General-Solo-Discussion Simple House Rules for Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop Economy
Like many players, I love the cozy journaling vibe of Fox Curio's Floating Bookshop, but found the Rules-as-Written economy disconnect frustrating (having a busy day with 10 customer cards only to roll low on the abstract earnings table).
I wanted a house rule that ties customer cards directly to sales without adding complex spreadsheet math, while still keeping a fun element of luck. Here is the simple system I came up with:
House Rule: The "River Economy"
Core Principle: 1 Book Sold = 1 Coin Earned
1. Calculate Daily Potential (Add up drawn cards)
- Number Cards (2–10 & Ace): 5 books / coins
- Face Cards (Jack, Queen, King): 10 books / coins
(Example: Drawing 9 number cards + 1 King = 45 + 10 = 55 potential books/coins)
2. Roll the Daily Outcome Die (1x D6)
- 1–2 (Slow / Browsing Day): Move decimal point 1 place left (round up). (e.g., 55 becomes 6 books / 6 coins)
- 3–4 (Solid Day): Keep value as is (1:1). (e.g., 55 stays 55 books / 55 coins)
- 5–6 (Bestseller Day): Double the value! (e.g., 55 becomes 110 books / 110 coins)
Why this works well for me
- Logical Scaling: High-foot-traffic days create higher earning potential.
- Narrative Synergy: A low roll means folks came in just to chat, stay warm, or browse. A high roll means bulk orders or expensive collectors' items sold!
- Quick & Cozy: Takes less than 10 seconds to calculate at day's end.
Hope this helps anyone looking for a balanced economy fix!
