Local Support Your Local Saturday - for match-going and local fans
Welcome to the 'Support Your Local Saturday' discussion thread!
This is a thread to talk about your local team.
This does not necessarily mean that only comments from fans going to their local that day. The spirit is a Discussion Thread for people who support their local team, and especially teams from lower or non-PL leagues - who can get drowned out in the pre-existing Daily Discussion Thread.
For now, we plan to alternate with the pre-existing Saturday Non-PL DDT, as we continue to trial the new thread.
Like that thread, we want to keep the focus to Non-PL teams, to prevent discussion being drowned out by Big 6 fans - but we will soften this slightly, in that comments of PL-supporting fans are valid, providing they are/were "at the match" on this weekend.
Rules:
- Discussion must be of your local team - whether they were you local growing up, or are your local now
- Discussion of PL teams is allowed only if you are attending the match that weekend - and hence focused on the match day experience
- Keep a high bar. This is not the DDT. If you want to troll, bait, or shit-talk like it's Football Twitter, use the DDT. Or even better - use Twitter.

But now he's at serious risk of being sacked: in the ranking of Ligue 1's best pitches, PSG finished only 4th. Translated News [NOS] Belgian strategy pays off: all of Rigaux’s decisions at Feyenoord have (so far) been spot on
nos.nlTop of the Eredivisie, victory in the Champions League. Feyenoord is currently the club to beat in the Netherlands, and so the new Belgian technical director, Dévy Rigaux, has the last laugh for the time being. All his decisions are paying off – at least for now. Another victory could be secured tonight away at Telstar (kick-off 8.00 pm).
As recently as early September, talk of a ‘transition year’ was still circulating around De Kuip. Whilst Ajax and PSV invested heavily during the transfer window, things remained quiet at Feyenoord, much to the displeasure of many fans. But Rigaux, who had already faced early criticism, had already done most of the work.
Offloading surplus players (Feyenoord had more than forty players under contract), strengthening the squad in a targeted and timely manner, and fighting to keep key players. These were the three pillars for the 38-year-old Rigaux. And the latter, in particular, is paying off handsomely.
Yes, the club’s coffers would have been considerably bolstered if Feyenoord sold Anis Hadj Moussa, Givairo Read and Gjivai Zechiël for tens of millions. Important, given the club’s financial situation. But would the club have fared so well on the pitch as well?
It is no coincidence that Como manager Cesc Fàbregas singled out Hadj Moussa on Wednesday evening following Feyenoord’s 3-2 victory. “We don’t have a game-changer like him, and that’s exactly what you need in the Champions League,” said the former Arsenal and FC Barcelona midfielder.
Against Como, Hadj Moussa was at times impossible to contain. “Anis is simply a top-class player,” concluded Zechiël. The fact that the Algerian winger stayed at Feyenoord despite interest from Saudi Arabia has proved crucial.
He could have fetched a record fee – and if he carries on like this, that’s still a possibility – but Feyenoord kept him in the Netherlands. Hadj Moussa has now played five matches, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
Read and Zechiël, too – who were not allowed to leave by Rigaux despite interest from abroad – have been excelling almost every week. Zechiël in particular, who can now call himself a Dutch international and has been awarded a significantly improved contract running until 2029.
According to Rigaux, they were not yet “at the end of their cycle at Feyenoord”. Unlike the Japanese striker Ayase Ueda, last year’s 28-year-old top scorer, who was. He has since left. Nacho Ferri, signed early in the transfer window, is well on his way to perhaps making people forget him.
Many pieces of the jigsaw are falling into place faster than expected this season in Rotterdam-Zuid. Returning manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst, the most decorated player in the club’s history, is more relaxed and charismatic than ever, supported by assistant manager Sipke Hulshoff.
There is no longer any sign of Robin van Persie’s grumpiness. A real coup for Rigaux and managing director Robert Eenhoorn.
Many signings are paying off. The aforementioned Ferri, as well as the Spaniards Mika Mármol and Javi López, are making an excellent impression. Goalkeeper Tjark Ernst is increasingly proving his worth, and Charles Vanhoutte is a key figure in midfield.
The 28-year-old Belgian joined from Nice. “In my first conversation with Devy, I asked what the team’s mentality would be like. He said he would ensure we had a top-class mentality. As a footballer and as a person, I find that very important.”
The players’ commitment to regaining possession immediately after losing the ball. “That’s the foundation,” says Van Bronckhorst. “If the mentality is right and the players are willing to fight for one another, then the game plan follows.”
It’s all good news in Rotterdam. Yet there are risks too. With the team sitting top of the table after eight Eredivisie matches, expectations amongst the supporters are rising.
