Fundraising Top Surgery Funding

Hi everyone 🩵

My name is Avarie (He/Him) and I’m a 28 year old trans man from Massachusetts, USA.

My insurance isn’t covering all of my surgery and I’m disabled and unable to work. I was hoping to put it out there to ask if anyone had even a dollar to donate it would mean the world to me. I’ve been struggling with a large chest most of my life, and it’s just kept me inside and afraid to leave the house, having constant dysphoria. And binding becomes a difficult option with having GERD. I can’t really afford to lose a percentage of anything with crowdfunding websites so I’m just gunna put my Venmo and PayPal out there in hopes that maybe someone may have anything to give.

Venmo: @AvaGrieco
PayPal: avamgrieco@yahoo.com

I’ll attach some pictures of me so you all know I’m real lol

I’m always willing so make and sell art for anyone who is interested in that if you’d like something made by me instead of just donating! I sculpt and paint and write🩵

Thanks for taking the time to read this🩵

Keyhole / Peri I think I'd like to get top surgery this year while I'm off school for medical reasons (more mental health) and I'm not sure where to start.

I live in DC, am possibly small enough for keyhole or perioareolar (but on the edge) and would prefer that, but I'm willing to travel anywhere for a good surgeon and result. I have family connections in Chicago and SE Michigan, too. I like Johns Hopkins as an option, but am open to anyone's recs.

I pass 99.9% of the time anyway, but unlike a penis, I feel like I need that to feel complete.

Any advice for a new guy? I've never had surgery before and have put it off, but I've been on T for nearly three years and that aspect still feels missing in thinner t-shirts or after the shower.

3 weeks post-op: DI w free nipple grafts, w dr. christopher homsy at tufts. covered by my masshealth wellsense insurance. i love the incision shape & nipple placement, it all looked great until a few days to a week ago when the skin around the nips started getting pinkish red + breaking out w gross little white/yellow pimple type things. until they finally said i could switch to just putting aquafor on my nips yesterday, i was using bacitracin + xeroform on my nips, & covering it up with gauze dressings & a surgical binder of course, which i’m supposed to wear almost 24/7 for another 3 weeks. i don’t seem to have much if any swelling & my skin is sooo much happier during binder breaks. here are a few pics along the way. pics are in chronological order: 8, 11, 14 days post-op, & the last one is this morning—22 days post-op w all the worst irritation. Discussion Top surgery consultwith Dr Katherine Rose.

Dr. Katherine Rose is a surgeon in PA.

Booking

I already had a letter from a qualified therapist and my PCP physician when I contacted them.

In September, I called their office a few time trying to book an appointment, but had some complications, I forget why exactly. Eventually, I got through and they told me I needed to fill out a patient intake form. I believe the office got my email wrong the first time, so I waited a few days and called them again to comfirm the email, then I received it same day.

There was no option to digitally fill them out, only mail in or fax, so I printed and filled out the papers. I faxed it through my PCP doctor's office.

After a few days I received a MyChart account login link and made an account with Mainline health. I called the office again on September 16th and booked the appointment over phone for October 22nd.

(I had opted in for earlier options on MyChart, and the next day, the 17th, I received a message about opting for an appointment on October 1st. I took the appointment, but was later contacted about that being a system error and Dr. Rose would be off that day.)

Consultation (Today!)

The appointment was at 10:30am, with a note to arrive at 10:15am. I arrived at 10:10, the building wasn't confusing to navigate, receptionists/front desk workers were all very kind, and the parking lot was easy, though pretty full.

I finished checking in at 10:15 and was taken back into the exam room at around 10:30 by an assistant nurse who took my blood pressure, asked me what procedure I wanted, etc.

She left, and I waited 20-30 minutes for Dr. Rose's PA, Dan.

He asked me what I wanted out of the appointment today, and what i wanted with my procedure. He answered a few questions I had, told me to remove anything waist up and get changed into an open front gown, then left.

I don't know how long I waited for Dr. Rose and Dan to come back, but I did for a bit. To note, they both knocked before entering the room, which I liked.

I brought a notebook for writing notes and wrote my questions in a Google doc.

Both Dan and Dr. Rose were nice and friendly, though I did feel a bit rushed once the surgeon was actually here. She did take the time to answer my questions, mostly an atmosphere thing I'd say.

We went over what I wanted, my medical history, etc.

She examined me, told me what I qualified for, and what she would do. She kinda said she'd place my nipples where she liked, and I may not like it. Which kinds gave a vibe of "I'm the professional here, so we're going at my pace/confort, not yours." But idk.

I am 5'3" and 173-175 lbs.

She said with free nipple grafts, they're dead and they won't have any sensation. I asked about nipple reinnervation, and she said I'm above the BMI for that, that I would need to lose weight and wouldn't be able to have liposuction then because it damages the nerves. I sadly didn't ask how much weight I'd need to lose for consideration, because I was sure I'd probably want liposuction to avoid dog ears and unsure if I could lose that weight before surgery.

