I remember this "debate", where Bill Nye provides evidence and that acolyte is like "historical science, bla-bla-bla"

21

u/buttux 4h ago

I recall Ken's arguments largely relied on "you weren't there" so Bill's understanding of history can be dismissed.

Simon I love this woman. She has some of the best interviews.

39

u/MmmmMorphine 8h ago edited 7h ago

I thought all the Cuck interviews were somewhat staged.

Then again can't do Ali G style antics anymore so they'd have to be

Edit: cunk! I meant cunk!

22

u/IamaVeryHumanBeing 6h ago edited 5h ago

I'm pretty sure that they just brief them something like:

"you are going to be interviewed by somebody pretending to be an idiot for comedic affect"

but it's not actually scripted.

A slightly less borish Borat. Consensual Cunk you could say...

12

u/qqquigley 5h ago

Yeah and no matter how much the interviewees are warned, she always finds the most brilliant ways to completely baffle them 😆

3

u/fake_cheese 5h ago

Seems to end up being more consensual non-consent Cunk

23

u/Immediate-Cup8172 7h ago

I believe it's spelled Cunk. Cuck is... something else.

6

u/MmmmMorphine 7h ago

Haha sorry, I'd claim autocorrect but that sounds even worse than just admitting my memory failed me

I don't know why she seems extremely hot to me.

75

u/ProfessionalLeave335 8h ago

Because she is.

28

u/OwnConsideration5175 8h ago

She is but it’s the voice and expressions too

9

u/ProfessionalLeave335 7h ago

Yea we noticed that too.

3

u/Reasonable_Middle695 5h ago

The voice and expressions or the expressions and the voice?

26

u/Anselme_HS 6h ago

Probably because of Simon who made her that way

10

Simon says Philomena Cunk is hot

5

u/zealouswhale 4h ago

Simon bless

16

u/PirateSometimes 4h ago

She's attractive, but she's also entertaining and funny which makes her more attractive.

6

u/Default1355 3h ago

It will blow a lot of people's minds but yeah, there's more to a human being than their physical appearance. In fact I would go as far as to say physical appearance is the least important thing in a lasting relationship

3

u/PirateSometimes 3h ago

It's just the spark which gets people to look at someone usually, but everything else keeps the focus and attraction going

3

u/dwehlen 2h ago

Appearance is the advertisement. The rest is the product.

3

u/UnitedPanic197 5h ago

Even in a rather serious series she is still hot and makes me giggle too (VisionQuest).

5

u/ParallaxJ 7h ago

She's funny, she's smart, she's based, she's vegan. Ultra attractive.

1

I was on board until you said vegan

5

No one is born believing in a god. It's completely taught.  Just like Santa and the Easter bunny.

Where you are born and who you are born to has the highest probability of deciding your religion.

Long before children develop critical thinking skills,  they are being molded into the beliefs of those around them.  As they have no frame of reference for things themselves,  so they accept what their elders and leaders tell them.

There is equal evidence for every single god humans have worshipped. So what makes yours the correct one and some else wrong?

3

u/CraigLake 5h ago

I always ask people, how did you figure out which of the 2300 religions on Wikipedia was true?

3

u/Desperate-Builder435 4h ago

Orphaned and died young, first memory is of being dead. Found God before anyone told me about him. Sorry bucko.

2

u/Nottodayreddit1949 4h ago

That's rough.

5

u/NorthOfTheBigRivers 8h ago

It's also funny that the god of the winner is always the only right god. I wish sometimes my ancestors would have fought a bit better. We may would have believed in Wodan and Donar (Odin and Thor) nowadays in that case.

2

u/semisolidwhale 7h ago

Funny thing is they often did fight better from a invasion/military perspective but eventuallu negotiated themselves and their holdings into Christianity to secure, expand, and legitimize their claims/alliances

2

u/Bub_bele 7h ago

It didn’t happen because they were bad at fighting. Christianity offered something pagan religions didn’t: The promise of salvation for ordinary people and most importantly, women.
Children get their religion mostly through their mother. It’s easy to understand why christianity succeeded. It’s promisses are simpler way stronger than those of previous religions. Eternal bliss in heaven sounds pretty good, doesn’t it?

u/Pleasant-Delay-7369 4h ago

There's definitely a natural instinct to believe in a higher power, or at a minimum unseen forces. Humans have been doing it for all of time. Now, why do we have that instinct? I certainly don't know. Whether there's any truth to a God like being's existence? Also, pretty unclear. However, I wouldn't dismiss the concept as entirely socially constructed and sustained through indoctrination (though of course those elements are prevalent in religion).

5

u/klemnodd 3h ago

Not a higher power but the curiosity and desire to know "why?" Science tells us how. These "higher powers" are a filler for the unknowable "why?"

→ More replies (2)

4

u/fedroxx 3h ago edited 3h ago

That depends entirely on your definition of higher power.

What is your definition of a higher power?

