Facts, the whole Gen-Z gym culture as a whole has become so bizarre. Good for more people exercising and what not, but boy the fashion trends (from both genders) and the whole cameras filming everywhere is so annoying.
I remember in the early 2000’s women would be in the gym in old college t shirts and baggy sweats and dudes would be in there in tattered hoodies beat to shit. It definitely was not a fashion show back then lol

gyms won’t ban cameras cause they’d lose money. but they need to be banned. hell, i’d ban selfie videos in public anywhere if i was king, but good thing im not eh

My gym bans cameras, and if someone so much as brings their tripod attached to their backpack, half the gym goers will remind them to not get it out.

Some genZ kid pulled out his phone and started taking selfies in the gym locker room mirror the other day! I told him to put his phone away and he said "Why?" I asked him if he wanted strangers taking pics of him naked? He shut the fuck up after that.

It's worse in Korea. You know how they're uber-obsessed with beauty.
So, at least the gyms I know of. They ALWAYS film you, ALWAYS. Like the instructor. Then you can choose to get thoes videos, and if allowed they'd post them.
But they always film. You cannot stop them from. At least true of Gangnam area gyms.

This doesn't even include the thong over lycra shorts that was so popular for years in the 90s. And that was when butts were much flatter then.

u/PracticalSyllabub514 12h ago
Gyms just have to ban people from filming. Mirror is fine for checking your form. You don't need to film yourself doing every exercise. The people who come with the tripod are basically fucking bullies. honestly just gonna have to start accidentally kicking the tripods if the gym doesn't do something about it

I live in the middle of nowhere and drive to two different gyms. Every time I'm there there's more than one person filming themselves. Tripods are not so common (yet) but if you pay attention there's always someone recording. It's gross and disrespectful to the other people in the gym.

Men can wear tights and tight shorts, is also nothing bad... it's just that men are also aware that they are attention seeking then. Everyone with great tree trunks wearing skin tight short tights knows they are showing off their pump and love the attention. Every man knows that and nobody disputes that. It is just honest, still thirst-trapping.
Obviously... that is the main point I think. That women are just not honest why they wear unnecessarily tight and short stuff when they could also just wear less skin tight gym clothes.
Just state "Yeah I wear that to get attention" and done.

I’m all for people wearing whatever they want but personally if I wore clothing as tight and minimal as some women in the gym I would feel naked as hell.
We should take a step back and ask why minimal tight fitting clothing is somehow normal for women but not normal for men.
Again, wear whatever you want but the “male gaze” is the driving factor of why these tight fitting clothes are the way that they are and anyone who thinks otherwise is so deep in denial.

i've been a 4-5 days/wk gym goer for 20+ yrs. i've never gone to a fancy gym, just a big place that's cheap and has lots of equipment and good hours. i've been going to the same gym for 10ish years now. it's a mix of hardcore and regular folks, I fall somewhere in between. precovid everyone was pretty slobby, guys and girls. sweats, shirts, muscle shirts. no cleavage, little shorts, or yoga pants to be seen or, at least, very rarely. then covid happened. i didn't go to the gym for 1.5 yrs or so. went back and the girls were dressed like tiktok/insta fitness influencers. those yoga/workout tights which hug each buttcheek individually. little sports bras built for fashion, not support. tiny tiny shorts. i'm not sure what happened. i'm not exactly complaining because ,admittedly, some of these women look amazing in their gear but i'm not sure how covid flipped that switch.

Yeah the way I look at it, a woman who dresses that provocatively is asking for people to admire her... respectfully of course. You do little glances. Find a reason to tie your shoe laces. Etc... That's all fine. If you make rude comments, now you are crossing the line, but provocative outfit in public does equal consent to be looked at.

i find it weird how many struggle to grasp this perspective.
Whether we like it or not, how we present ourselves in public is a choice that others are entitled to react to.Dress up in a way that many find very attractive? expect some looks, i mean shit the phrase "head turning" is a thing for a reason, its natural to look at attractive people. dont be weird or creepy about it tho and dont assume it means they consent to being touched or harassed.

u/SvenTropics 13h ago
Yeah and if you dress like a nut job, you want people to look at that too. If you don't want to be the center of attention, you dress casually, like most people do. There's a guy who used to rollerblade in a thong with his butt cheeks painted in San Diego every day on the boardwalk. Even his roller blades were loud colors. If someone gawked at him, would you say they were in the wrong? No, he clearly wants this attention.

Whether it's wearing a burka or shaming people for "staring" in order to create social pressure, they both have the same goal of preventing someone from looking at the female/feminine form. It's just people trying to control other people. With the burka, it's putting the onus on the woman. With the public shaming, it's putting the onus on everyone else. They are different approaches, but they both come from the same place deep down in the human psyche: A desire to control others.

I did not expect some of the hard-hitting themes just like the chicken wing bit. I came for the dumb humor but stayed because I started caring.

If they didn't want you to look they wouldn't wear thier under wear in public.

It's a double standard. That's all he was trying to point out. He wrote a really bad joke, but regardless I'm sure we all actually know the truth. People that go to the gym that dress the way they do want attention. Simple that's it.

Don’t forget it gives them a reason to go commando and cover all of the machines and equipment in sweat directly from their genitals!

They want a specific guys attention too. Its like when women read fifty shades of Grey when the guy was rich and good looking. It all else equal but it was a poor guy in trailer park it would have caused an uproar, and been a rape novel but instead it was the best selling book at the time. Women want it all. They want to dress slutty but not be labeled a slut. They want attention from best looking guys but none from the poor avg looking guys. They want equal pay but not for any hard manual labor jobs, I could go on and on

If you get caught looking and your tall and handsome, They are flattered. Might even get a little smile back. If you are overweight or too skinny and not even close to mediocre looking, then, it becomes creepy, and you're a creep. And a weirdo and a pervert. And how dare you!

Ima be real. I go to the gym and am fat and I wear a baggy black t shirt and regular basketball shorts.
All women wear this elastic shit even the fatties. I don’t think I’ve seen a woman wear just…..regular work out clothes in like 8 years.

Was half staring half zoning out at a girl at the gym the other day. She turned around and made eye contact. She just smiled and went on with her workout and I did the same.
Tons of sane people out there lmao

And if a dude is ripped to shreds and goes top less in the gym, everyone will also look.
People like seeing attractive people

Remember everyone: making jokes about leering at scantily-clad women in a gym is bad, but murdering your 3 children because of mental illness is good.

Here's my criticism of his monolog: why would you name drop Rogan and Theo Von? Being host on SNL is the impressive part, not your connection to those two.

Yeah same lol, that was pretty lame. Everything else was just your run of the mill mid standup set

I do find the outrage of what is a pretty mild joke to be hilarious. Honestly shes one of the more clothed women at the gym too, making this sketch even funnier

LOL, that girl wasn't even that bad, if bad at all. There's WAAAAYY more provocative women out there with their clothing.

Yes this skit doesn’t actually show what most people see. This isn’t even close to what I would consider
