Discussion What do you do while waiting for the agent to finish?

Everyone for the most part is using agents to code. Enter a prompt, wait 1 - 30+ minutes for the agent to say they are done.

What do you do while waiting? I find myself wondering off and then its difficult to focus again.
I think its just the monotony of it

Release Wedge: a free, open-source file shelf for Windows that slides out of the screen edge while you drag (like Yoink/Dropover on Mac)

Thumbnail gallery
35 Upvotes

On Mac there are shelf apps like Yoink and Dropover for parking files mid-task. I couldn't find one I liked on Windows, so I built Wedge.

How it works

- Start dragging a file (from File Explorer, the desktop or a browser) and colored shelf tabs slide out of the right edge of the screen. Drop it on one and keep working.

- Click a tab and the shelf opens as a drawer. Drag the file straight into any app: an email, a chat, an upload form.

- Files stay where they are on disk. Wedge only keeps a reference.

Also

- Real previews, and search inside PDF, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files

- A Pocket: gather files from different folders, then drag them all out at once

- Right-click > Add to Wedge in File Explorer, Ctrl+V, or send from your phone with a QR code

- Shared shelves backed by a Google Drive, OneDrive or Dropbox folder

- Temporary shelves that clear themselves, plus notes, tags and reminders

- Ctrl+Shift+Space opens a drawer from anywhere; the tabs hide for full-screen games and videos

Details

- Free and open source (MIT), Windows 10 and 11

- 5 MB installer (Tauri + Rust, uses the WebView2 that comes with Windows), no CPU use while idle

- No account, no telemetry; updates come from GitHub Releases and are signature-checked

- Not code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may warn the first time (More info > Run anyway)

Source and downloads: https://github.com/Regncreative/Wedge

Feedback is very welcome, especially if you've used a shelf app before and something here feels missing or in the way.

Discussion Twitch Live Prompting Software Development?

It's kind of a longshot idea because it requires infrastructure and a lot of constraints, but it does at least sound feasible.

It would basically be a crowd-prompted application: Twitch vibe-codes an app! Can we beat reverse-engineered Photoshop??

So the novel idea here is crowd-prompting.

I was thinking you might start with a basic Paint application and see where it goes from there, but the overall architecture would require some real maestros to implement without it getting out of hand.

Looking for software Looking for CorelDRAW open-source alternative

I stumbled across Artcraft on github and I downloaded the apps. The thing is, I'm really used to making my projects on CorelDRAW and I wanted to know if there is an open-source alternative that is just like Corel, like Artcraft does for Adobe and many others.

Release Looking for a modern, open-source alternative to PuTTY? SSH Pilot now supports Linux, macOS and Windows

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

This is a free, cross-platform desktop SSH/SFTP manager with integrated terminal and dual-pane file manager.

Although I started this as a hobby project, it now has many features to make life easier for sysadmins, homelabbers or anyone managing a few machines remotely. (key transfer, SCP, remote Docker container management, server metrics, etc).

AI assistance is heavily used for development so please skip if that's not your thing. The app is extensively tested though and has been well-maintained for over a year now, with over 1000 Github stars, so there is already a small but active community around it.

Until recently the app ran on Linux and macOS, but now it supports Windows too.

Feedback and thoughts are always welcome.

Self-Promotion Wednesdays AccSwap - free, open-source account switcher for game launchers (Steam,Epic and more)

• Upvotes

I built a small Windows app for a problem I had: sharing my PC and

jumping between game launcher accounts meant logging out, typing

passwords, waiting for 2FA codes... every single time.

AccSwap saves each account's login session locally, so switching is one

click:

• Works with Steam and Epic Games, plus a declarative catalog for other

launchers (Battle.net-style paths, registry keys)

• Lives in the system tray - switch accounts with Ctrl+Alt+G without

opening anything

• 100% local: no servers, no accounts, no telemetry. Your sessions never

leave your PC

• Optional password protection (encrypted snapshots) and export/import to

move accounts between machines

• Portable exe (~750 KB), self-updates from GitHub Releases, free and

MIT-licensed

How it works: it snapshots the launcher's session files, closes the

launcher, restores the other account's files and relaunches it. Your

passwords are never stored - the login session is.

