Part 1 Discussion My Take on TLOU's characters Spoiler
I have played the last of us part 1, as many have and I wanted to kind of share my takes on the main story of it, first off this game like so many PS studios games has some of the most real, and most human feeling main characters, this one in particular was the most human like characters, driven by their own motives different ideals here is my take on some of them:
Joel: I have seen few MC's exist that are broken but good and joel is exactly that, broken from day one of his journey loosing his kid, that cutscene and one other are like the shattering moments of the story, that scene being at the very start, told me that this shit is real, and his bond with ellie, was heartwarming to see after and made the ending hit different than if we did not know what he came from as explicitly as it is shown and not jus tsaid he is one MC I have put in my top characters
Henry: When they introduced him and sam to us I had the tiny glimmer of hope, and we all know how that ends, this is the second moment where the gem just shatters you, and reminds you how real this game has become you get good stuff then they do that, his only driver was his brother sam maybe a few more months with joel and he had the miniscule chance of moving on and having joel and ellie but the placement of the disaster fits perfectly in the range of him not really knowing Joel enough to be able to move that past, and well, he did not make it out because of it, that felt human, he lost the only thing left in his eyes and he made his choice
Ellie: I loved her chracter in this game she has allt he pent up sorrow while joel is gruff and quiet about it she looks for ways to forget at any time like her joke book, the truck scene with bills magazine she looks for good ways to move past and she is like Joels opposite and how she becomes joels second chance and he is willing to run through the hell of the fireflies to reach her that showed me how joel was done running from it all and ready to stand up, and her story in left behind only helped me see who she is, a teen out in front of the worst things ever her begging to zombie sam was heartbreaking to hear and her argument with joel at the house made me see she is not quite his daughter but close enough by the end for me to see them perfectl

Part 1 Discussion Would u kindly help me to understand, why LoU1 is concidered a masterpiece? I dont get it.
Hello there!
I still struggle to understand why The Last of Us Part I is so beloved. Yes, I played it pretty late, back in 2018, without knowing anything about the story. So my expectations were pretty high, and the cinematic presentation wasn't that big of a deal anymore. But even when I give the game an extra point for how impressive its presentation was back in 2013, I still end up at a 4/10.
But hear me out before you get your pitchforks out!
AND: SPOILERS AHEAD! PLEASE PLAY THE GAME BEFORE READING!
So - I don't get why this game is so beloved. Don't get me wrong, the characters are superbly written, so is the dialogue. The cinematics were insane for the PS3 era. But EVERYTHING else falls flat. Really flat.
The main story is boring because I saw everything coming (besides the ending, which was a disaster in its own way). The best example is the prologue.
Joel's daughter is a typical Hollywood daughter: way too intelligent for her age, way too quick-witted, and simply not a believable little girl — apart from her character model. When what happens happens, I was so frustrated — and not in a good way. There's another girl on the box! I'm not stupid. But the music is so sad, the tears are streaming down everyone's faces, and I felt like Neil Druckmann (the game's director) is sitting right next to me on the couch, screaming in my ear: "FEEL SOMETHING, NOW!" Sorry, dude. You don't get me that easily. Ive seen movies before...
And most importantly: There was another game with a very similar premise to TLoU that came out about half a year earlier. And it did so much more with it: Telltale's The Walking Dead: Season One. Sure, the gameplay wasn't particularly exciting either, but at least it never got in the way of the game's greatest strengths. And, well... the gameplay worked.
But I'm getting ahead of myself.
The WHOLE gameplay is a disaster. The shooting isn't fun because there's literally no precision. In a game where ammo is rare! I manage to hit enemies in other shooters without any problems. Certainly not here. It's a CROSShair, not a CIRCLEhair. The stealth is also unreliable because you can't really use sound to tell which room an enemy is in. So the developers decided to give Joel cyberware: a sonar. A SONAR?! In a post-apocalyptic game without Ripperdocs. Why? No clue. So immersion-breaking! And I cant count the amount of times I needed to look for something to get Elli across some water or to move a dumpster. Does that even count as a riddle? And its so repetitive!
And don't get me started on the ending. Careful, dont spoil yourself if you havent played it yet! I've never been so frustrated with a decision made by a protagonist as I was in this game. IT'S A GAME, NAUGHTY DOG! NOT A TV SHOW! I don't get why I can't make any choices here. A choice wouldn't just be difficult because the game spent so much time making Ellie likeable. It also showed us just how f♥♥♥♥♥ up humanity has become. The entire game builds up to this moment, only to take the controller out of your hands right when things get really interesting. Do I really want to sacrifice someone who's become so important to me for a world that might not even deserve saving? No matter what I choose - It would have been SO much more dramatic! AND: Having to live with the consequences of one’s own decisions is ALWAYS more impactful than merely watching a film hero deal with theirs.
And if you're about to tell me that it's perfectly fine to tell a story without giving the player any choices, consider this: Interactivity is precisely what sets video games apart from movies. If you completely abandon that potential in your storytelling, you're missing out on one of the medium's greatest strengths! Why would you do that? To end up with a worse game? Rockstar demonstrated how you can have both in RDR2: tell a predetermined story while still making the player feel like their actions actually matter.
But enough of the story: The pacing also lacks variety. Especially in the mid-game. You fight Clickers, you fight humans, you fight Clickers, you fight humans. You fight Clickers, you fight humans. Give me a break! Mix things up once in a while! Especially since the combat isn't fun to begin with, while the quieter moments are easily the strongest parts of the game.
The loot also makes no sense. There are only half scissors in this game. Why? I don't know. Every knife breaks after one hit. Why? I don't know. (Of course I know. Because game design. But they don't even try to hide it.)
They try so hard to create a believable world, but then undermine it with such stupid, easily fixable design decisions. Every time I encounter something like this, it breaks my immersion because the game underneath the awesome visuals and breathtaking facial animations reveals its outdated game design.
And this game design was already outdated in 2013.
It probably would've been a great TV show if the main story were better (I haven't seen the actual adaptation).
But as a game? In my opinion 4/10. And that's already taking into account how outstanding its cinematic presentation was back in 2013. I dont see where the "masterpiece" take is coming from.

