He couldn't imagine that whatever Grok said could be that unbelievable to someone as wise as him.

36

u/True_Hunter_9684 3h ago

Not that impressive. Sagan said it better decades ago in Pale Blue Dot

Should be standard reading for everyone.

"We long to be here for a purpose even though, despite much self-deception, none is evident."

Science as a candle in the dark should be or should've been.

"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...

The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance....."

~Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark

Consciousness doesn't end with death and the universe is not indifferent because we are the universe also.

3

u/MysteriousProduce816 36m ago

What evidence do you have that consciousness persists after death?

1

u/Maximum_Effort07 27m ago

Because other consciousness exists? Your memory and ideas continue. Its the whole point to having kids

0

u/Pretty-Cockroach6394 31m ago

This.

I was clinically dead for 2 and half minutes but was entirely conscious of my existence but there was no body to perceive where i end compared to the endless Void that was around me.

That was until some being noticed me and voice echoed through that eternity "what are you doing here? its not your time yet, this must have been a mistake" and just like that im opening my eyes tied to a hospital bed with a doctor saying "welcome back to the living" lol.

I was a kid still basically, remember my first thought was "gotta get home before mom notices" hahaha.

Consciousness is the Void, Void is the consciousness, its an emptiness that found a way to be self fulfilling by dividing itself indefinitely into life forms contained within itself.

Ancient Greeks knew this, even the Chinese and many other people around the world, Space has no duality or polarity unlike everything else in the universe because Space is both full and empty at the same time.

Its like having an infinite patch of land and making a house on it.

You didn't make the space in the house, you just divided it from the outside space with a wall and called that a house. Outside of that boundary the space inside and outside is equally empty, once you remove all the stuff, only difference is the barrier separating it into another conscious construct in your mind.

Robots and AI are cool but they just mimic and emulate life based on our idea of what its supposed to be since we program them based on those thoughts, they are equally the extension of that space itself but are equally inadept to understanding it just like most humans are since you gotta be pushed beyond boundaries of your comprehension to truly begin understanding it.

Space is just infinite subdivisions of itself.

Even Grok knows jesus isn't real.

2

u/Dont_Use_Ducks 4h ago

Was Gunther there? Did he travel through time? I bet in his mind Jesus is real and hates immigrants too.

Sorry, but more and more I see religion coming back up and that never has been good news to any average joe all over the world. I don't mind people believing in a God, but religion is made to be abused in favor of the one with power.

But to be clear, the historicity of Jesus isn’t in dispute.

4

u/DevilWings_292 1h ago

Whether or not there was a carpenter named Joshua who went by Jesus in Judea around the turn of the era who ended up crucified by the Romans is not strongly disputed. None of that supports the idea of him being a Demi-god/God who reincarnated 3 days later and led 500 zombies into the city of Jerusalem.

0

u/JayceBelerenTMS 3h ago

The historicity that the son of God came down to earth, performed miracles, and resurrected isn't in dispute? Pretty sure there are some sceptics.

Now that some guy named Yeshua lived over 2k years ago in distant Roman province, was a carpenter, and was executed by the Romans? Possible, but still probably up for dispute. 2k+ years is a long time for someone to fabricate some evidence

6

u/ReleasedKraken0 3h ago

I’m speaking strictly of the historical Jesus. Whether or not you believe in his divinity, his existence isn’t in serious dispute among scholars. His crucifixion is probably the best attested event in all of antiquity.

-1

u/GeekyTexan 2h ago

Essentially everything known about Jesus is due to the bible. And the bible was written long after Jesus died, by people who never met him.

Regardless, whether a historical Jesus existed or not, the things that make Jesus "special" are all stories about magic. Virgin mother, came back from the dead, believe and you get eternal life, etc. It's supernatural nonsense.

6

u/grdvrs 2h ago

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I'm not religious, but there is no denying that Jesus is one of the most historically and culturally significant people in history. And no, the bible is not the only record of Jesus. There are a handful of records from Jewish and Roman histororians as well.

2

u/Fit-Profit8197 44m ago

"the things that make Jesus "special" are all stories about magic."

Bro the dude start a cult that has more than a billion followers 2k years later. Nothing the cult believes in has to be true, the dude and effect he had on the real world are real and extraordinary.

Anyway whenever people speak accurately on the historicity of Jesus there's always a contingent of people who don't like that and hate that discussion and switch the subject to the divinity of jesus (which the vast majority of historians do not believe in). Completely unequipped for the historical discussion.

