šŸ“New rules and subreddit update

Hello!

Just wanted to update the community on what's going on and to get some feedback. For those who are unaware, we are a new modteam put in place after Reddit locked r/TorontoDriving down. Last week, we reopened the sub to submissions and we have made some changes.

In our first community post asking for feedback, a big problem you guys pointed out was the rampant racism and toxic comments present here. We want to assure everyone that we are here to fix that while not being overly restrictive on discussion. The point of this subreddit is Toronto DRIVING, not politics and especially not race baiting culture wars. There will be no tolerance for prejudiced comments making sweeping generalizations. Feel free to shit on the person's driving but not on their race! (doubly so if you can't even see who's driving!!) We have already handed out a bunch of temporary bans for such comments and will be moving to permanent bans for reoffenders so be warned!

Anyway, we have created a set of rules that we hope can keep this sub clean. Please let us know if we missed anything or if you have any feedback, thanks!

Proposed New rules:

1. Must be relevant to driving in Toronto

Your post must be related to driving on the roads/highways in the City of Toronto and the municipalities bordering Toronto - Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham and Pickering.

Exceptions can be made for exceptional videos but should be in the GTHA area.

2. No racism, prejudice or hatespeech

There is zero tolerance for hate.

Do not make prejudiced comments or generalizations targetting a particular group of people.

Do not make assumptions about race or gender (especially when it's not known or relevant).

Do not use any toxic language that is associated with racism such as slurs, epithets, name-calling, stereotypes and dog-whistle terms.

3. Be civil to other members and mods

Do not use excessive profanity or name-calling. Attack the action - NOT the person. Threads that devolve into a personal attack back and forth will be locked and removed.

Sending abusive modmail will get you muted without explanation.

4. No doxxing or witch hunting

License plates and faces recorded in a public place are allowed but posting private info like names, addresses and social media is not allowed. Do not speculate on or ask for such info. Only information confirmed by verified sources such as police and reputable news outlets are allowed. Do not post license plate info or pics of people with unsubstantiated stories (video or it didn't happen).

If you have private information that is relevant to an accident, please use private chat and contact the user or police directly. Do not post it publicly.

5. No low effort submissions like parking pics, memes, recent reposts or other spam

Low effort posts like parking pics and memes will be removed. Please check if your question or submission has already been posted recently. We will remove repetitive submissions.

Do not post any advertising, self promotion, irrelevant links, videos with excessive overlays, social media memes or story plus photo posts.

6. No editorializing or misleading titles/comments

Titles should be descriptive of the video or article submitted. Posts with overly dramatic or misleading titles will be removed.

Comments and titles that push misinformation or agendas not relevant to the post will be removed. Posts with unsubstantiated back stories may be removed at mod discretion.

7. No illegal or extreme content

Do not post anything that breaks Canadian law or Reddit Terms of Service.

Do not threaten violence or incite violence.

Do not encourage others to break the law or abuse legal loopholes.

Do not post anything that is excessively disturbing (please use Death/Injury flair if posting a bad accident).

Change log:

  • New flairs
  • Submitters can now lock comments (comment "!lock the comments" on your post)
  • Text posts are now allowed
  • No longer required to add text (body) to video posts
  • Pictures and gifs allowed in comments
  • New automated filters against racist comments
  • Heavily reported posts automatically filtered for manual review

Please let us know if there are other changes you would like to see in this subreddit. We are open to ideas!

Thanks for reading :)

šŸš“ Police 🚨 avoid highway 404 south

All 5 right lanes on highway404 south are closed, starting at Major Mackenzie until Finch. About 3-4 km of traffic. Cops loafing and a car stopped in the shoulder on the very right. Avoid the area if possible or get off the 404 before Major Mackenzie road if you have commitments today.

Wooden board flying out of a trailer that was being towed by a car. Glad it didn't hit my windshield.

No damage to the car.

Mildly infuriating Why are people stopping in the middle of the 401 for a small accident that resulted in a small dent or scratch on their car?????

On the 401 going west in Scarborough, 2 cars are stopped in the 2nd lane from the left holding up a ton of traffic due to an accident that had no or minimal damage.

Why can’t people learn how to pull over and sort out insurance on the side instead of holding up the highway in rush hour.

In result many cars including myself had to try and switch lanes around them when everyone else is already going 70-90 and we are stopped because of these entitled drivers.

Mildly infuriating I don't think that's a left turn, but what do I know

On the left side, car uses a left-turn lane but crosses straight. He goes to the Gardiner ramp so he must have gotten off by accident.

šŸ’„Accident Dashcam request for hit and run on 401

Good morning everyone, I was on the 401 express westbound on my way to the airport. Just before exiting the highway to 409 my car got scrapped by another car. It happened around 5:50am to 6am. Does anyone have dashcam footage of this incident? The car sped up and left before I could get any more information but it looked like a darker colour SUV. Thanks in advance.

FYI - I posted this in askTO originally but couldn't crosspost properly...

