Video Tasmanian Wolf featured in the children cartoon The Bamboo Bears

Thumbnail

The Bamboo bear was produced by Dutch company Kingma Productions, in co-production with Mitsui & Co., ZDF, TF1, 4D / Marina Productions, and Televisión Española. It was first broadcast in 1995. The series production was supported by World Wildlife Fund.

A thylacine is shown in the beginning of the intro and near the end. There was also an entire episode about the thylacine.

The gang travels to Australia when sightings of the extinct Tasmanian wolf are reported. Rataleone wants to capture the thylacine both for the cash reward and to put it in a zoo. Last known thylacine died in captivity in 1936 and the species was declared extinct in 1982, long before the show's creation.

There isn't much scientifically accurate information in that episode😅 but hey, it's a cartoon for children who are interested in environmental problems and species conservation.

Video Thylacine Tales - Lost Media 1858

This video is about a missing photograph and taxidermy specimen from 1858. I take a look at what is known about the photograph and the people involved in its creation.

Don't ask me how I did it, but I just finished another video. Any further videos will be scheduled and not drop immediately. I'm hoping to get one out about every week.

Discussion Thylacine Tales - future episodes

I'm trying to make a sort of bridge between the scientific knowledge of thylacines and people who want the information in less technical terms, and I want suggestions.

I'd like suggestions on certain individual thylacines, thylacine related artifact, possibly book reviews (I already have some), also I'll read a scientific paper and basically report the important information. I'm not bad at translating from technical researcher writing to something more understandable and approachable.

in these videos I try to take the history of one individual thylacine or artifact and do a deep dive. I relate what we know about the it to the time period, and what we know about the thylacine species from an individual or object. I'm basically making the videos I've wanted to find and haven't been able to. I'm trying to make the history of the species that everyone on this subreddit is so fascinated by (me too! me too!) make more sense in an understandable and hopefully interesting way.

Whenever possible, I track down original sources (some are online now). I also use papers and books by researchers as sources. Less trusted sources aren't used or are clearly stated. I don't own any original images, so I try to make clear who does own them. I also list all my sources so you can go down the research rabbit hole if that's your interest.

I'm currently working on a couple Halloween inspired episodes like the Nullarbor Plane thylacine mummy and a comparison between a replica thylacine skull and a real canine skull (it might be a coyote).

I like to alternate covering individuals we don't know much about with one's we have more information on. This gives me enough time to research each episodes properly.

I'm holding off on doing the last male thylacine, the last zoo thylacine (female), and the Tyenna male (most photographed thylacine) because those need extra research to do them justice.

So, back to the main question: any suggestions??? What individual thylacine or artifact are you most interested in?

This video is about an old lithograph that is often mistaken for a photo of a thylacine in its native habitate.

Another script is already nearly finished. The next one is about a zoo thylacine.

What I think

Gonna be upfront straight away and say that I firmly believe these beautiful creatures have indeed gone extinct. I hate that but the lack of evidence for their continued existence particularly in the late 2010s to now leads me to believe this to be true. That being said I also firmly believe that this animal didn’t go extinct in 1936. I’m highly doubtful Benjamin was truly the last one and I subscribe to the idea that they possibly persisted into the 1970s to 1980s. While I believe the overwhelming vast majority of sightings are either inauthentic or a case of misidentification I firmly believe that the 1982 sighting by Hans Naarding was the real deal. A wildlife expert who got not just a quick glimpse but several minutes of observation at close distance.

Anyways these are my two cents on the matter

Video Search for thylacine in Papua New Guinea on YT

Some time ago (a few months? maybe a year?) I've seen a video on YouTube made by a guy that got his pilot license somewhere in Africa, then bought (or rented?) a small plane. His plan was to fly to remote, uncharted parts of Papua New Guinea, where he believed tasmanian tigers might still live. He was about to upload a second video of the rest of this search a few weeks after the first part. I'm interested about a result of his journey, but I can't find his channel. Maybe somebody here recognizes this man and can tell me if he's still on YouTube, or if he hid/deleted his video or even a whole account. I really want to know if he has found any sign of thylacines there.

Video A new Thylacine Tales video just dropped

This video cover the male thylacine taxidermy specimen at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia. Unfortunately the Academy is having serious problems right now. I chose this specimen to bring attention to this issue.

Thanks to all the people who watched the premiere episode of the playlist.

I haven't come up with a catchy sign off for this playlist yet. Suggestions are welcome.

The only suggestion right now is: may your freon never leak, but the explanation for that is at the end of the video.

Discussion Can we get more details about Lucy the Thylacine?

The only mention I see is from here : http://www.naturalworlds.org/thylacine/captivity/zoos/circuses/circuses_3.htm

Apparently she was a pet who was released but two years later she came back with her joeys to show them to her former human owners.

Taronga male at Beaumaris Zoo 1916

I'm starting a playlist on YouTube looking at the documented history of thylacines through one individual or artifact at a time. My first video is on the Taronga male.

I'm like to invite you to watch it. Please leave comments. I welcome suggestions on how to improve future videos.

News Thylacine Sighting

I live in Queensland, Australia. In 2007 I went on a trip with my wife to Tasmania. She took many photos of the natural wild life, and she took this one of what she described as a dog. Last year I had a few friends over, and one of them is a biologist. Since the photo was framed up, he saw it and had a closer look suggesting it could be a Tasmanian Tiger.

List of captive individuals

Hi there - wondering if anyone has compiled a master list of all captive individuals and traced where they ended up? I haven't been able to find much online re a comprehensive list, and would be keen to make one if there isn't an existing one.

Anyone else get a weird vibe from his interviews with witnesses? I don't know why but it just seems like he's very easily "Yep yep yep that's a Thylacine". Kind of reminds me of those bigfoot shows Animal Planet used to have.

Now, don't get me wrong, I want them to still be out there, and I think it's entirely possible there's a few still holding out somewhere, but I don't think they're everywhere in the Australia/Tasmania area like so many of his interviews claim.
