Raspberry pi 4 mouse control

I have been struggling to get the steam controller to function with the raspberry pi 4. Ultimately I want to use the controller as a mouse and keyboard for media browsing. Youtube and downloaded videos, yarr...

Getting steam to open just isn't happening, went down that road. Ultimately I'm okay with lizard mode. But, I can't get any inputs to move the mouse. Even the triggers for clicking rarely register wirelessly via puck, but will be flawless clicks when plugged directly in with the cable. Moving the mouse never happens.

Been down the rabbit hole of antimicrox, sc-controller, ynsta/steamcontroller... I'm burned out and need some guidance. Maybe someone can help.
