Suggestion Please Valve! Good Guy Nick!

Post image

They removed the YouTube
achievements from Team Fortress 2 so people can actually 100% the game now.
I'm asking Valve to please look at Good Guy Nick and either remove it or change it so it can be attainable!

Basically they left the possibilities open for future free weekend events for L4D2, for TF2 replay achievements Valve had two options: either change the unlock condition(they were relying on an old retired YouTube API feature) or just flag them as hidden. Latter option was chosen likely because it required less work.

Yeah true, I’m all for free weekends, but the only reason there was one 2 years ago was for a charity event that needed it, otherwise there could have been a much longer time since the last free weekend.

There was one 2 years ago to celebrate L4D2's 15 year anniversary 15th November, 2024. The Charity thing was 4 years ago in 23rd July, 2022, for the all achievment charity run.

I have the opposite, 1/101 with Good Guy Nick as my only L4D2 achievement

Today what wouldn't be possible, you would also get Gnome Alone right at the start. However, one thing doesn't stick even if you got it a long time ago - why do you have an achievement for helping other survive a campaign but no achievement for surviving a campaign? For me they both popped at the same time (in 2024).

I actually have no idea and have been thinking about it myself. Steam says I unlocked it 28 May 2018. Maybe it was because I didn't own the game myself and only joined for the free weekend? And that restricted the other achievement somehow?

Makes sense I guess, and the unlock conditions might have changed between 2018 and 2024, too. I played the campaign and at the end two people (me and one other player) got the GGN achievement, while the other two didn't - I assumed these two were free weekend players, but if you say you got it as a free player, then that at least had changed.

I checked my purchase history and I bought the game back in 2017, so that was not it since I owned the game when I got the achievement. That said it aligns more with your theory for why the other 2 you played with didn't get the achievement

Do all campaigns have a "survive the campaign" achievements? If not I guess I just played one of the ones that did not have one. Or I also read that if you joined in the middle of a game and wasn't there from the start, you could still unlock Good Guy Nick but not the regular one

I had the Good Guy Nick achievement accidentally while playing a game on April 23rd 2020 Vietnam time

I do not use it "just to get any achievement", but in these cases SAM Rewritten is GOAT.

I did my part, if the game is buggy and/or has an achievement that is impossible to achieve, then I really don't care, SAM is literally my first and immediate option.

It's not my fault that the developers suck (in a case where the game has major bugs and make it impossible to get the achievement) or put multiplayer-dependant achievements on a game that is not 100% multiplayer like Valorant, CS:GO, etc

The achievement actually becomes obtainable every so often, primarily on an anniversary milestone like the 20th anniversary will definitely have a free weekend since the 15th anniversary had one.

Basically you have to mark your calendar and wait honestly.

Back in 2011, TF2 added a replay system where you could save a gameplay clip then upload it to Youtube. There were four achievements tied to this (for getting 100, 1,000 (this one also gave a hat), 10,000, and 100,000 views).

Due to changes with Youtube’s API over the years, the systems pinging the game to update view counts broke and thus the achievements are no longer obtainable.

Damn, it's really been 2 years since the last free weekend.

If there's ever another one, I'll definitely be helping out again.

I appreciate it.

Launch unofficial servers with prize box enabled. They give you random achievements unlocked. Or use SAM.

What are these two achievements you are talking about?

If it's unobtainable now then use Steam Achievement Manger if you really want it.

That's awesome. Earlier I was questioning why is that achievement there, Valve didn't fix it...Until, now.🥰

SAM is the way

In this case I'd also use SAM. I mean it's literally not possible otherwise I guess

use SAM. ik its not a solution, but if it's unattainable, you can use that.

but i also understand that it doesn't feel satisfying.

Ngl, I'd just use Sam on that

if you use SAM then there is no difference between you and those who got all achievements illegitimately, someone who has missing bugged achievement on his profile is more impressive than a sus account with bugged achievements unlocked.

Also, Vlave needs to stop SAM and break it somehow, it invalidate all the work legitimate players do.
