bother switching to the fixed Full BT-99?
Iām mainly wondering whether Iād actually notice an improvement in breaks/pattern performance, or if it would mostly come down to gun fit and confidence.
Thanks!

Long time competitive shooter but havenāt gotten out in a long time. Want to dust off my DT-10 before the weather turns to sh*t. Where is a decent place to buy shotgun shells these days?
Location: western wa
Thanks!

Genuinely asking here. One of my buddies has a couple shotguns and took me trap shooting. Only other time I went was summer 2025. First round went 15/25 second round went 20/25, both rounds had wobble on. One of the old timers hopped in our round and said I looked pretty good and that I had real potential to win money in the local league. Is he just yanking my chain and trying get a few extra easy bucks in the pot? I'm not really a gun guy but I enjoy competition especially when there's a few bucks on the line.

What a blast! My first round was 12/25 and the second was 14/25.

I have been getting into trap/skeet after being away for years. My youngest has been shooting with his HS team and is getting pretty good. Iām still looking for my first ā25ā. His school team puts on a fundraiser trap double shoot every year.
Iām a consistent 22ish shooter on both trap and Skeet. I shoot a nice Browning O/U. My problem is every year at the fundraiser I shoot terrible on doubles. (Only a handful of times I have the opportunity to shoot doubles.) Maybe mid 30ās. Whatās the trick? Tips? I tried searching but didnāt have much luck so Iām starting a new thread.
Share what improved your scores.
****EDIT****
What speed shells are you guys shooting doubles with, is there an optimal speed? I load AA hulls for 1150 or if Iām feeling lazy I buy fiocchi target max 1165. All #8.

Iāve been shooting my old 1956 Superposed for about a year now. Itās the first gun Iāve owned that just fits and itās the first gun I hit 25 in a row with. Since then itās been smooth sailing, but I want to retire it and only use it for upland birds now because sending 1000s of rounds down the barrel makes me stressed. The gun has definitely loosened up since I started using it so much.
So now I ask what avenue I should take for a trap gun. Does a modern (ish) Citori fit close to the same as its predecessor? I am not a fan of high ribs or Monte carlos or any of that either. Should a guy try a silver pigeon? I just donāt know lmao

Iām new to trap shooting and I need a shotgun. Any recommendations for my first one. I have a budget of about 1000 dollars for the gun.

Went to shoot trap first time today and I got a 10 and my buddy got an 8 out of 25. Only brought one box of ammo for each of us but both of us liked it and will be continuing. We both have tactical shotguns as slug guns but we used loaners. My biggest thing is the guy showing us the ropes didnt really have any pointers or help with where we were hitting. what is a good way to get better faster. I guess idk where I missed when I did. When shooting a target its pretty easy to tell if im high or to the left.

Hello all! I shot trap a few times and had a blast. I want to get my own Ou and was looking at this. Would this be allowed in leagues and completions? Is this the sort of thing I can grow with as a shooter? Is 28 inches ok?

My wife has just gotten into shooting with me and has been obsessed with my vest, hoping to find one in her size. Thanks in advance.

I've recently started shooting trap and have really been enjoying it! I found 2 great clubs nearby hosting weekly trap shoots, both have been very welcoming and eager to help me learn the sport. My best so far is 21, not bad!
I've been using a 90's Mossberg 500 with a 28" bead barrel and have been quite happy with it. I stumbled across an Italian over/under customized for the original owner (his name is engraved on the barrel, something like Dave 30-06 Palmer). It's in seemingly excellent condition and is quite striking, if a bit dirty, and would look gorgeous all cleaned up. I've done some hunting around for average pricing but haven't come up with much, just a few old sold listings for the 400-500 range. It's on consignment, asking price is $800.
This listing seems to be an exact match and has excellent pics/technical details.

So tell me, is $800 anywhere close to a fair price? Would you consider this a solid trap or waterfowl gun?
Thanks in advance!

Hopefully this is "allowed".
I won a 101 trap (single barrel, monte carlo, 34"bbls) yesterday by surprise on GB. I've been in the market for a dedicated single barrel trap gun for a while and ordered a brand new BT-99 earlier this week. I also put bids on two other guns, one an older BT-99 (70's, monte-carlo, 34" bbls, excellent condition) that went for $1,525. That price surprised me as I consider that to be high. I also put a bid in at $850 for the 101 this post is about just for fun, I expected it to go to at-least $1k. Well, as it turns out I won it for $831. I feel like I've gotten a screaming deal on this gun, I'll attach a photo album below. It has some handling marks, but overall I would consider it in great condition. What do you guys think? Is this a great deal, or do you think that these are just not worth any more than $850?

iām trying to get in to shooting and I am a university student so my budget is not Baller. Iām thinking of picking up something like a Mossberg 590 so that way I can shoot both shells and slugs. My range does not let me shoot shots at paper targets so I wanted something where I could do the best of both worlds.
Iāve been told that if I come to a trap lineup with a tactical shotgun with a barrel, thatās not as long as your typical trap gun I will get bullied. Is this true?
I understand that itās not the most ideal gun to be shooting trap with however, I am just starting off and I wanna see if Iām actually into the sport without having to commit to a specific type of gun before I make an investment