Discord Hey guys, i need a little help
Hello, hello everyone!
I'm creating a huge tabletop RPG and game system based on The Last of Us. I'd love to know if any of you have pictures of environments in your galleries or interesting videos that could help me with the atmosphere and immersion. I've created some new infected variants, and I'm currently hand-writing the notes. If anyone could also help me with voice recordings, that would be amazing! I plan to create lots of notes and audio recorders to make the universe feel more immersive and bring it to life. To sum it up, I'm looking for help with environmental pictures, maybe sound videos I could use with Soundpad or similar tools, and anything else that might be useful. I'm asking for help while also doing my own research! Right now, though, that's not my main focus, since I'm busy drawing and working on the notes. If you could show some support, share ideas, or even stop by to check out what I'm creating, that would be awesome!
What do you guys think? :D

HBO Show Discussion Episode 1
You won't believe the hilarious script bug I just caught. The teacher literally tells the class that homework is due by the end of class "tomorrow," which obviously means today has to be Monday through Thursday since nobody goes to school on Saturday. Cut to the very next scene that same night, and Ellie’s dad gets a frantic call from his buddy who just got locked up, begging him to come bail him out right now because if he doesn't, he has to sit in a cell all weekend long. That confirms 100% that it's Friday night, because if you get arrested on Friday, you're stuck waiting until Monday morning to see a judge. So unless this school has mandatory Saturday classes, that teacher just assigned homework due over the weekend! It's such a classic editing oversight—the writers probably cut out a scene in post-production and forgot to fix the dialogue, or two different writers wrote those scenes without even looking at a calendar

Part 2 Discussion Jocelyn Mettler (Abby’s face model)
Jocelyn Mettler (Abby’s face model) really won me over with her calm personality while watching her gaming streams. She seems like such a genuinely, mesmerizing, and modest person, the kind of person you’d simply enjoy spending time with. I wish there were more humble and charming people like Her.
She has often mentioned receiving hateful and negative messages from weird guys, and that was one of the reasons she stepped away from social media. She had been dealing with that kind of negativity for years, and it clearly caused her a lot of emotional discomfort. People really are idiots for insulting a real person just because they didn't like a character in a game.
I sometimes wonder what She's doing these days. I saw somewhere that she no longer works as a VFX artist and has moved into a normal office job. I also came across a Christmas vodcast interview with Her uploaded on another YouTube channel last year, although I think it might have been a reupload from 2022, I'm not sure.
A few years ago, she said that if The Last of Us Part III were ever made, they could potentially still use her old face model. However, She wasn't interested in continuing to work on the project on a larger scale after all the negative comments she received. She also felt that Abby's story had been explored enough and probably didn't need to continue as the main focus, although the character could perhaps appear in a smaller role.
I honestly hope everything is going well for Her and that one day She'll let us know what she's been up to.