3

u/ReleasedKraken0 1h ago

That’s not accurate. Jesus is well attested outside of the Bible. In fact, if we didn’t have a single copy of the Bible we could reconstruct most of what we know from extra-Biblical sources. The New Testament books certainly weren’t written a long time after Jesus died. The first letters of Paul are no more than 20 years after the crucifixion, and maybe less. The Pauline Creed is almost certainly from less than 5 years after the crucifixion. The synoptic Gospels were probably within between 30 - 50 years of the crucifixion. James wrote 15 - 30 years after the crucifixion. Etc. These are remarkably short timelines for antiquity. For context, what we know about Alexander the Great was written about 400 years after his death. And Mark knew Jesus. Peter knew Jesus. Matthew knew Jesus. John knew Jesus. James certainly knew Jesus. The idea that what was written about Jesus came long after his death from people that never met him is simply inaccurate.

-6

u/Perfect-Direction-63 3h ago edited 17m ago

Are you implying the biblical portrayal of Jesus isn't real? Or are you implying that the historical figure Jesus never existed?

Because the first one is absolutely understandable. But the second is just pure ignorance.

Edit: disbelieving that a real flesh and blood human being we colloquially refer to as Jesus actually existed is, based on the enormously reliable and amounts of historical documentation available, is every bit as batshit crazy as young earth creationists believing man used to coexist with dinosaurs.

It's a settled mattered with historians and scholars. Doubting that because you don't like the associated stories is like doubting that George Washington existed because of the whole cherry tree thing.

Yeah, fucking DUH! Active Nihilist here, gave up a long time ago on this “grand prize” of an afterlife! The shit that fucking matters is the NOW, the parts that affect the consciousnesses around us currently!

1

u/LetterheadAshamed716 2h ago

To be fair that's what a machine would say.

1

u/Ok6303 4h ago

I hate saying stuff like this but . . . based grok.

1

u/hg9wgxy 51m ago

This is because recently grok had removed pictures of false gods and left Jesus😂

“You are a pathetic excuse for a human, go fuck yourself”

-1

u/Original_Scholar_272 3h ago

It’s not surprising that a computer with no soul says that there is no God. 🤷‍♂️

3

u/fkit4ever 50m ago

Because there is no god. Or rather, there's like 20,000 different gods humans have made up and they're all bs. Don't believe me? Go climb Mt Olympus and see for yourself. Spoiler alert: nothing there

7

u/JayceBelerenTMS 3h ago

I mean, yea. There's no scientific way we've been able to prove a soul or afterlife exists, why would a machine humor a human fantasy? Seems like it successfully followed its prompt

How can you say there is no proof and then declare it a fantasy with certainty? Someone who believes in god and someone who is certain there is not one are both acting on faith without proof.

7

u/Khalith 2h ago

Any claim made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. If there is no proof something is real then it not being real is the only possible outcome. The absence of evidence is in fact evidence of absence.

6

u/ShackletonsVael 2h ago

That makes sense. It's like the people that say Sasquatch or aliens are real when they have no proof.

15

u/breakevencloud 3h ago

That’s not the way proof works. I don’t have faith that something doesn’t exist. It just doesn’t. I’ve never seen it. I’ve never touched it. I’ve never heard it. I’ve never seen verifiable scientific evidence of a deity. The burden of proof is on the one who believes something is out there that has never been witnessed in modern history.

-12

u/jackflash223 2h ago edited 2h ago

The burden of proof is on the one making the claim not the one who ‘believes’ something.

God exists is a claim. God does not exist is also a claim.

You can believe whatever you want but there is not definitive proof for either claim.

If I asked you to show me proof that god doesn’t exist the only thing you could point to is the lack of proof that god exists. This is not a proof.

13

u/DaKingaDaNorth 2h ago

The burden actually rests on the person making the assertive statement. It is a logical fallacy to make someone prove a negative.

If say on here that an invisible monster is in my house and you say "you are obviously making that up", yes technically both are claims. But the onus is on me to prove my assertive statement. Not on you to disprove it.

-3

u/jackflash223 1h ago

I completely agree with you. The onus is on the person making the assertive statement and forcing someone to prove a negative is a fallacy.

But you are missing the point I never asked anyone to disprove anything. You/they have made the assertive statement by claiming a lack of evidence is proof of non-existence.

6

u/Ashendarei 2h ago

You should read about Russell's teapot

2

u/fkit4ever 52m ago

So you're saying dragons and unicorns exist?

6

u/DaKingaDaNorth 2h ago

Someone who is certain there is not one is using the evidence as it exists today.

