I said is there gas in the CCCCCAARRRR???

Permit me a “what if” idea: I’ve been listening recently to a lot of music by Traffic. It occurred to me that in an imaginary world I could hear Steely Dan doing a collection of Traffic songs. I’m curious what other bands folks could imagine being covered by Dan?

This isn't based on like how technically perfect they are, it's just based on what I enjoyed most. And know this I very close, I've only listened to 50 songs of steely dan and these stood out to me the most.

HM. Black Friday, peg, josie, 19, your gold teeth, bad sneakers, my old school, show biz kids, green earrings, pretzel logic, midnight cruiser, Kings, dirty work, do it again, reelin' in the years, deacon blues, FM.

1. Doctor wu

2. Black cow

3. The fez (Idk I find It catchy)

4. Pearl of the quarter (voulez vous)

5. Kid charlemange

NOTE: I think this aort of just turned into me naming steely dan songs I like in hope someone else will comment, cause most of these are interchangeable, and I can't really decide a definitive top 5, but these are the ones I like right now, probably change soon.

Also any other suggestions would be appreciated whether it's other steely dan songs or bands like them. I'm 17 and none of my friends are into them, so it is difficult for me trying to find anyone as good and similiar

Here I’ve got a few candidates:
“Can that rumble and Avogadro’s number”-Let George Do It
“Don’t chew on that power cable son”-Kulee Baba
“You better step back son. Give the man some whacking space”-Godwhacker
“I’m sizzling like an isotope”-Almost Gothic

Feel free to share some of your own entries!

I just love it. It’s the one Steely Dan song I always come back to no matter what mood I‘m in.

At its core I see it as a pop song with rock and jazz elements. It has a beat anyone can dance to but also dense harmonies and some awesome changes/turnarounds.

I love seeing more people appreciating it on social media recently too, which I think speaks to its staying power.

EDIT: This is an old interview republished this week. Perhaps it is worth leaving up for those who hadn't see it previously.

Looks like this was published yesterday. Stumbled on it today and didn't see it posted here yet.

Still reading, but figured y'all would want to see it.

So far I agree with the author about his awkward discomfort, and disagree about his chisled handsome face.

Enjoy.

Years ago Feels So Good, the screen printed shirt company out of Austin Texas created this image that was screen printed and sold t-shirts using this design. It's a parody of the Black Flag Jealous Against record. Since then there are tons of bootleg versions of the shirt using really crappy digital printing methods. Does anyone know where I can get an original or a screen printed version of the shirt? I missed one on Mecari a few years ago and it's haunted me ever since. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been listening to these two live albums a lot lately, but I find a hard time picking which of these I like more!!

I think I lean towards Reelin in the Years, this version sounds so fucking magical.

Which one would you guys pick?

Any insight into the significance of the name Dakine to Donald?

Just found this guy sk8rxr (Kevin Paul Barker) who always plays Steely Dan Songs during his Reels throwing things around like Boomerangs.

So listening to the Bodhisattva intro, and knowing the sardonic nature of the Dan, am I hearing SARCASTIC handclaps in the seconds leading up to the opening verse? As in, sort of mocking the crowd “enlightened” by the Indian eastern trend who were listening to shallow doo wop music a few years before? Am I just high and way overthinking this? I’d like to hear your thoughts!

Been listening to Alive in America on repeat and can’t help but hear a guitar go “AAAHHH” ala Godwhacker every now and again. To me the guitar tone is unmistakable. Do you hear it too?

Yesterday I noticed I couldn't find this awesome cover (for the uninitiated) anymore on Spotify. Just found out that the track is actually still there (https://open.spotify.com/track/5jwJhH679phtU7KtBO8VND) but not playable anymore. Anyone got any info?

Hey guys, just wondering if there’s any Dan fans in Dublin? Me and a few friends of mine have put together a steely Dan tribute band and we’re playing our first show this Saturday! We’re called the second arrangement and can be found on Instagram. Thanks!!

Hehe! Forgot about it and am listening to this album for some reason this afternoon.
