Help Is Tilburg a good option for studying and finding work afterwards?

• Upvotes

Hi, I’m currently doing an LLB in the UK and have an EU passport. I’m thinking about doing the Law and Technology master’s at Tilburg, I’m interested in privacy, GDPR and the rise of AI. (before anyone asks. I cannot stay in the UK and there’s no job opportunities for this field in my main country)

I’m trying to figure out whether this is a realistic career path and what life would look like after graduating. I’m willing to spend the rest of my degree learning Dutch, but I’m still unsure about job opportunities, especially without much work experience.

I’m also a bit concerned about housing. Would it be realistic to stay in Tilburg after graduating while looking for a job, or would it make more sense to move somewhere else in the Netherlands?

With the housing crisis, I might have to settle for a fixed one year lease which makes things particularly difficult.. Essentially i’d be searching for a job post-grad while also searching for a new place to stay without an income.

I’m not set on becoming a lawyer. Although it might interest me to get civil effect sometime in the far future but that’s a discussion for another day. I’d be happy with a stable office job with decent pay and work-life balance. Maybe some kind of legal advisor.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who’s studied or worked in the Netherlands, especially if you’ve done something similar. Please be realistic with me before I commit to something I may not be able to handle. Thanks!

Deciding between NHL Stenden and Hanze

• Upvotes

Hey guys!

I'm applying to universities (I'm aware that both these schools are HBOs) and I'd like to ask for opinions, experiences about NHL Stenden's Communication and Multimedia Design programme and Hanze's Creative Media & Game Technologies programme.

My main goal is to pursue game design/development, but I have a background in graphic design and I'm really interested in all the subjects the multimedia design programme offers (which includes game design).

For now, I'm leaning towards choosing the multimedia design programme, but I wanted to see what others think about these schools and programmes first so I can maybe make a list of pros and cons.

Help ADHD meds, new assessment or immediate prescription?

I have adhd and I take Ritalin that was prescribed to me in Italy, now that I’ve moved here I’ve done some research and apparently while a doctor could give me a prescription just based on my previous treatment and documents from my psychiatrist back home it also says they could require me to get a Dutch assessment for the meds which would take significantly longer. Others that have had similar circumstances which one of the options happened for you? What has been your experience?

I’m deciding if Inholland aereonautical course could be it!

Hello, i’m a last year international IB student, not from the Netherlands. I have passion in airplanes and everything to do with aviation. I recently went to Inholland and Tudelft open days. Unfortunately I don’t meet the subject requirements for most of Tudelft course(if not all). Is the Inholland course of aereonautical science worth it? Is it going to “open doors” for me in the future or is it a waste of 4 years? Will I be able to proceed with a mater somewhere else once I graduate or are their limits? Also if anyone has suggestions of other places where I could go study aviation related course both in Netherlands and Germany I would be grateful :)

These are my IB in course just in case
SL: Physics, Math AA, Economics
HL: Psychology, English A and Italian B

Forgot to say that i’m willing to study other engineering courses as i’m generally interested in how things work. Just that my true passion is aviation.

RUG internship for non-eu

I seriously want to go to RUG for EBE bachelors as an non-eu, but I'm being discouraged by people saying UvA or Erasmus is much better, Groningen is too isolated or that there aren't internship opportunities.. what is your take on it? Should I listen and not attend RUG, because internships is important for me.. or will I just have to commute if it's outside Groningen?

Please help, I'm getting mixed opinion. I would've chosen Erasmus but Im 99% sure I won't get selected. UvA is in an expensive city. So.. Groningen seemed nice in money + student life. but, of course, network and employability is #1 for me.

which degree is the best for non-eu employment

hey! for context: I know A2 to B1 dutch because I've lived in the Netherlands for 10 years before moving back to my home country, unfortunately, without the passport. (I was younger than 18 and couldn't do much) but I intend to practice dutch more often to get to C1 by the end of my bachelors/masters!

