Question / Discussion Possible "Ugly" type ship

For past week I have been thinking about possible "Ugly" made out of VAAT and ARC-170. I have no art and modeling talent so I cant really make a graphic of what exactly I have in mind.

In my mind it would be a VAAT with engines and wings from ARC-170 attached to it from the top so sort of LAAT "at home".

I wonder if in theory ship like that would be hyperspace capable if sealed from vaccum of space correctly. Hope I inspire someone to create poor mans LAAT in some way

Both are heavy corvettes/light frigates.

If you wish to be pedantic, the Vigil is a dark frigate, because the Empire is controlled by a Dark Lord of the Sith. Bravo George Lucas you've done it again

Question / Discussion Opinion on the Scarab-class Fighter

Not gonna lie. Finding screenshots for this thing were tough. Also, Wookiepedia states they were flown by a droid brain, but I'm pretty sure I see a cockpit right there and in games like Star Wars Starfighter they were being flown by B1s as you could literally intercept their transmissions during battle (unlike the Vulture droids, which you wouldn't hear from).

That being said, I thought they were neat. I feel like they make sense in terms of anti-piracy defense for the Trade Federation. Wouldn't have made any sense in the CIS arsenal as they weren't cost effective and other starfighters could fill similar roles. But they make perfect sense for pre-CIS Trade Federation.

Apparently a Lucrehulk could carry 1500. Using that logic, how many were on the Lucrehulks alone, would you say?

Bad Batch Season 2 episode 6. They definitely knew what they were doing making this look just like a Hapan battle dragon! I love when they do little nods like this. It is also possible that I am delusional but I swear I’m not crazy.

Question / Discussion How do you reconcile the Gladiator’s weird armaments?

So, I was looking at the Legends Gladiator-class page, and the armament is given as 12 dual light turbolasers, 10 medium laser cannons, 10 proton torpedo or assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors. Simple, right?

Well… not so much. The first weird thing is that its missile loadout is 300 medium concussion missiles. Not proton torpedoes or assault concussion missiles, regular concussion missiles. To the best of my knowledge, assault and heavy concussion missiles seem synonymous with each other, so apparently the Gladiator carries 300 lesser-grade missiles despite having 10 launchers for the stronger-grade concussion missiles or proton torpedoes.

Then, there’s weirdness #2: the Gladiator I and II subclasses. Now, you’d think that the Gladiator I would be the standard Gladiator armament, and the Gladiator II is a slight variation. You’d be forgiven for thinking that. You’d also be wrong. The armaments are as follows:

Gladiator I: 6 dual light turbolaser batteries, 3 medium laser cannon batteries, 2 proton torpedo or medium concussion missile launcher batteries w/ 300 medium concussion missiles (hey, the missile mismatch problem has been solved!), and 3 medium tractor beam batteries.
Gladiator II: ? (Seriously, who the fuck knows. All we know is better anti-starfighter capabilities and longer range guns).

Needless to say, that’s all very confusing. And then, I looked at the Canon armament:

Gladiator and Gladiator I: 12 dual light turbolasers, 10 medium laser cannons, 10 assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors (In other words, the same as the Legends base Gladiator without the proton torpedo launchers option).
Gladiator II: ? (Doesn’t appear to exist in Canon)

Now, to try and resolve this, I looked at a couple of fan sources. Star Wars Starship Expansion 3rd Edition for d6 gives the following:

Gladiator I: 12 dual light turbolaser batteries, 10 dual medium laser cannons, 10 medium concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors.
Gladiator II: dual medium laser cannons upgraded to quads.

So the dual light turbolasers are now batteries, the medium laser cannons are now duals or quads, and there are 300 concussion missiles per launcher.

Meanwhile, over at Jedi vs Sith, you have:

Gladiator I: the basic Legends Gladiator and Canon Gladiator/Gladiator I.
Gladiator II: 4 dual medium turbolasers, 8 dual light turbolasers, 20 medium laser cannons, 10 assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors.

So here, the Gladiator II upgrades 4 dual light turbolasers to mediums and adds 10 more medium laser cannons.

