Typical Tortie Caution: short fuse, may become fractious

My little bug had to have another overnight veterinary adventure on Friday (her third since July), and I was told by all the staff that she was the epitome of tortitude.

She has a big warning on her chart that says "caution: short fuse, may become fractious." She also has one that says "go slow, may bite" and she needs to be sedated before all diagnostics. I swear she's really sweet as long as you're not trying to poke her with a needle!

Junie is home now and went back to bossing me and her siblings around almost immediately. She also made sure I was well aware how displeased she was to not be allowed to eat a single small brown rock for 26 hours.

How do your torties do at the vet? 😅

Typical Tortie Day 5: she lets me take pictures!

I posted before about our newly adopted baby being the most scared cat I've ever met, but we made great progress those first few days: she stopped moving her hiding spots whenever I saw her, ans now she even lets me get close enough for pictures! This is the first good one I took from Marie 🫶🏻

She still won't take food (of any kind, including churu) from me, or let me pet her, but she's been slepping on her high shelf while I'm in the room, which I consider a great sucess!! She also wanders through my desk at night, and learned how to turn the camera to the wall 🤡

Edit: I know the plant she's laying on is toxic if ingested, we're moving it as soon as I can catch her away from the shelf to avoid scaring her. She's not ingesting or playing with it, but I'll take it down anyway.

Smol Tortie Meet my Tortie!

This is my adorable friend Goob! (named after the character from Meet the Robinsons) She's about a year and 2 months old and I've had her for about 2 weeks now. She's a very social kitty who will melt the hearts of anyone who meets her with her love of affection. She loves Sitting in her cat tree, playing with her wand toys, and cuddling up between my legs.

Goob is my first ever cat after years of my mom and I begging my dad to let me get one (He didn't like the idea of having a pet in the house aka another responsibility). I had always struggled with my mental health and motivation so I thought having a cat would help ease my anxiety and keep me motivated to not just take care of her but also myself. Safe to say when we brought her home she instantly made herself home. I was warned by the rescue we got her from that many cats when the first come into a new home tend to hide and be a little nervous, but Goob instantly claimed my room as her own. That night she explored every square inch on my room and made herself comfortable. Not only did she make herself at home, but she melted my family's hearts. My mom instantly fell in love with her and my dad's reluctant heart melted as soon as she came over to him for affection.

Dont get me wrong, although she's an angel on the surface, her tortitude comes out when the sun sets. Right when I try to get some sleep she'll climb onto every surface and knock things off onto the floor and get into things she knows shes not supposed to. She'll meow and throw little tantrums if i dont give her enough attention for when shes hungry. But despite it all, I wouldn't trade her for the world.

Although I've only had Goob for two weeks, I love her more than anything. She's the perfect companion I needed in my life. When we showed up to her foster home to meet her, she was with a lovely foster family who had many other cats, kids, a dog, and much more experience with taking care of animals than I ever had. She was a bit shy and skittish when we had met her with the other foster cats and the foster family's toddler being in the room with us. I was a little anxious bringing her home, she had cried in her carrier as we drove her to our house and it made me wonder if bringing her home was a good idea, that maybe she would be better off with a different family who knew how to handle a cat unlike me who was bringing home her first pet, but Goob had let me know, as soon as i let her out of her carrier, that this was a good home for her. That entire night she made biscuits on every blanket, and soft material she could find (including my lap) and purred like an engine. She cuddled with me that night in bed and purred softly as she fell asleep. She makes me so incredibly happy and I love her to pieces.

As a new adult fresh out of high school who is incredibly anxious about my future and spent my years in high school wondering if making it to 18 was even worth fighting for, Goob has made me the happiest I've felt in a long time and made me see that theres plenty in life to live for.

I love my Gooby girl :)

(Also please ignore typos and any writing/ grammatical errors. I'm trying my hardest and in no way in hell am i using AI.)

As of October 9th, I have been Deadlocks dad for a year now.

I truthfully cannot imagine where I would be without her. Her and Chamber(void kitty) have been my rocks through every horrible moment this year.

She’s an amazing cat. She’s a little scaredy cat about almost everything but people. She avoided the bathroom for months(my ceiling had a leak, she avoided it even after the Leak was fixed lol), but she will greet everyone at the front door regardless of if she’s met them before or not. She is scared of the broom(I genuinely don’t know why), but she will brave her enemy if it means rubbing up on someone’s leg.

She’s also a lovely introductory cat. My brothers partner is terrified of cats, but she has convinced him that not all cats are evil. Whenever they come over, his partner will spend a good amount of time playing with the kitties and just enjoying their company. I have yet to meet someone who dislikes her or her friendly habits. She’s a cuddly cat once she knows you, and she makes sure she gets her affection.

She’s been amazing with her little brother, who is insane and tests both her patience and mine near constantly. She seems to understand he is younger and therefore still very hyper(she’s always been a more chill cat in comparison), and treats him accordingly.

I truly could not have had a better first cat than her.
Here’s to one year, and many more to come.

Little Chippy had her spay. She handled the procedure well but it has been a struggle to keep her activity levels down, she wants to run and climb like usual which has been stressing me out. I’ve been watching her like a hawk, have her in a safe room and she has been good with wearing the cone. Please feel free to share your tips or recovery experience.

Typical Tortie I got a bar stool so I can sit and cook even on bad pain days. Ankaa approves.

I deal with chronic pain, especially in lower back, hips and legs, so we decided to buy me a bar stool, so it's easier for me to cook while sitting. Ankaa thinks it's a nice napping spot and I can't blame her, it's quite comfy. So far, we've managed to share lol

Luna is celebrating her 5th(ish) birthday. This sweet baby was part of a feral colony that I scooped off the street. She’s the sweetest girl you’ll ever know. No one would guess she was from the streets. 😂

Don’t worry about the string: I always check that she doesn’t remove it from the plastic bag!

Boodle (short for "Kit-Kat-&-Caboodle") finally displayed her gold-rimmed right hind-paw when I had a camera handy!

Third pic is mostly to show off her face, with its orange nose surrounded by mostly-black fur, but also includes the underside of that "halo paw" with its speckles and freckles.