I'm applying for a bachelor's programmer for 2027-2028 year. I intend to do a masters later on, but perhaps not in the same university/location. I wanted to know from dutch students, non-eu and international students who are studying or already graduated regarding the job market (yes, I understand where and what masters degree I do affects it more) for internationals, for these universities and course for which I have applied for: UvA: Business Administration, Groningen: International Business, Groningen: Economics and Business Economics, and Utrecht: Economics and Business Economics. I would want to apply to Erasmus but my IBO grades for DP1 were 35/42 which I realise makes my chance slim to get in.

Should I just apply to one programme in Groningen instead of two? is it worth it as an non-eu student to study in an isolated region, where internships are minimal? (this is just for bachelors, I may move for masters if I do my bachelors at Groningen)

Which programme is most appealing for a Masters in Finance (at either university listed above, or Erasmus)?

Which programme is most appealing to employers looking to sponsor or may consider to sponsor when they see the programme and university?

I really like the idea of the student life, student city and course (both IBA and EBE) at Groningen, as Amsterdam is expensive as hell, and Utrecht is more humanities focused, but I'm worried about the isolation-- or is any other university better?

Thank you!! I hope my blabber is understandable haha! :)

Discussion Is an internship after first year ba feasible?

Hi, i wanted to ask an opinion whether there are any chances of finding an internship after the first year of a bachelor, during the summer. I'm also willing to do an unpaid one. My background is International Studies and i would look for analytical intelligence related jobs. i mean even small, lesser-known companies would be great for me but I don’t know fi this could actually work since I can't offer much in terms of expertise. It would be more about learning than contributing.

What happens if the predicted is higher than what you get

As the applications now is open I am wondering what happens if my predicted mark are lower than my actual mark. As I still didn’t finish my exam I will be applying using my predicted marks. I am applying for university of twente and tu Eindhoven mechanical engineering. Tu Eindhoven has the selection program for mechanical engineering will that effect. To anyone who went to these universities what grades did you get excepted in. And do they care a lot about extracurricular activities? I am doing British system A levels

Help Failing studies again

Hi [r/StudyInTheNetherlands](r/StudyInTheNetherlands)

I have started with a programme for the third time again. But I think I kinda dislike it’s contents

I was in TU Delft before for BSc Computer Science and Engineering. I dropped out after 4 months because my mental health was seriously cooked. So I went looking for therapy and I received it. Eventually I got both psychological treatment and also medicinal food to gain weight because I’m heavily underweight. I also quit smoking weed, cigarettes and even dexamphetamines that I sometimes took through HAVO and VWO.

Then I started my programme at TU Delft again. I persisted through the whole year but I only managed to get 35 ECTS… I’m still really sad about it and my study advisor right now even asked me if I have “heimwee to TU Delft” which almost made me cry in his room.

This time I wanted to study more nearby because my commute was like 2 hours from home to campus at TU Delft. So I picked UvA Econometrics and Data Science. My reason for chosing this programme was that I really loved the maths courses in Computer Science and Engineering (logic, calculus and the maths that was involved in courses like CO). But I hate the economics classes. I thought Econometrics would be good because it was a mixture of two things I was somewhat good at (economics grade 9). But I hate the economics so much it bores me a lot. And I miss the application to computer.

My biggest problem is the DUO prestatiebeurs/reisproduct that I have left. Should I just persist with this studies (which I hate because of the economics). Or should I really just try again next year. I don’t think I have enough beurs left for a 2-year master’s though… Econometrics has the upside that it has a 1-year master’s. (I have enpugh for 1 bachelor’s degree) I’m still very interested in Computer Science at the VU or UvA (both still have the short commute upside). But I guess I can only apply next year. Or maybe even HBO-ICT would be a good choice but I’d really miss the maths that research uni gives. But at this point I just want a degree (but I’m scared I’ll dread Econometrics and Data Science for ever). I really thought it would be more of a pure maths degree which it really isn’t (imo it’s more an applied maths degree just like CSE was) and I also think it’s teaching is quite weird at UvA as they rely mostly on slides and there are quite a few courses without any books and they have the most akward mentorate programmes where even the mentors just really skip over every ethics component we should have learnt but they just make us study on our own.

If I’d continue this course I really hope it gets more technical/enjoyable when we start Introduction to Econometrics

EDIT; I could just persist and do a minor in CS and some uni’s will probably accept me still but I just really really miss the computer so much. Like I was so stupid and not thinking when I thought “oh yeah macroeconomics I had that in high school 💀, will be fun” Its making me so bored actually

Help Should I be worried?

