Forget Quivers - Show Me Yer BATTLESTATION

Fellow North Americans (and €uros), it's almost time to air out the gear and LOCK IN. We could argue semantics about bullshit culture slang, or! We could gain inspiration from each other' setups/rigs/racks etc.

I wanna see em all. Waxing on a plastic Sterlite table? Lets see it. Got 5 groms in racing school and you throw down on a Wintersteiger? Work in a pro shop? Out of your van? Corner of the Garage? Dedicated Shed? Sheet of plywood and cinder blocks? Lets see it, show me your war room.

Yours truly to start out, hoping to get a pro deal with Harbor Freight this year.

Future Ski Tech Question

As we all know, there were quite significant changes from the 80s-90s era to modern day. I remember when “parabolic” skis were the rage, then of course “twin tips.” A lot of great advances came in the 2000s and nowadays the skis, binding, boots, etc. are all so damn good and there’s a ton of variety. I don’t know how it could get significantly better.

It seems like nowadays, it’s mostly a repeat of the previous year but with fresher top sheets and some minor tweaks and different models. It’s not like skis from 5-10 years ago are outdated anymore, in fact, they’re better sometimes. Generally speaking, of course.

In about 12-15 years, my sons will be able to use my skis, and I wonder if they’ll even want to, or if they’ll be relics and not cool anymore. I personally don’t want things to change too much. At some point, skiing is skiing and no amount of tech will change that. It’s an athletic and spiritual endeavor and gear is just one small piece of it, in my humble opinion. It’s fun to talk about gear and get new stuff, of course, and I’m guilty of it. Just wanted to pose the question and see what your opinions are.

Would you consider these used K2 Poachers 177cm for 210€?

Hi there.
I’m an intermediate skier based in Greece but completely new to park skiing and I’m looking for a dedicated park setup to learn some jumps and 180s/360s. I’m 188cm (6’2”), 90kg (198 lbs).

Found this pair in a pretty well known French online used ski shop. My main concern is the condition of the skis. I’ve attached photos of the bases, edges, topsheets, and bindings. There are two areas I’ve highlighted that concern me, especially a black gouge near the edge that looks like it might be deeper than a normal scratch.

The seller says the skis haven’t been serviced yet. Their workshop will polish the bases, wax, and sharpen the edges after I place my order. They’ve offered to send me updated photos after servicing and issue a refund before shipping if I’m unhappy with the condition. The price is 150€ + 60€ for shipping.

Do you think the highlighted damage look cosmetic and repairable, or is it potentially structural?

Unfortunately living in Greece I don’t have many second hand (or even new) ski options especially when looking for park skis.

Which used Powder ski would you pick for me ?

Thanks. Last time real skiers set me straight, so I’m asking again.

Looking for an older used powder ski, for trees and run edges, not alot of big bowls. Which would you pick?

  • 5'6", 160 lb, 69 years old, two hip replacements
  • Ex-junior racer, ~25 days a year at Northstar, Palisades, Mammoth, Vail
  • Not very confident in powder. Haven’t skied much deep snow since racing on skinny skis 50 years ago.
  • Daily skis: Stöckli Montero AR 170 for groomers, and a Völkl Mantra 177 (100 mm) for crud and up to about a foot of snow.
  • I also own a K2 Mindbender 108Ti 179cm (Marker Griffon 13 ID Demo binding) but find it more of a stiff, metal charger than a confidence-building powder ski. Should I sell it ? (Any takers at $500. Delivered in the US ?)

What I’m looking for: an easy, forgiving, pivoty powder ski that floats and builds confidence in tight spots.

If you looking at this on a phone, scroll right for other info.

Rank |Ski (era) |Target length |Waist |Why it’s on my list
1 |Rossignol Super 7 HD (2016–2020) |180 |116 |Wider Soul 7, more float, easy and forgiving
2 |Völkl Blaze 114 |177 |114 |Light and forgiving
3 |Salomon QST 118 / QST Blank |176 / 178 |118 / 112 |Damp and stable but still easy
4 |Line Sick Day 114 |179 |114 |Light and easy to turn
5 |Elan Ripstick 116 |177 |116 |Light, easy to steer
6 |DPS Wailer 112 RP |178 |112 |Classic easy powder shape
7 |Blizzard Rustler 11 (2018–2022) |180 |112 |Older, softer version, but still has metal
8 |Rossignol Soul 7 HD (2018–2020) |180 |106 |Very easy, but overlaps my 100 mm Mantra
9 |Atomic Bent Chetler 120 (2020–2022) / Bent 110 (2023+) |176 / 180 |120 / 110 |Soft and playful, but loose with a forward mount
10 |Armada ARV 116 JJ |175 |116 |Very pivoty, but freestyle-oriented
— |Praxis GPO |177 |~116 |Recommended on my last post, but rare used Questions:

  1. Which two or three would you pick for confidence in trees, not always charging?
  2. Are my lengths right for my size, or should I go longer or shorter for trees?
  3. Any of these I should avoid because they’re too stiff or demanding?
  4. Is the Mindbender 108Ti worth keeping instead, or is selling it and getting one of these the right call?

J Skis All-Play and Joy Ride vs QST 94

I was fairly dead set on the QST for what I want in my next ski, any viewpoints from anyone with experience between the three? The Allplay sits below the waist width of the QST while the Joyride above the width. I’m looking for something springy, fun and easy to maneuver. I’m not hard charging down the mountain and carving up a storm anymore. I ski up the east coast, lots of groomers and will sometimes follow my boys into the trees (if there’s plenty of clearance). The only obstacle I shy away from is moguls. Thanks!

Edit: joyride seems to be a better fit after the first few comments, thanks, that’s what I’ll gear my focus towards. Appreciate the insight

I have a ankle flap problem of my ski boots, need for advice

Dear all

As you can see in the pictures, the ankle flaps of my boots collide with each other instead of overlapping each other when I try to buckle up my boots. Therefore, the boots can't really embrace my ankle and provide stable support. I constantly experience heel lift during walking and skiing. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