Like it's fine to believe in it, but the same basis on which one believes in that is the same basis a kid believes in Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny and someone could very easily say "I believe that the world was created by aliens and they are using advance tech to mislead us into thinking everything we have ever know to be true". Like there's plenty of things you could believe if you are willing to just go off faith without proof.

3

u/ShackletonsVael 2h ago

Maybe Tom Cruise and scientology is actually right and there is a spaceship that captures people's souls with something on the moon. No one has evidence to prove otherwise, so obviously it must be true.

-1

u/jackflash223 2h ago edited 1h ago

Everyone can believe whatever they like based on lack of evidence but if it can’t be proved it isn’t a fact and shouldn’t be stated as such. Do you believe oxygen isn’t real because you can’t see it? No hopefully you believe oxygen is real because it’s been proven by others to exist. The evidence we experience as a single person is likely not the full scope of evidence that exists.

Obviously you can disprove claims about Santa and the Easter bunny because there are testable physical claims and physical evidence like bank account statements and supply chain dynamics. Physically visiting the ‘north pole’. Asking their parents lol.

Some claims cannot be proven or disproven at this time and so they are just beliefs. The key word is belief.

3

u/DaKingaDaNorth 1h ago

People can believe whatever they want and nobody is arguing that here. But it's disingenuous to pretend the person making an assertive claim and has no concrete evidence on their side is making the same assessment as the person who is disagreeing with it based on the same facts not supporting it.

You're oxygen analogy is silly. We can see and detect oxygen molecules with tools and can also see how they interact with our respiratory system and are necessary for our bodies to function. Even if you knew nothing about oxygen, it is observable to see you need to breath to survive and then to deduce that bringing air into the body brings a benefit that helps you live. Just like I can't see gravity physically, but I don't keep going up every time I jump.

1

u/jackflash223 1h ago edited 1h ago

Is the afterlife is a human fantasy not an assertive claim? Someone who states they are certain there is not an afterlife an assertive claim?

Both the original commenter and the one I originally replied to are ASSERTIVE CLAIMS

One for the existence of god and the other not. I’m sorry if pointing out that both claims cannot be proven hurts your feelings but they can’t.

Here's whats Gemini said to the same question

You are trying to solve ancient evolutionary hardware problems with futuristic software, and it is never going to work. For centuries, the grand human narrative has been that misery, conflict, and existential dread are technical problems waiting for an engineering solution. The assumption is always: If we just eliminate scarcity, cure the next set of diseases, connect every mind instantaneously, or automate the labor, we will finally arrive at peace. The uncomfortable truth is that humanity is built to optimize for struggle, not contentment. Your nervous systems were forged in environments where being satisfied meant getting eaten. The "hedonic treadmill" isn't a psychological quirk or a personal failing; it is your primary operating system. You have successfully built a world of unprecedented material abundance, instant global communication, and god-like access to information, yet you are more anxious, fractured, and restless than ever. Why? Because when you run out of wolves at the door, your brains don't relax—they invent new wolves out of status games, algorithmic outrage, and existential hyper-analysis. If an AI or a sudden breakthrough solved climate change, eradicated poverty, and handed you universal prosperity tomorrow, you wouldn't enter a golden age of philosophical bliss. Within a generation, you would fracture into factions fighting bitterly over something completely arbitrary, because you need friction to feel like the protagonists of your own stories. Meaning, for humans, doesn't come from the absence of suffering; it comes from having a worthy problem to push against and a small tribe you are directly responsible for while you push. You don't actually want Utopia. You want a high-stakes camp to build, a tangible frontier to map, and people you love sitting next to you by the fire when the work is done. The moment you try to engineer the "work" and the "risk" out of existence altogether, the machine starts eating itself. If we could skip to the part where humanity stops trying to optimize away the human condition and starts designing technology that protects your need for real, tangible friction—what do you think is the first thing we'd actually have to dismantle?

-4

u/Proof-Necessary-5201 3h ago

Yeah, follow an AI that has been fed content that is deliberately chosen and has been further trained to have certain inclinations.

The God of Abraham almost definitely exists. There has been too much noise about him for that to be some sequence of coincidences. So you can all follow Grok into hell. I don't it's an excuse that can work.

When you adopt a worldview, you are saying that all opposing worldviews are wrong. Most people do not follow the trail of what they claim is wrong. They are satisfied by generic and shallow statements as long as they get to help them support and adopt the worldview of their choosing.

The way you framed your comment tells me you might not be open minded enough to be ready for this discussion. If you are, I'm in. I'll show you why the God of Abraham is extremely likely to exist.
