To what extent do you believe we need increased regulation for AI and social media, and in what specific ways? Furthermore, is there a genuine need for another heavy-handed, neutral UN tech department to oversee this which further divided into sub categories like AI?
- AI Text Detection & Protecting Human Writers
We urgently need a mandatory, universal token-detection tool integrated into every social media platform. Users should be able to click an option on any post to see whether the text is AI-generated highlighting AI-generated words in red and human-written words in green. If implemented properly, this would be a powerful way to expose bots and coordinated narrative-manipulation campaigns.
At the same time, we must protect and reward real human writers. Right now, AI infrastructure generates massive, compounding volumes of text that are impossible to manually verify. As AI text becomes psychologically normalized, writing loses its meaning and emotional depth the very human spark that makes storytelling (like great anime narratives) resonate.
However, we also need nuance for assistive tools. Platforms should include clear, separate labels for text that was simply dictated via AI, lightly edited by AI, or grammatically corrected by AI, so human thoughts assisted by technology aren't confused with pure AI fabrication.
- Social Media Identity & Anti-Impersonation Safeguards
Every social media platform should implement mandatory, real-time face verification system whenever a user uploads or updates their profile picture. Because profile pictures are the primary visual identifier in almost every online interaction, the current lack of verification makes it far too easy for scammers to hijack local individuals' photos, impersonate them, and defraud or harass their friends and contacts.
Using a system similar to government ID verification where a chosen profile photo must be matched against a live face scan would stop impersonation scams at the source rather than relying on reactive, post-incident cybercrime reporting. To protect user privacy and trust, this system must enforce two strict rules: - Biometric data must be stored only temporarily and deleted immediately after verification. - Platforms must be legally prohibited from using this data for AI training or any other secondary purpose.
- Generative AI Media (Audio, Video, Images), "Slop," and Algorithmic Control
AI-generated audio, video, and images are the most concerning formats and should be separated onto a dedicated platform or at least into a clearly segregated section within existing platforms distinct from human-made content. Audio, Video and Image are one of the best innovations of Humankind. It shouldn't destroy that hardwork putted on the past intense scientific work
Critics often argue that humans produce plenty of low-quality "slop" too. That is true, which is why AI slop and human slop should be addressed separately rather than mixed together in an already fragmented information ecosystem. Tech giants, startups, and the open-source community should collaborate to build an open-source scoring mechanism across all platforms that evaluates AI slop and human slop independently through a scoring mechanism.
Furthermore, we need algorithmic regulation that protects free speech while curbing manipulation: - Constructive Amplification: Governments should require platforms to de-amplify abusive language and coordinated hate narratives while actively boosting constructive criticism and solution-oriented discussions.
- User-Controlled, Open Algorithms: Algorithms should not control humans; humans must have the right to control their algorithms. Social media algorithms should be open and transparent. Meta recently took a step in the right direction in beta by letting users steer their feeds using topic descriptions with AI assistance not for marketing, but to surface relevant content. This level of user control should be mandatory across the industry.
- The AI Hype Bubble, Open Source, and Tech Oligarchs
Right now, countless startups coming out of San Francisco and across the US market themselves purely on superficial AI buzzwords—"We have AI on our website," "We have AI agents," or "First of its kind." Nobody is impressed by that anymore apart from X platform. Basic AI integration is completely standard now. Meanwhile, the open-source community continues to build genuinely useful software without rigid corporate hierarchies, which is a much healthier model. Instead of chasing marketing hype, tech giants, startups, communities, and governments need to partner up combining technical tools, non-technical approaches, and sensible regulation to solve real, complex human problems. This is written specially for Developer's, Tech community and Government's for their attention to this severe matter
This brings up the broader intersection of tech, geopolitics, and billionaire oligarchs. History shows us that no single "genius" should be immune to fact-based, ethical criticism. Consider Albert Einstein: he is rightly celebrated for his scientific brilliance, yet his connection to the development of nuclear weapons reminds us that every influential figure has blind spots and ethical trade-offs. We cannot blindly depend on or idolize powerful individuals we have to evaluate their impact neutrally and push back against misguided priorities.
For example, look at Elon Musk recently launching yet another flashy vehicle while backed by trillions of dollars in capital and thousands of the world's brightest engineers. With all of that talent and funding available, we have to ask: Do we actually need this? What complex, real-world problem does it solve, and is it genuinely practical? Finally for him I would say WTF
I know this is a long read, but I have been researching and thinking about these issues for months after personally experiencing the fallout of these problems. I would love to hear your honest thoughts and feedback.
This should be worth if Steps taken on the problems and challenges talken about them in this post earlier