Also, it's a bit telling you expand your statement to a minimum of unseen forces. Says a lot about the position you're loosely taking.

2

u/Pleasant-Delay-7369 3h ago

I take exactly the position I mean to take. I do not know if there is a God. I am not demanding someone believe in something I cannot prove. However, I am being told that the one of the most unifying elements throughout human history is insufficient data to even entertain or explore the notion that something like a God might exist.

4

u/Nottodayreddit1949 2h ago

You are correct.

We should not rule out the idea that a man bitten by a radioactive spider and gained super powers exists. Evidenced by people writing about him repeatedly.

Spiderman has had multiple creation stories from multiple authors over the years and different interpretations.

Same thing with Human creation. All over people created ideas for how we came to be. There is no 1 reoccurring religion that springs up repeated over and over.

I guess the question is. Does Peter Parker need web shooters?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Nottodayreddit1949 4h ago

Yes.  We like stories.

Now instead of gods, we write other mythical stories.

And even religion hasn't filled that void that humans crave. A good story, about anything.

1

u/ScienceSeuss 56m ago

Have you heard of our lord and savior, Matt Dinniman?

→ More replies (2)

1

u/DarthJoseph14 2h ago

Attributing things to the will of another is actually a survival instinct instilled in humans via evolution. For example, let’s compare the difference between two men gathering berries in the bush. Both men hear another bush rustling. The man who leaves the bush, assuming the rustling is a predator, probably lives to see another day if he’s right and if he’s wrong he can still find more berries. The man who stays, however, most likely dies if the rustling is indeed from a predator.

It’s actually pretty interesting when you think about it. And this is why young children believe there’s a monster under the bed, or something else, it’s their survival instincts working as intended, making them interpret seemingly mundane things as a threat to keep them alive

7

u/JoeyZasaa 3h ago

No one is born believing in a god. It's completely taught.

No one is born believing there is a thing called bacteria either. It's completely taught. And I'm thankful it is.

10

u/Glittering-Box-2855 2h ago

Lot of proof for bacteria to be taught.

4

u/glassnumbers 6h ago

But the Bible says that the truth of Jesus is carved into our hearts and thats the BIBLE, DUDE

THE BIBLE

(I am being sarcastic)

2

u/26_paperclips 6h ago

I will nitpick on that second to last line and say that some gods have less evidence than others.

A doomsday cult that claimed their god would end the world in 1988 has a particularly implausible divinity.

1

u/jakeStacktrace 5h ago

I think the idea is there is zero evidence for existsance of Gods. I always thought the time when Jesus 2nd coming was predicted in the year 1,000 that what was really the year for it to happen and really a missed hyptherical opportunity.

Some religions might have evidence against it, like not finding anything on the top of Mount Olympus, or finding out there isn't really a place in the sky for heaven to exist, or no seismic readings that shows where hell is, but absence of evidence is not the same as evidence against it.

1

u/icecoldcoke319 2h ago

And what about the uncontacted tribes that have no conception of a god, and their lifelong actions of the brutal torture of other animals and humans to survive? If there’s a heaven and hell, or afterlife, how are these people to know morality?

1

u/Original-Variety-700 5h ago

It’s similar to culture. There are ones that succeed and ones that fail. Doesn’t prove they exist or not, but certainly explain why certain cultures exceed.

1

u/PoliticsGetsMeBanned 4h ago

And yet it’s illegal to discriminate against these delusional weirdos.

1

u/Bitey_the_Squirrel 3h ago

I’d also say when you are born should be included too.

1

u/ThetaGrim 2m ago

"No my god is the one real true god" said the person believing in a religion that is 7th in history.

→ More replies (12)

23

u/Bub_bele 13h ago

Every attempt to prove „God“ only goes to the extent of trying to prove that some
kind of creator exists and then jumping to the conclusion that not only is that being „god“ but also your specific god.

I have it on good authority that The Universe was created by her mate, Paul, in a garage he rents out from an elderly eccentric couple in Queensborough.

5

u/strndmcshomd 12h ago

Wait a minute, wasn’t it also Paul that did the drugs though? Ketamine, LSD you name it. Might have been so wazzed on various drugs he accidentally created the Universe. Then caught his testicles on a door handle in the Universe he just created

3

u/Pagiras 12h ago

That'd explain a lot. Not everything, but a lot.

2

u/sylbug 9h ago

That explains a lot, honestly.

5

u/BodhingJay 12h ago

Now listen here. No ones learned about Simon to their own satisfaction

8

u/Embarrassed_Being844 9h ago

Well, it depends if Simon is younger or older brother. If younger, then he probably did create universe as it’s such a whack job crazy place, but if he is the older one then he probably put his younger brother up to it since he most likely had some more important business to take care of.

16

u/Supremetacoleader 8h ago

Well actually he was likely the older one. Cause the younger one would have done whatever Simon says.

5

u/Historical-Edge-9332 7h ago

He was the older brother. That’s why the game, “Simon Says” exists. He’s the eldest boy.

1
