The Silence of a Small Town
Drain, OR. Mostly abandoned buildings throughout the whole (former) commercial district of the town. The two bright vacant buildings that I photographed were across from each other.
I often ride my bicycle around here. It has ghosts of an old way of life that nobody follows anymore all around, but none of the same bustle and commerce that happened in the bygone days whose stories are told in old photographs and newspapers in the library. As an old logging town, the mills are still active but to a much lesser extent; certainly not enough to support a thriving economy. Most buildings are privately owned but vacant because the owner won't sell for less than whatever unjustifiable price they're hoping for, and some are being executed demolished for their risk of collapse in a theoretical earthquake.