“We haven’t explicitly said that we have to be in the running for the title,” said Rigaux in early September. But now that it’s mid-October and everything is going so well, it’s certainly fair enough to say so.
The depth of the squad could be a cause for concern. Compared to PSV and Ajax, Feyenoord’s bench looks less impressive. Van Bronckhorst: “I’m not worried about that, but it is important to keep everyone fit.”
Against Como, captain Luciano Valente was forced off through injury and veteran Jeremiah St. Juste was substituted after complaining of fatigue. It’s a balancing act, with matches against Real Betis, PSV and Internazionale coming up, but so far the Belgian approach has been paying off handsomely.

The president of LaLiga responds to the white club in a long tweet
Real Madrid demands the "immediate resignation of Javier Tebas" as president of LaLiga
Tebas' tweet that set Madrid on fire: "This method is reminiscent of Nazi propaganda mechanisms..."
Javier Tebas directly confronts Real Madrid after the white club asked for his resignation this afternoon. The president of LaLiga counterattacks by saying: "I have lost count of the times that, in thirteen years, the leaders of Real Madrid have asked for my resignation or tried to disqualify me". Tebas also attacks the white club over the Negreira case and reveals intimidating messages against him.
"I already know the procedure. I also remember that 'I will turn all the Real Madrid fans against you and you won't be able to walk down the street,'" Tebas writes in his long Twitter message.
Real Madrid demands the "immediate resignation of Javier Tebas" as president of LaLiga
The Real Madrid he issued a statement this Friday afternoon demanding "his immediate resignation as president of LaLiga and vice president of the Royal Federation Spanish Football" after a first tweet from Tebas in which he compared Real Madrid's communication with that of Goebbels, head of Nazi Germany's propaganda.
Message from Javier Tebas:
I have lost count of the times that, in thirteen years, the leaders of Real Madrid have asked for my resignation or tried to disqualify me: complaints to the CSD, directly or through third parties, criminal complaints... Today's, another one. What still hasn't arrived are the answers.
They confuse neutrality with independence. My position requires independence, not passivity in the face of injustice or silence in the face of the continuous, disproportionate and insulting attack by Real Madrid TV and its portaCOCES on our competition. The president of LaLiga must defend it. Also in front of the Real Madrid leaders.
LaLiga acted from the first moment in the Negreira case. Repeating that we were passive does not make it true. Let's talk about your passivity: showing up is not a permanent certificate of activity. Florentino remained for months in the management bodies of the RFEF. According to Relevo, his resignation from the Manager and that of Laporta were presented on the same day: October 30, 2023.
And at the Assembly of Committers on November 24, 2024, asked about breaking relations with Barça, he responded: "Barça and Madrid have to help each other". And he added: "Why would we be angry?". Yes, yes, not even two years ago. Get angry with FCB? No comment.
What changed? Why does this escalation coincide with Barça's break with the Super League? Did the seriousness of the events or your interests change? Where was the indignation of Real Madrid TV before?
If they are so clear that these arbitrators continue to act under the influence of Negreira, eight years after finishing the payments, what evidence do they have against each one? What individual complaints have they filed with national bodies, UEFA or FIFA? Demanding responsibility from the FCB does not prove an accusation against each referee. A video is not a substitute for clues. Putting people on the target is extremely serious and irresponsible.
Regarding the arbitration reform, progress has been made and there are still things to do. I would have liked to go faster and further. But the institutions cannot do what the Real Madrid leaders want according to their interests, their state of mind, their sporting situation or their relations with the FCB at all times. Nor do without the other actors and the support of the vast majority of the clubs. To reform is not to obey them.
My conclusion: they seek to DESTROY the national competition. What they have not achieved so far with the Super League they try with a distorted story from their media and their COCES carriers. They call it regeneration while attacking the prestige of the competition in which they participate.
And let's go back to the questions. If the comparison between Tebas and Negreira that the journalist attributes to club sources is false, DENY IT. If it is false that these sources tell you that LaLiga harms you with the schedules, DENY IT. I don't ask who pays his payroll. I ask if you tell what you convey to him.
Publish how many day and time changes you have requested, how many have been attended to, and how many were looking to accommodate the calendar to other Bernabéu events. Accepted requests also count, even if they spoil the story.
If you act in good faith, deny what is false, explain what is true and tell ALL the data.
Then continue asking for my resignation, my disqualification or my social 'death'. I already know the procedure. I also remember that "I will turn all the Real Madrid fans against you and you won't be able to walk down the street".
Stop targeting people and confusing criticism of your leaders with attacks on the club and its fans.
All of this has a name: bullying. Wrapping it in an official statement does not turn it into regeneration.