So basically, the overall armament looks like this:

Base Gladiator: 12 dual light turbolasers, 10 medium laser cannons, 10 proton torpedo or assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors or 12 dual light turbolasers, 10 medium laser cannons, 10 assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors.

Gladiator I: 6 dual light turbolaser batteries, 3 medium laser cannon batteries, 2 proton torpedo or medium concussion missile launcher batteries, and 3 medium tractor beam batteries or 12 dual light turbolasers, 10 medium laser cannons, 10 assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors or 12 dual light turbolaser batteries, 10 dual medium laser cannons, 10 medium concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors.

Gladiator II: 12 dual light turbolaser batteries, 10 quad medium laser cannons, 10 medium concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors or 4 dual medium turbolasers, 8 dual light turbolasers, 20 medium laser cannons, 10 assault concussion missile launchers, and 8 medium tractor beam projectors.

Needless to say, I’ve got no idea what to do about this.

Fleet Building NRDF Redone

The final addition to my six-part series on the main core factions Navies. As always I'd like to stress that this is does contain Fanon, and I have deliberately chosen to remove or add some ships even when canon says otherwise for the sake of what I view as a streamlined and improved lore. This isn’t canon, please don’t take it as such, but I still hope you enjoy it.

For this post I have to use a lot more Fanon than in other posts, as the sequel-era New Republic navy is unfortunately very sparse on details. Where possible I have used official Wookieepedia links but some ships you might have to use your imagination for when viewing them. The rough timeline for when this is set is just before The Force Awakens.

Battlecruisers

  • MC85-class Battlecarrier
    • The largest mainline ship in the NRDF. The MC85 is a battle carrier, meant to transport large numbers of starfighters into battle, and then stay in the centre of a formation to soak up attacks with its powerful deflector shields whilst firing high powered turbolasers and proton torpedos. Holds almost 800 starfighters, and are generally the flagships of any fleet they’re present in.
  • Starhawk Mark 2-class Battleship
    • A heavy battleship, whilst the original run of this series were built from wrecked Imperial star destroyers Rendili Stardrive have since designed and built the Mark 2 completely from the ground up. Collaborated with designers from KDY. They retain their predecessors brawling focus, with large banks of heavy turbolasers, ion cannons, and torpedo launchers. Also have 72 Starfighters, split into two wings of 36 craft each.

Star Destroyer

  • MC90-class Star Defender
    • A frontline warship, the MC90 improves on lessons learnt from the MC80b in building warships. Now able to better accommodate non-calamari crew members. They’re thinner than an ISD, the ship they were designed in relation to, but are slightly longer and as well cut out on much of the ISD’s ground-support capabilities. They have a complement of 108 starfighters, three Rebels Wings, and as well bring with them 6 gunships.
  • Nebula-class Star Destroyer
    • A light but powerful warship, being built in the Hosnian systems Republic Shipyards as part of the NRDF’s fleet modernisation programs. Built as a modern new form of star destroyer, with minimal troop capacity in favour of increased power to weapons and engines. In combat they’re expected to use their turbolasers to quickly eliminate any picket ships present in the battle, allowing their heavy-bomber squadrons and those of the Endurance-class to freely attack larger warships. Carry 60 starfighters of their own.
  • Endurance-class Fleet Carrier
    • Built from the same design program as the Nebula, intended to be its complimentary piece in battle. Trade out guns and reactors for carrying space, holding 180 starfighters split into five Rebel Wings, three of which generally made up of bombers.

Heavy Cruiser

  • Assault Frigate Mark 3
    • An improvement on the Mark 2 version. Fast and well armed, but good for very little but fleet battles. Carries no starfighters and only a token force of troops meant to protect it from boarding actions. Best used as a mobile weapons platform, supporting other ships.
  • Majestic-class Heavy Cruiser
    • A powerful cruiser, coming out of Republic Shipyards alongside the larger Nebula and Endurance-class’s. Feature impressive long-range firepower, and a complement of 60 starfighters.
  • Defender-class Cruiser
    • From the Corellian Engineering Corporation, the Defender-class is long but thin, cigar shaped, and is an excellent multi-role vessel that can be deployed alone or in numbers. Production started in the early days of the New Republic to help police piracy-prone areas of the galaxy. Have a complement of 72 Starfighters.