I'm applying to Buas and planning to start in September 2027. I know that it's hard to find accommodation all around the Netherlands but in addition I'm planning on bringing my cat with me. I've been looking at websites and almost all if not every apartment/studio says that pets are not allowed. Is it really this hard to find pet friendly housing? Do other student don't have their pets with them? Because I'm starting to worry a bit about this, i know it's still early to look for places but please reassure me that it's achievable.🥹

Am I eligible for rent allowance as EU citizen?

hello, I am doing my bachelors in the Netherlands, and I was wondering if I'm eligible for rent and health allowance. I have no job/income/savings that exceed the limit, and I have a Dutch healthcare provider and I'm in the process of getting a digid.

my studio meets all requirements for rent allowance, however when I look at the website, it also required I need a specific type of visa. For a student visa, it said:

" Do you have no paid work or are you a student? Then you must have enough money to live on. This applies to you and your family members who live with you." it also said u cannot rely on public funds, but it doesn't specify which.

does rent/health allowance count as public funds?

I hope to get a clear answer, thank you in advance

Applications Is it normal to receive a PhD interview invitation at such short notice? (Four days, weekend included)

Hi everyone!

This is kind of a follow-up to a post I made about a month ago, when I asked whether it would be a good idea to cold-email a PI before applying for a PhD position. Most people advised me against it, so I decided not to. Fast-forward to today, and I've just received an invitation to an interview next Tuesday, which leaves me only a few days to prepare, including the weekend.

I'm really excited about the opportunity, and I know being invited to the interview is a privilege, but I'm also a bit stressed about the short notice. They've also asked me to prepare a presentation about my previous research experience and what I'd like to achieve during the PhD. I have a major research deadline on Monday and participants coming to the lab on Tuesday, so finding enough time to prepare will be challenging, and I'd also have to reschedule the experiments.

I was wondering: is this kind of short notice normal for PhD interviews in the Netherlands, or is it somewhat unusual? The job posting didn't specify when the interviews would take place.

I'm also considering asking whether it would be possible to reschedule the interview for Wednesday or Thursday, given my existing work commitments. However, I'm worried that asking to change the date might negatively affect my chances of being considered for the position. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would you ask to reschedule, or would you try to make the original date work no matter what?

I'd really appreciate any advice, thanks in advance!

Help Uni Eindhoven VS uni Twente

I put TU Delft as my main uni with aerospace engineering as a bachelor course but now i want to choose another uni bc tbh theres a low low chance i get accepted for that course and the thing is i got two uni choices the ones i mentioned in the tittle and for each 3/4 choices.

Eindhoven: Electrical engineering/Industrial engineering/Mechanical engineering

Twente:Civil engineering/Electrcical engineering/Industrial design engineering/Mechanical engineering

from these courses i've been advised by my headmaster to avoid mechanical engineering bc he predicts its going to be taken over by AI and personally i would like to avoid elctrical engineering because im currently studying my A-levels in my physics and im lwk weak at circuits like not making them but calculations related to them always confused me and i could never understand them

So that basically leaves me with one option for Eindhoven and two for Twente so here comes my question which uni offers a better industrial engineering course because if it is eindhoven i could just apply for it there and for civil engineering in twente but if its twente then i would try to apply to both courses in twente

Ik the course isnt everything to choose about a uni but if there's anything else i should know i would love to know because i am currently very confused and im feeling very stressed as my parents are putting alot of pressure on me to choose something

Pls help any advice is very much appreciated

Careers / placement Psychology career

Hi ive moved from turkey to the Netherlands this year, I have a dutch passport and I speak dutch on a B2-C1 level.Currently im doing a WO and im planning to get my propedeuse and start a bachelor in Psychology. How hard would it be to find a job after getting my bachelor and maybe even my master in Psychology. I know it pays very well but im really not sure what to do yet, i also really like molecular biology even tho it feels like it will be harder and it might even be harder to get a good job with good pay from it, But Psychology just seems to be the smart plan if I wanna live a more comfortable life and I really like it too.