Since I want nipple piercings eventually, I asked about this and she said that is a question for my piercer and for how my nipples heal. Some pierciers say piercings are too heavy for grafts.

She declined to show me before and after photos due to not showing patient photos.

Exercise, weight gain and weight loss: while my chest will grow and change with exercise, any excessive weight gain or loss will most likely need a future revision.

Revisions: depends on if my insurance covers it, so sounds like she doesnt do reduced price or free revisions. Though Mainline health has a financial aid program based on your income.

She said I'd wear my drains for 1-2 weeks.

I would have post-op follow up appointments at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months.

Not allowed to carry anything over 10 lbs for 4 weeks.

Go back to work in 4-6 weeks.

I'd be allowed to shower normally 2 days post-op.

I'm not to take THC for two weeks pre-op and two weeks post-op.

The official date wasn't settled until she contacts my insurance and if a few other patients insurances go through, but gave me a date in December and January that are maybes, and if not the surgery will be in February.

I left the appointment at 11:41am.

Then I went back to the front desk 10 minutes later to ask about surgery costs without insurance.

The lady I spoke to (someone in the financial end but i didnt get her title) made sure to emphasize this was an estimate without the full details yet, but the actual surgery would $6,000 (price depends on how long the surgery is and how many grams will be removed), the liposuction will cost $3,150. I believe that doesn't include anesthesia.

I will update and reformat this later.

I had my reduction done 6 days ago and I'm loving the results so far! I started at a 32f and my size should be about a 32b now. My surgeon took about 500 grams of very dense breast tissue from each side. No fng.

Advice Wanted Are my nipples really bad? Can they be fixed?

Coming to 5 months post op after DI with FNG. My surgeon was fantastic and the healing process overall went well except for my nipple grafts, for which the healing was quite fraught. It’s no one’s fault, sometimes it’s just how bodies work.

But as a result, my nipples don’t look the best. They’re very bumpy, ragged, and large. I’ve wondered about medical tattooing, but I worry that might cause them to look too big. They’re already quite large as they got stretched out a lot during healing. Do I need to go back onto the operating table? I would love to hear any advice or opinions.

I’m not in any great rush to get anything done, since I know the scar tissue likely hasn’t settled. But I would like to fix the appearance of my nipples eventually because I’m now insecure about them. I’d also love to hear any thoughts on my DI scars and whether they’re looking normal for 5 months. Thanks!

I am eating constantly and I feel like it’s too much. My pain is mostly gone but itching has started 😭 anyone dealt with similar and can tell me when it started to get better? 🥲

Advice Wanted ¿Me puedo quitar la faja?

Post image
20 Upvotes

Keyhole / Peri Folded in nipples

Thumbnail

I'm roughly 4,5 months post op and everything else has healed as it should so far, but my nipples are folded in really weirdly. Sinking in on the incision was expected but I really don't understand what inspired the upper half to do it as well considering my incisions are around the lower half only. It's also awful trying to clean inside the folds because these fuckers are really sore. Especially the more one in the first picture is really tight and I'm pretty sure it has a little poorer circulation than it should.
I'm curious to hear if anyone has any idea how long it'll take for these to sort their shit out and straighten out. Also any tips on how to clean the creases without too much pain would be greatly appreciated

Advice Wanted Compression doubts

Thumbnail

4 weeks post op (I have my last consultation with my surgeon next monday so I'll ask him this as well) and according to my clinic I am now allowed to stop wearing my compression vest full-time (like only when I go out or for half a day, being able to not wear it at home or while I sleep) and I'm doubting how useful my full torso vest is at this point. My most persistent swelling/liquid buildup is:
-Between my pecs where there can't really be significant compression because I have a bit of muscle that separates the fabric from that zone so there's always very little compression there.
-Armpit area. There's swelling/liquid where the binder ends because I have a lot of fat there and it's always tight. The part that remains under the fabric is doing well but the one outside not so much.
Is there any way to deal with these two areas? I know it's a bit too late to have any significant complications but I'd like some imput about it.

Advice Wanted Compression vest recommendations

Hey, I'm looking to get a compression vest that's a bit easier to get on. I'm a caretaker for my partners upcoming surgery, and due to poor hand dexterity I'm a little concerned about the standard compression elastic that will be given?

I got my own surgery a long time ago and never got a zip up compression vest or anything, and I remember both my mother and father had to struggle together to try and get it on...

I want something that compresses the same, but is just easier to put on like Velcro or a zipper. Ideally through something like Amazon since my small town doesn't have any stores that'd provide something like this to be honest.

Thank you for any recommendations.

(I also wouldn't mind things like food recommendations, or any other helpful tips I should know as a caretaker. I got my surgery at 16 and I'm not 21, needless to say I'm a bit rusty with the post op situation but I know the jist haha....)

Discussion I have a consultation with Dr.Faulkner in early April, when can I expect the surgery to be scheduled for?