Download (Windows 10/11):

https://github.com/fredericjasmin/AccSwap/releases/latest Source & docs:

https://github.com/fredericjasmin/AccSwap

Happy to answer questions and take feature requests - especially for

which launchers to support next.

Release I built a free app that replaces the online PDF, image and video converters, and runs offline

• Upvotes

I kept uploading passports and leases to random sites just to compress them, so I built one app for it. It runs on Mac, Windows and Linux.

Option Space opens a command bar. Drop a file or type "under 50 kb" and it picks the tool: PDF merge, split, compress, OCR, image compress and resize to an exact KB, background removal, video and audio trim and convert, passport photos. v0.2 adds file search as you type and a disk map that shows what's eating your space.

Native (Rust, GPUI), nothing uploaded, MIT or Apache-2.0. It's an unsigned beta, so macOS and Windows ask once on first open.

Feedback very welcome: https://github.com/anzal1/panoply

Release Looper: A New FOSS Music Player for Windows

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

A few months a go i got into the rabbit hole of FOSS Windows music players and came out not satisfied with what i found. But in that search i found a good looking player https://github.com/sthrnilshaaa/looper but it only had support for android and Linux.

So, i decided to fork it and add a bunch of new features and design it mainly for the desktop in mind. And So here is the result https://github.com/mikiyasmechalo/looper, A highly customizable music player for the desktop.

Although it technically has Linux support i haven't touched the Linux part since i don't use Linux. This is the first release so i have given it the beta tag to avoid any confusion, if you have any problems feel free to open an issue. Tnx.

Discussion I built a macOS Open Source app that turns YouTube videos into readable transcripts and PDFs. No cloud, no API keys

Thumbnail github.com
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I made YtToPdf, a native macOS app that takes a YouTube link and gives you a clean, readable transcript you can export as a PDF, TXT, Markdown or SRT.

GitHub: https://github.com/MarinoBaric/YtToPdf

How it works

- Uses the video's own captions when they exist (manual first, auto second) and cleans them up into real sentences and paragraphs. No more repeated rolling-caption fragments or [Music] tags.

- If a video has no captions, it downloads just the audio and transcribes it locally with whisper.cpp.

- Everything runs on your Mac. No account, no analytics, no API keys, no subscription.

Things I'm proud of

- PDF export with an editorial layout, clickable timestamps and page headers.

- A "Speech Fingerprint" on every PDF: a pattern generated from when words are spoken across the video, so no two documents look the same.

- Searchable history, so you can reopen old transcripts instantly.

Tech: Swift 6, SwiftUI with Liquid Glass, SwiftData, Core Text for the PDF layout, plus yt-dlp, FFmpeg and whisper.cpp under the hood.

Heads up: it's source-only for now (not notarized), so you build it yourself with Xcode. It needs macOS 27 and an Apple silicon Mac. There's an install script that makes it pretty quick.

I'd really like your feedback:

- Would you actually use something like this? What for?

- Anything you'd add or change, in the app or the PDF design?

- Is building from source a dealbreaker, or is it fine for a tool like this?

MIT licensed, issues and PRs welcome. Thanks for checking it out!

Release I rewrote Taskbar Groups for Windows 11: pin a group of apps to the taskbar as one icon (free, open source)

Post image
24 Upvotes
I wanted my shortcuts packed into a single taskbar button. I looked first: something existed, but it still had the Windows 10 look, it was awkward to use and nobody was maintaining it. So I rewrote it in WPF and .NET 10 with the Windows 11 look.

What it does:
- Pin a group to the taskbar. Click it, or just rest the cursor on it, and a panel with real Windows 11 glass shows every app in the group.
- The panel can be a grid, a horizontal row, a vertical column or a list, in three icon sizes.
- Add any installed app, desktop or Microsoft Store, from one searchable list with the right icons.
- Use an image, a colour emoji or the group's own apps as its icon.
- Apps, folders and even other groups in the same group; right-click a pinned group to open them all.
- Rename an app, give it arguments or run it as administrator.
- Import your groups from Taskbar Groups or AppGroup, export your own to a file.
- Light or dark, English or Spanish, following Windows or picked in the app.
- Installs per user, no admin rights. No account, no telemetry: the only network request is the update check against GitHub.

