People who visited Pridnestrovie, did you see any other tourists there?

I will be visiting PMR in January and would like to know how touristy it is. I see a lot of social media posts about it, but I am unsure whether this is a proportional representation of the country's popularity. Most of the people whom I've told of my trip already knew of Priednestrovie.

Hitchhiking in PMR

Hello, when we visited PMR last year my friend and I decided to try hitchhiking. We walked to the outskirts of Tiraspol and started making signs to stop cars on the northern road out of Tiraspol. However except for a one or two taxis we turned down, not a single car stopped in over 3 hours of trying. There really was a lot of traffic but apparently nobody was feeling it, and after years of hitchhiking in many different countries it remains the only one where I completely failed. My question therefore is... why? Is hitchhiking completely out of the culture here? Is there a lot of distrust between strangers? Or did we just get very unlucky? What do y'all think?

The image painted of this country by western governments is a lie.

I deleted my reddit a long time a go, but I felt the need to come and express my anger about the lies told by the media about this place, So I made a throwaway just for this post.

I am from Ireland and recently visited pridnestrovie for 2 nights , I diddnt expect it to be a dangerous place at all but my government currently has your country listed in the same travel bracket as places like syria and iraq, while I never believed this to be true it can still play on your mind a bit before visitng. This is evidently untrue and in my opinion a lie to stop people visiting and spending their money in your country simply because it is pro Russia.

From the moment I arrived at the border with Moldova I could tell it would be a friendly and safe place to visit, The soldier who checked my documents wished me a nice day in English and was very polite.

I did not see a single soldier on the street in Tiraspol and I even walked through the outskirts of the city to reach the vodka bottle museum in tirnauca, sure I could have gotten the trolley bus but I wanted to see more than just the center of the city for myslef, everyone I encountered was very welcoming to me even though I only know very basic Russian phrases. Not once in any part of pridnestrovie did I feel unsafe. I rarely even saw police, I believe I saw maybe 5 police cars in two days in tiraspol, I would see more police than that at home.

Bender seemed to have more military checkpoints and stuff around it but it wasnt anything extreme and still seemed like a perfectly calm and safe place to visit. The fortress was great as were all the monuments in tiraspol, there certainly isnt any other place like it in the world and I will never forget my trip.

Many people in Ireland have not even heard of pridnestrovie, but those that have possess a negative view of it seeing it as the kind of place where the authorities would jump at the chance to arrest a westerner and imprison them, this could not be further from the truth, as with any other country you respect the local rules and customs and you will be fine.

Thank you for having me in your country and I hope I will return someday.

Potential issues with merchandise?

Hi all, I'm planning to do a day trip to Tiraspol next week. Planning on then leaving via Chisinau airport. Will there be issues bringing souvenirs such as flags, currency and other things back to Moldova?

Also is it safe to visit now? I know crime is low but I'm more talking about the border with UA. Thanks sm!

Dentistry in Priedniestrovie

Hello lovely people!

Having been to Tiraspol before, I’m interested in coming back and on occasion see a dentist. (Nothing particularly dramatic.)

Just wondering if there are any clinics you’d recommend and what the prices are compared to Kishinev?

Thanks!

Chisinau-Tiraspol and back in 6 hours?

Hello everyone,

I am going to Chisinau on the end of the month and should arrive at the airport by 10:20, I was wondering if I would have enough time to visit Tiraspol or Bender and be back by ~16h so I can get the train to Bucharest.

Is it possible? Even if I stay there for just 1 hour or so? I really don't want to miss this opportunity as I'm not sure that I'll ever go there again.

Also, is the minibus from the airport available currently?

Any tips and info are appreciated!

Visiting Grandma

I’m a 28 year old male planning on visiting my grandma next week - I’m an american who speaks russian (with an american accent) who’s traveling on an american passport. I asked my babushka to keep this trip a secret from my mom. Somehow, my mom found out. My babushka admitted to telling her friend that I was coming - though she insists she wouldn’t tell my mom. The babushka rumor mill in Bendery is a strong network 🙃

Mom talked to my grandma; now my grandma is saying she’s sick, her boyfriend recently fell, that it’s dangerous… even though two days ago she said it was safe.

I don’t feel unsafe going, and was really looking forward to seeing where my parents grew up (they both grew up in Bendery). Is my mom right, or are her feelings that it’s “unsafe due to the war” overblown?

Is buying and having an unused Licence Plate legal?

Today on my way back from the Sheriff Complex I came by a scrap yard. I went in and asked them if they had an unused Licence Plate I could buy as a sourvenir. They had a whole stack and sold me one for just 200 rubles.

But now I am back at the hotel wondering if it’s even legal for me to have it. What do you think?

Edit: I want to bring it home to Denmark and hang it on a wall

What kind of place of pridnestrovie

I haven't been able to find much information about pridnestrovie, and I would really like to hear directly from people living there: what is life like there? Are you happy? Do you support independence, or would you prefer to be part of Moldova? I would love to learn the details

Football jersey shop in Pridnestrovie

Hey! I'll return to beautiful Pridnestrovie in November to explore more after of the country after at first having seen only Tiraspol. Now, I remember that a while ago someone here posted a thread with a fantastic football jersey shop in Pridnestrovie. It was if I recall correctly very south in the country, very close to the Ukrainian border in a small town. It was very full, with football jerseys from all over the world.

I've been trying to find this thread back and been searching the whole internet for this shop, but I really can't find it. Does anyone here maybe know which one this could be? It's not the Rabona one in Bender, it was a different one, I think very south. I'd love to bring it a visit!

Planning a trip to Tiraspol, share the experience

Hello! I’m planning a trip to Tiraspol and want to see what life is really like for the locals. I specifically wanted to stay in a neighborhood but still close to the center, so I booked the Elektromash Hotel cause I'm interested how it looks. I’m a fan of Brutalist architecture and the vibe of those Soviet-era panel apartment blocks. The reviews are good, but I’m curious about the reality. Is it a safe area? And what is the general safety situation like in Tiraspol and its districts?

Comrat - Tiraspol links

Hi folks, looking at travelling to Tiraspol from Galați - is this possible to do without travelling to Chișinău first? Are there links between Comrat and Tiraspol directly? Any information would be much appreciated.

DOUBTS ABOUT THE PRIETENIA TRAIN

Hi. Me and some friends are planning to visit PMR on November, and since we have a friend studying on Bucharest, we were planning on taking the Prietenia train, from Bucharest to Chisinau. The thing is, we haven't been able to find a lot of information about the train or where to purchase the ticket and how much would it cost online. So I was wondering, where could we get this info?

How do I get from Tiraspol to Bender by Marshrutka?

Hey, I want to go from Tiraspol to Bender by Marshrutka but I‘m not sure where the stations are. A friend who was here once told me they start at the trainstation but I read that it changed. Is it at the same spot like the marshrutkas to Kishinew at the market?