Fanart Fan DLC Concept: The Last of Us — Bloodlines | Tommy and Joel’s story before Part I
**Fan DLC Concept: The Last of Us — Bloodlines**
**What if we played as Tommy before the events of Part I?**
I’ve been thinking about a possible story DLC for The Last of Us, and I’d love to hear what other fans think.
My idea is called **The Last of Us: Bloodlines — The Miller Brothers**.
Instead of playing as Joel again, we would play as Tommy and experience the years following the outbreak in 2013, discovering how the Miller brothers became the people we meet in the first game.
**1. The beginning — 2013**
The story would begin shortly after Sarah’s death.
Joel and Tommy would try to save their loved ones and survive the collapse of society. But they would repeatedly fail, not only because of the infected, but also because of human cruelty: the military, raiders, and even people fighting for causes they believe are right.
These experiences would gradually change both brothers.
Joel would begin building an emotional wall around himself. He would become more ruthless and distrustful, eventually believing that trusting people only leads to suffering.
Tommy would also be deeply affected, but he would struggle to accept that survival is all that matters.
**2. The hunters — 2016**
Years later, the brothers would have become experienced survivors, participating in increasingly brutal acts to obtain food, weapons, and other resources.
Tommy would use his skills as a marksman to cover Joel from a distance. This could give the gameplay its own identity, with more emphasis on precision shooting, observation, and cooperation.
However, Tommy would gradually become uncomfortable with the people they rob and kill. Some of their victims would be innocent survivors who simply happened to cross their path.
Joel would see these actions as necessary for survival. Tommy would begin questioning what they had become.
**3. The Fireflies — 2018**
Tommy would eventually encounter the Fireflies and meet Marlene, discovering a movement that claims to be fighting for a better future.
The Fireflies wouldn’t be portrayed as perfect heroes. They would have their own contradictions, questionable decisions, and moral compromises.
Through Marlene, Tommy could also meet Anna, Ellie’s mother and Marlene’s close friend.
Anna would be a strong and hopeful character who, despite everything she had endured, still believed that humanity could build something better. Her perspective would help Tommy realize that survival doesn’t have to mean abandoning every moral principle.
For the first time in years, Tommy would begin to believe in something beyond simply staying alive.
**4. The breaking point — 2019**
The emotional climax would come after Joel commits an especially brutal act of violence to obtain resources.
Tommy would realize that his brother no longer sees any limits to what he is willing to do. He would decide that he cannot continue living this way and announce that he intends to join the Fireflies.
Their separation wouldn’t be quiet or peaceful. It would be a brutal argument between two brothers who still love each other but can no longer accept each other’s choices.
Tommy would accuse Joel of using survival as an excuse for his cruelty. Joel would accuse Tommy of being naive and trusting people who would eventually get him killed.
Tommy would finally tell Joel that he refuses to become the same kind of person.
Joel would refuse to change and tell Tommy to leave.
**Tommy wouldn’t lose his brother because he stopped loving him, but because love alone couldn’t convince Joel to choose a different path.**
**5. Anna and Marlene — A connection to Ellie**
The story could conclude with Tommy learning more about Anna and her relationship with Marlene.
A final sequence could connect the DLC to Ellie’s birth and the promise Marlene made to her dying friend.
Tommy’s presence during these events would be a creative addition to the story rather than an established part of the official timeline, but it could provide an emotional connection to the main games.
It would show that the histories of Tommy, Joel, Ellie, and Marlene were already connected long before the events of Part I.
**6. Watching the outbreak evolve**
One of the things I’d love most is seeing the world change over several years.
We could witness the collapse of society, the rise and fall of quarantine zones, the growth of different factions, the spread of infected, and nature gradually reclaiming abandoned cities.
The environments, weapons, resources, and communities would evolve as time passed.
The outbreak wouldn’t just be a backdrop. It would actively shape the brothers and influence the choices they make.
**7. Why I think this could work**
For me, the heart of this DLC would be the relationship between Tommy and Joel.
They would experience the same tragedies, lose many of the same people, and face the same cruel world. Yet they would reach opposite conclusions about what it means to survive.
Tommy would continue searching for a better future, while Joel would build an emotional wall so strong that he would eventually reject the possibility of changing.
This could add another layer to the trilogy:
**Part I:** Joel finds something worth loving again through Ellie.
**Part II:** We witness the consequences of his choices and the cycle of violence.
**Bloodlines:** We discover how Joel became the man we know, through the eyes of his brother, who ultimately chose a different path.
I wouldn’t want this to be a collection of disconnected flashbacks. I’d want a complete narrative DLC with its own central storyline, meaningful character development, and a painful conclusion.
To me, *Bloodlines* would be a story about two brothers who survive the same apocalypse but are changed by it in completely different ways.
Sometimes, losing someone doesn’t mean they have died. It means they have become someone you can no longer follow.
**This is just a fan-made concept, not a leak or an official project.**
**Would you play this DLC? What would you change or add to the story?**

Part 2 Discussion Part 3 idea/plot twist Spoiler
Imagine Part 3 opens with Ellie waking up from a hyper-realistic nightmare. She rushes to find Joel, who's still alive, she suddenly forgives him, and they get a chance to have the conversation they never got to have in Part 2, but Joel is still confused as to what caused this sudden forgiveness from Ellie. They spend some good time together doing random shit.
The game then follows Ellie as she struggles with these increasingly disturbing dreams and nightmares. They're so realistic that she starts having difficulty distinguishing them from reality, making everyday life increasingly difficult. She then eventually explains what's happening to her and the dreams she had to joel/tommy/maria. They decide that they need to find an expert doctor to help Ellie. It then turns out then that the to the Cordyceps in her brain are causing this weird thing to happen.
The main plot of Part 3 could initially revolve around Ellie, Joel, Tommy, and Maria trying to find a way to control the Cordyceps in her brain and stop it from affecting her mind then other shit happens that has to do with immunity/the cure/etc/finding other immune people/other intersting stories.
I know this would basically retcon the events of Part 2, but imagine the possibilities. It would give us a chance to explore Ellie's trauma, bring Joel back into the story, and build a completely different narrative around the infection itself.
What do you guys think? I just fucking hate part 2, fuck it I cannot accept it hahahahahhaa