Mildly infuriating Left turns from Jarvis reversible lanes

What is up with people pulling into the reversible center lane on Jarvis against the indicated direction to turn left at intersections.

I see at least a few people doing it every time I drive there. I get that the reversible lanes might be confusing, but do they not notice they're suddenly facing oncoming traffic?

Question Black SUV’s

Is it just me or is there a massive influx of black full size SUV’s in the city lately who just don’t know how to fucking drive? Downtown I’ve noticed more and more of them, I know they are probably Uber or whatever, but fml none of them can drive.

šŸš“ Police 🚨 Full stop on 407

Today I was driving and a white SUV did a full stop on the 407 in the middle lanes. Cars are going 120km to 150km on that highway. This person stopped because their exit was almost passed.
We almost smashed into them. We luckily swerved but after I thought if a car was beside me we could have all died.

We were going west on 407 etf around 5-6pm. About 3 min before the QEW exit. I will post video once I return from my trip.
This person should be charged with reckless driving.

šŸ’„Accident Hit and Run Weston and 401

This is a Hail Mary

My father was rear ended by someone today Oct 23, 2026 at 6:30am. He didn’t have a dash cam, which I told him to get many times…

Suspect vehicle was a Honda Civic

Was hoping to see if there was anyone with a dash cam or caught the license plate of the vehicle. My Father was going southbound Weston rd near the fork to enter the 401 Westbound.

Thank you!

Edit: The Honda Civic was leaking coolant and had a large dent on the hood as it sped off onto the highway

Close call Tesla driver almost hits me, gets mad at my honk and brake checks me

Was driving on Islington today, this guy doesn't give a left turn signal and tries to merge without looking, obviously I had to brake and honk at him, which made him brake check me and chased me down the street, luckily I evaded him and had to speed up to avoid him

Original Cammer [OC] Hurry to switch lanes back and forth

Happened this morning at 8:30am.

I dont know why trucker thinks he can drive like driving a small car and just switch when they feel the other lane is faster.

Just stay away from a left lane and have patience!

Dangerous driving POV: Toronto at 7 AM. Left-turn lane? Never heard of her šŸ’€

Yonge Street, Toronto — Oct 22, 7:03 AM. Red SUV sitting in the left lane like it's turning, then goes straight and drifts into the white sedan's lane — inches from a sideswipe.

Close call Had a close call while turning left

I had a pretty scary close call yesterday. I was making a left turn at an intersection when the light turned orange. A vehicle from the opposite direction was turning right. They cut across two lanes and ended up coming directly into my path.

Luckily, I hit the break on time and honked. They missed my car by a very small distance, and thankfully, there was no collision.

Now I’m wondering whether I did something wrong.

Question How do you convince a friend that their driving is dangerous?

A group of friends and I travelled up north over the weekend from Toronto, I was driving my car and my friend rented a Benz GLC. I noticed multiple concerning things that I felt put my friend’s and his passengers’ lives at risk:

- on 401, changing lanes at 70-80 kmh while flow of traffic was at 100 kmh
- on 400, weaving through minimal traffic at 160+ kmh (he acknowledged the speed himself)
- on single lane highways, he overtook cars multiple times on deep bends with no visibility of oncoming traffic
- struggled to keep his car in his lane and was moving side-to-side (it felt like he almost clipped my car when he overtook me at one point)

He doesn’t have his full G and I was trying to gently tell him about these things so he could improve, but he brushed me off. He admitted that his driving on the 401 ā€œneeds to improve so he can pass his testā€, but otherwise he argued that the lanes were empty so speeding and overtaking is not an issue. He’s only been driving for about a year now (usually with a rental) so it might just be lack of experience. I know these maneuvers will be fine most of the time, until the one time it isn’t and causes an accident.

A part of me thinks he’s trying to show off because he was complaining about the rental price but still went with a luxury SUV. It’s really frustrating that he’s putting lives at risk just to speed and I’m trying to figure out how to get through to him.

Mildly infuriating Another day, another Tesla..

Sure it wasn’t a life or death situation but literally never knew buddy was there or coming.
Rear camera shows him speeding from the right lane out of nowhere and going in front of me.
Crazy how the stereotypes live on..
I always plan ahead and get in the proper lane well ahead of time. But these guys don’t think at all and wait till last second. There was even someone that drove all the way to front of line and started signalling..

Question Left hand turn accident hypothetical

Before I ask this is not something that actually happened and I’m asking for advice in a round about why it’s purely hypothetical. Though one that for sure could happen in this city and I think could spark some good conversation.

So here it goes, say you enter an intersection to make an unprotected left and there is a car behind you. When oncoming traffic clears you begin your turn when a pedestrian darts into the intersection and then starts to cross slowly as you enter the oncoming lane trapping you in the path of oncoming traffic, as the car behind you follows you through trapping you. As you are stuck in the path of a traffic a coming car hits and t-bones you.

Who would be at fault l for that accident and what if any mitigating factors would be applicable. Such the speed on the oncoming traffic, how long the on coming driver had to stop, how visible the pedestrian cross was, or anything else not listed here.