Cruiser

  • Quasar Fire III-class Cruiser-Carrier
    • The next iteration of SoroSuubs line of carriers. Slightly larger than its predecessors as SoruSuub knows that they’re now being expected to store larger starfighters than the minimalist TIE-series. Still, excellent choices for transporting squadrons across the galaxy and can greatly extend the reach of the NRDF. Can serve as command ships of small flotillas.
  • MC60-class Cruiser
    • A Mon Calamari Shipyards cruiser, shaped like a long but flat triangle. Good all-round ship, with a mix of both starfighter carrying capacity as well as guns.
  • Vindicator-class Fleet Carrier)
    • Cheap boxy ship meant to carry starfighters and not much else. Easily mass produced and deployed by the New Republic. Built by the Corellian Engineering Corporation

Frigate

  • Kraak-class Frigate
    • Built by the Damorian Manufacturing Corporation, the Kraak-class is a technological improvement on their earlier Carrack design, though this time built to serve in the frigate role instead. It is fast enough to keep pace with starfighters but also well armed, a capable multi-role vessel.
  • MC30d-class Attack Frigate
    • Upgrade on the MC30c. A fast and nimble frigate meant to dart through enemy lines to deliver some damage before quickly leaving again.
  • Nebulon C-class Escort Frigate
    • A Kuati design, a further improvement on the B line. Larger than their predecessors, large enough to fit in the cruiser role, but doctrinal usage see’s them placed in this category. They have space for single Rebel Wing of Starfighters, three squadrons, as well as a number of shuttles. They have performed well in the inter-war years in various navies, helping combat pirates and various insurgent factions of the Imperial Continuity Front.

Corvette

  • DP40-class Corvette
    • A CEC product, an improved version of the earlier DP20. The ’40-series are respectable post-GCW warships, and can be found in numbers all across the galaxy, forming the baseline for what many other designers compare their ships against.
  • Raider-class Corvette
    • Though post-war agreements saw bans placed on the production and sale of many so called “Imperial Legacy equipment”, ships or technologies heavily associated with the Empire such as Stormtroopers or the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, the Raider Corvette was a respected and versatile enough platform that it snuck under these new regulations and were allowed to be continued to be built by KDY. They are bought by planetary navies all across the galaxy, including the New Republic Defence Fleet itself, where they have come to be a valued unit.

Gunships:

  • B-Wing Mark II
    • Similar design to the original B-wing but much larger and better armed. Now has a crew of three, a rear turret, and the bottom ion cannon has been replaced for a single miniaturised light turbolaser. Proton torpedos have also been replaced for much heavier versions. Capable of destroying pirate corvettes singlehandedly, and are often deployed to Federal outposts to help patrol and guard far-off sectors.

Notes: I outlined at the start of the post that this isn’t perfect, and in truth this was the hardest post to make due to the gaping holes in a lot of the ship categories. But I'm mostly happy with what I've created so far.

This is the last post on the Naval sections of the big six factions. I have heard some interest from some people early on about doing a starfighter-focused series, which could happen, but I do also have ideas for some other Fanon sequel-era navies such as the Hapes Consortium, Corellian Alliance, Pantoran Assembly, and New Separatist Union. If people are interested in those then I could make posts addressing those topics as well, but I don’t want to pollute the sub with content no one is interested in. Finally, I have background ideas for fleet campaigns that, once I figure out how to make decent quality depictions of, but that could become a thing as well.

Games Empire at War Remake 4.0 Clone Wars Holdouts Sub Mod Unit Showcase Endurance Class Star Destroyer

Thumbnail
youtu.be
8 Upvotes

The Endurance Class Star Destroyer comes with one of the most varied garrisons out of all the Rebel Alliance Capital Ships, only surpassed by their Super Unit, the Viscount. (For the mods Empire at War Remake 4.0 and Clone Wars Holdouts)

Though this capital ship has similar shields and armor to the Nebula Class Star Defender, the Endurance Class sacrifices many of its weapon hardpoints in favor of housing the fighters, bombers, and gunships stored within. Inside its hangars are X-Wings and E-Wings to take on enemy fighters, K-Wing Gunships to provide fire support from behind friendly lines, and Y-Wing bombers to deal direct damage to enemy larger vessels such as Frigates and Capital Ships. The Endurance's special ability to Overcharge Primary Battery allows this ship to temporary increase the rate of fire for its remaining weaponry.