Download: https://github.com/Mun1to/TaskbarGroupsFluent/releases/latest
Website: https://tbgf.munito.dev
Source (MIT): https://github.com/Mun1to/TaskbarGroupsFluent

I am actively developing it (19 versions since June), so let me know what’s missing and I’ll include it in the next one.

Looking for software Turn your existing API into an authenticated MCP server with one pasted prompt

Explainer video: https://www.uivoid.app/uivoid-demo.mp4
Site: https://www.uivoid.app/
Repo: https://github.com/corrideluca/uivoid-cli

A few months ago I had the idea of building something like Vercel, but for MCP servers. Vercel is perfect for LLMs: it has free hosting and a CLI, so almost anyone, even without a technical background, can deploy and host a landing page.

I wanted to get that same feeling with this project: just throw a prompt at your LLM and it will build a hosted MCP server for your app, with a domain and authentication, pretty quickly.

This could work for admin panels or even customer-facing apps.

  • If you already have a project, you choose which endpoints to expose. Each one becomes a scoped tool: read, write or destructive (destructive is off by default).
  • Auth through OAuth (it can forward your users' own tokens to your API) or scoped API keys.
  • Every call is audit-logged
  • Your API stays where it is; the gateway is hosted at <project>.uivoid.app/mcp. Free.

Also, if you don't have a project and want to create an admin panel or a small backoffice, it hosts databases for free too. You can have the whole project there without needing a UI, because your LLM can create the UI on demand.

I built it, so I'd love some feedback!

Looking for software What is the best video transcription software if all I need is subtitles, not a full editor?

I make short training videos for my team at work, about 20 minutes each. All I need is a clean transcript and an SRT file.

I don't want to learn Premiere or DaVinci just for captions. Fixing words seems easy in most tools, and fixing timing is a different story as well.

Some of my source files are 2GB or more, so I'd also like to know if a tool takes the video as is, or if I have to pull the audio out and split it first.

Which tools have a decent screen for correcting text? And do you still need a separate subtitle editor?

Release PC HW Monitor, an Android app that turns your phone into a live PC dashboard, is now in Google Play closed beta (update to my earlier post)

A while back I posted PC HW Monitor in this sub and it got 29k views. A lot has changed since: it's now in closed testing on Google Play, and I'm opening the beta to anyone who wants in.

**What it is**

PC HW Monitor is an Android app that turns your phone into a live dashboard for your PC. It shows:

- CPU, GPU, RAM, disk and FPS in real time

- Multi-server support, QR code pairing, token auth

- Optional TLS with certificate pinning

- 9 color themes, custom backgrounds, glassmorphism

- On-device history charts

- Fully open source (AGPL-3.0): https://github.com/Xeakaes/PcHWmonitor

No account, no telemetry. The phone talks straight to your PC on your LAN, or through an optional Cloudflare tunnel when you're away from home. There's also a `--simulate` mode if you want to try the app without a server.

**What you need**

A small server running on your PC (FastAPI, with LibreHardwareMonitor, NvML and PresentMon embedded). Windows only for now. Grab `PcHwMonitor.exe` from the GitHub releases, run it, scan the QR code, done.

**What's new in 1.6.1**

- Fixed a crash when the app reconnected in the background

- The persistent metrics notification now works

**How to join the closed test** (both steps required, use the same Google account for both)

  1. Join the tester group: https://groups.google.com/g/pc-hw-monitor-testers
  2. Opt in on the web: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.Obscrum.pchwmonitor

After step 2, that page gives you a Google Play link to install the app. It can take a few hours after joining the group for access to kick in, so if the install link says "app not found", try again later.

One small ask: Google requires testers to stay opted in for 14 days before I can move to production, so please don't leave the test right after trying it. It really helps.

Feedback goes to GitHub issues: https://github.com/Xeakaes/PcHWmonitor/issues

The APK is also on GitHub releases if you'd rather sideload: https://github.com/Xeakaes/PcHWmonitor/releases

Looking for software Best way to use TikTok on Windows PC?

Hi everyone! I have a pretty good Windows PC, but my phone is really laggy.

I use TikTok for selling and affiliate marketing, so I'd prefer to do everything on my PC.

Is there an official or safe way to use TikTok on Windows with full mobile features? Should I use an emulator like BlueStacks, or could that risk getting my account banned?

I'm looking for the safest option. Any advice would be appreciated.