Hi everyone, i'm currently a 2008 student and want some advice for my application into ERASMUS. I want to work abroad in EU (not merely Netherkands) after graduation so whether choosing IBA is a wise choice or not? Should I apply other degrees for better career path? Honestly, Im quite better at management and soft skills than math or finance

Applications Degree equivalency

Hey guys,
I’m currently applying for a Master’s in the Netherlands with a UK BEng (Hons) in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering. Admissions told me Nuffic evaluated my UK degree as HBO level instead of WO, I thought UK bachelors degree’s are WO level, has anyone been classified the same way and what did you proceed to do, thank you.

Hi! I’m looking for the 450 *inburgering* questions. I’ve found answers on YouTube and from other people, but they never match up. Could you help me find a guide with the most reliable answers—whether in video or document format—so I can compare them with the ones I already have? Thanks!

intro week

im most likely coming for uni in the netherlands, either UvA, utrecht, VU Amsterdam or Groningen university for EBE + IBA, and I was wondering which uni's intro week is like the most accepting from people who've attended or go here, im coming for my bachelors so im nervous, im not the most social and pretty too if that makes sense. like I know its 8 months or like far away but uni makes me so anxious from right now like especially the social part bc from what ive seen on Instagram all the people seem gorgeous and extroverted. idk which uni would be the best overall or city I guess if anyone can help. (I know this is a stupid concern)

Studying psychology abroad

Hi everyone! I’m currently trying to figure out what and where i want to study after high school, but honestly, i’m feeling pretty lost right now.

My dream would be to study psychology in English abroad, and the Netherlands is currently my top choice. However, i’m worried that the tuition fees and living costs might be too expensive for me and my family.

I’ve also been considering Denmark because i have heard that university can be tuition-free for EU students, but as far as i know psychology degrees there are mostly taught in Danish which makes things more complicated.

I’ve started looking into other degrees taught in English as well, but the problem is that i’m not sure what else i’d enjoy studying. so i guess my questions are is studying in the Netherlands actually manageable financially? are there any other courses or countries i should consider looking into? if you were in a similar situation what did you do?

I’d really appreciate any advice, personal experiences or suggestions for other countries or degrees i should look into. I feel like there are so many options, but i have no idea where to start. Thank you!! :))

Applications EOR or EBE uni Maastricht??

Hi guys, I need some advice regarding programes for Bsc. I would like to start studying one of those programes next year, but I have not yet decided which one should I opt for. Im an international student, interested in both banking and asset management and to work in a bb bank / firm.

Friend of mine told me that EOR is a great thing to do, because of how it prepares you for the math part, which is helpful especially with GMAT for the future. On the other hand EBE seems to me as more suitable for what I want to do in the future.

Nevertheless I would love to do my Masters in switzerland, espcially in finance, but for me its hard to tell wether I will be eligible with EOR bsc, as there is no accounting in th beginning(Ive found there is elective in the last year course intermidiate financial accounting). Also, lets assume I would always try to have my GPA for both of them at least 9/10.

Another thing that worries me is the AI coverage. Which one should be less affected by AI? Which degree in your opinion has birghter future?

If I picked EOR, what would be my advantages/disadvantages compared to other candidates for the banking AM roles in bb? which one is more advantegous?

Since I would love to start doing internships right after 1st year in AM at smaller firm, and lets say Im at EOR, after year 1 will I have learned Excel and programming skills or do I have to self learn them for my internship?

Ultimately, what would be your advice for me, with goals to work in bb asset management or banking, doing masters in finance in switzerland, should I therefore study as traditionally economics or should I go for econometrics and operations research?

Help How should a cv be done for when applying to a program?

Hi! So i was filling out the application form for a bachelor degree at tue, when i saw that a cv must be uploaded for the application to be submitted. Firstly, does the aspect of the cv matter? What i mean by this is if it has to look and feel like one for a job interview. Secondly, do cvs matter when applying to a dutch uni? The program does not have an entrance exam or a stated number of available spots, so im guessing the cv combined with grades define your chances? My grades are high, but i dont really have that many extracurricular, and the ones i have are in design and organisation domains rather than math and technical stuff. Students of tue, or any other dutch uni, could you please help me out? Thanks in advance!