For my opinion on how to best use this ship in a fleet composition, I'd substitute this ship for the Nebula, and use the remaining population points to have even more fighters, gunships, and bombers, than what the Endurance would bring. I'm mostly making this decision because the Endurance is a Carrier, that carries a number of smaller craft, but cannot support them through repair abilities or any other buffs. And since it is practically just a watered down version of the Nebula to make room for its garrisons, I'd rather just bring the Nebulas and manually accompany them with my own fighters, gunships, and bombers.

Informative The TIE/rb, ‘Brute’, is kind of overlooked

Post image
289 Upvotes

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been working on some writing projects in the ‘universe’ of the Order of Battle series by u/Storytellerrrr, notably concerning the first few months of the Warlord Era, immediately following the fallout of the Battle of Endor.

Forming a full fleet and army for my OoB character, Krosa Lim, following Endor had led me to the TIE Brute, a variant of the TIE line introduced in the Solo movie that I feel actually has a place in the Imperial Starfleet, and isn’t just another throwaway design made to help line a moff’s pockets.

The unique factor of the TIE Brute comes in the form of its two heavy laser cannons, mounted on the port-side of the cockpit. These miniature pod housed what was essentially the TIE fighter equivalent of an astromech, the MGK-300, an integrated droid brain that filled similar roles to that of an astromech in something like an X-Wing. Alongside having notably stronger armor than a typical TIE, the TIE Brute was essentially the opposite of the TIE Interceptor in its relation to the stock TIE Fighter.

Given the power of the weaponry, and lower speed and heavier armor, this ship could definitely fill two different roles effectively, ones that normal TIE Fighters and TIE Bombers would either not be ideal for, or simply not capable of taking part in.

First, the power behind the cannons would make the TIE Brute a far better starfighter to send after the souped-up light freighters the Rebellion oh so adored, such as the Falcon and Ghost.

Second, the TIE Brute would in my opinion be a great contender for a dedicated close air support starfighter. Normal TIE Fighters are too flimsy and, generally speaking, weakly armed to perform such a task, while the TIE Bomber is too cumbersome and large a target, and it’s very nature of being a bomber makes it far from ideal for being a CAS support fighter. The TIE Brute, meanwhile, retains much of the maneuverability of the standard TIE Fighter, while also being armored enough to shrug off some flak, and heavily armed enough to not threaten friendlies on the ground during a CAS run, but still to effectively damage/destroy enemy fortifications/vehicles, unlike the TIE Bomber.

Were the TIE Brute equipped with a hyperdrive, I believe they would make for at least mildly effective strike fighters, such as the X-Wings sent to attack the research instillations on Eadu.

Regardless, I’d like to hear your thoughts on the TIE Brute. Does it have a proper place in the Imperial Starfleet, or does it solely exist to help an Imperial Moff afford his 7th vacation home?

Thanks for coming to my Ewok Talk.

How useful do ya’ll think this beauty would be in space combat?

It’s pretty heavily armed with a heavy laser cannon, 2 dual medium laser cannons, 2 twin light laser turrets, and 14 missiles/torpedoes. It should make a pretty nasty heavy bomber.

Core of the division IRPC, the name is funny when it is spoken out of panic or fear by any enemies that are being glassed, under Admiral Schuttler the large amount of the fleet is made by either stolen or robbed ships, Âżwhy? Because in times like this you can't be eating the higher guy's boots for some second hand ship.

COMPOSITION:

1 Novator-Class Mobile Dockyard ⊛ (stolen before being cataloged and blamed on the rebels)

1 docked Altor-Class Fleet Support Ship (stolen from a already assaulted convoy)

2 Imperial-I Class Star Destroyers

1 Victory-II Class Star Destroyers

2 Gladiator-Class Frigate

4 Imperial I-Class Frigate

1 Victory II-Class Frigate (robbed from an already capitulated imperial fleet)

4 Tartan-Class Patrol Cruiser