I know this will vary based on insurance, cancelled appointments and availability around the time of the appointment. I was hoping to see why the timeline was like for anyone who’s been to seen Dr.Faulkner at Emory

Advice Wanted mild anemia

I had a blood test last week and my results indicated mild anemia and they are otherwise fine if I used male reference ranges (I have been on hrt for 1.5 years), is it a red flag that my surgeon treated my blood levels as completely normal? My ferritin levels are elevated by female standards, is this just a case of them thinking mild issues don't need to be noted? The too low levels are something like .2g/dL lower than male reference range for hemoglobin.

Advice Wanted Suggestions for a post-surgical wrap?

Hey! I got my top surgery Oct 13th and am now official about a week and three days post-op! I love the results so far and have already been to my post-op appointment/check-in.

Everything looks good, surgical tape has been removed, and my current setup is a compression binder with a cotton shirt under it typically. That being said-

My sleep has been absolutely horrible. I am lucky to get about four hours at night. I have a long compression vest that ends at an awkward point and the band at the bottom has been driving me insane as well as the shoulder straps.

I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for a post-surgical ‘wrap’ rather than a vest? I’ve seen people where these or talk about them, but having trouble finding one myself. I think it would help with my sleep problem. That and I have to go back to work eventually (Nov 3rd) so I would need something shorter that I could at least function mildly in.

TDLR: Any post-op wrap recommendations for a sensory-sensitive individual? (preferably without shoulder straps)

Advice Wanted Tryna get a flatter chest pre-op

Hey y’all, I’m looking to get top surgery w/o HRT (mastectomy w/free nipple grafts & lateral liposuction) in 2 years, so I’m aiming to get it done during summer 2028. I go to the gym about twice a week and I’m a PH at FedEx so I do a lotta physical, heavy lifting at work. Anyone have any tips on building a good workout routine that will help build a flatter chest pre-op? I’m specifically tryna focus on building muscle in both my arms & upper chest. I don’t necessarily wanna be super muscular, but definitely toned. For reference, I’m slender/skinny with a small chest & frame. Any advice is much appreciated!

Double Incision My experience with Dr. Fakin Zürich (so far)

Helloo <:

First time making a post like this but when I searched for surgeons I was super nervous and trying to find as much Info as possible, so I thought a post like this would've helped my past self (and now maybe someone else)

Context:
Usually, top surgery is covered by insurance in switzerland, it's however (atleast from my insurance) required to be at least 1 year on T + be in therapy with a gender psychologist or smt. As I don't want to take T for now, I got rejected for insurance coverage (despite 2 letters from different psychiatrists). So I had to pay by myself.

Costs:
Double Incision with Urgotouch: 10'500 CHF (around 700ish less without urgotouch I think)

1 Night stay in the hospital: 1’351.25 CHF.

You can either pay in installments with interest, the whole thing at once, or 50% of the operation fee (excluding night stay) and the other 50% at least 2 weeks before the surgery (so for example, say you contact them in idk February, your surgery is in May, you can pay 5250 CHF in March, the remaining 5250 2 weeks before surgery).

Pre-Op
I contacted them end of august on whatsapp (+41 78 603 59 55) and could actually talk with Dr. Fakin the same day lol (in person, but online works too). The staff were suuper friendly, Dr. Fakin is a bit robotic but not rude at all, he talks very fast so maybe do a bit of research + prepare questions in advance (I would've probably been a bit overwhelmed had I not haha).

He will have to look at your chest to determine what surgery works best for you, but it was very quick, just a quick glance at that was it.

He speaks german too. All of my conversation with the staff were via whatsapp

After that, I got to schedule a surgery date, I could've gotten one in less than a month, but I decided to do it in November for personal reasons. So just to say, wait times are (in my assumption, maybe I just got lucky) very short. I also got a link to fill out an anesthetic questionnaire.

A night stay at their clinic is not included, you have to specifically ask for it if that's something you would want and they will organize that for you. If you don't want to stay the night, they let you rest a few hours till you're fine and then you can go home.

A person over the age of 18 has to accompany you when you leave, you are not allowed to leave alone (or to drive)

Hope this helps someone, feel free to ask me anything! <:

Advice Wanted period post op??

Hey all. I’m almost 3 weeks post op, but I’ve had a surprise period for a week now as well (after 3 years of not having one). Is this normal due to the stress healing might place on the body? I’ve reached out to my surgeon but there hasn’t been a response yet. I’m also going to get my hormone levels checked next week, although I’ve been on the same dose for 5 months now and nothing of this sort has happened.

Any advice would help 😣

Nordesthetic Surgeons

Hi, It's looking like Nordesthetics is going to be a likely choice for me to get top surgery with. I wanted to ask on this forum if anyone has gone with Nordesthetics. Additionally, what surgeon you went with, and how you chose the surgeon (I know sometimes it is based on availability). I am looking to get a DI ideally. Thanks!
