One Shopify app jumped 2,500+ positions this quarter with almost no reviews. Rank surges aren’t what they look like.

• Upvotes

I've been watching the AI apps climb the charts this quarter, and the rank gains are real - one new app moved more than 2,500 positions across its categories, and another hit #1 in its category outright. If you only looked at the ranking tables, you’d think a new wave of AI apps had just taken over the store.

Then I looked at the ratings. That category leader sits at 2.4 stars, and the app that climbed thousands of spots has barely any reviews behind it. A few of the quarter’s biggest AI risers are in the same spot - high on rank, thin on proof.

We’ve seen this before. Last quarter the momentum was all EU-regulation apps, this quarter it’s AI. The catalyst changes, the surge looks identical, and only some of it ever turns into something durable.

So I’m treating these rankings as a watchlist. Q4 is probably what separates the AI apps that turned attention into real traction from the ones that were only ever riding the trend.

This makes me wonder how others read a fast climb - do you take it seriously before the reviews catch up, or wait it out? And has a trend-driven surge in your category ever actually held?

PSA: a lot of the apps people install could be 20 lines in the theme instead

Not anti-app, some are genuinely worth it. But I keep getting hired to "fix slow store" and the real issue is five apps doing things the theme can already do.

Things that usually don't need an app:

  • Size charts — a metafield on the product + a snippet. Done.
  • FAQ accordions — <details> and <summary> are native HTML now and cost zero JS.
  • "Free shipping over $X" bar — a section with a cart subtotal check.
  • Trust badges / payment icons — an image.
  • Simple product tabs — again, metafields.

Things that usually are worth an app: subscriptions, reviews with real moderation, complex bundling, anything touching tax or compliance.

Rule of thumb I use: if the app is just rendering static content, it should live in your theme. If it's holding state or talking to Shopify's APIs, let the app do it.

Anyone disagree? Curious which apps people think are genuinely irreplaceable.

Shopify sellers on QuickBooks Online, would you use a connector built only for Shopify?

Since the new connector, everyone's orders are coming in as sales receipts, every customer is just "Shopify Customer," and tax codes keep breaking. Some people are getting duplicate invoice numbers too.

I'm working on one that works like the old one did. Shopify stores only. If something breaks, an AI reads the error and tells you the fix so you're not stuck waiting on a ticket. Not built yet.

Would you use it, or are you fine with MyWorks or A2X? What would it have to do?

We just launched WowBundles, a 100% free Shopify app for bundles and volume discounts.

Hey everyone!

I'm founder of WowApps, and today we're launching WowBundles, a new Shopify app we've built based on requests from our merchants.

We wanted to make it easier for Shopify store owners to create product bundles and quantity-based offers without adding another monthly subscription to their expenses.

The best part? WowBundles is 100% free to install, with no extra app charges.

With WowBundles, you can create:

  • Volume Discounts & Quantity Breaks to encourage customers to buy more.
  • Product Bundles to combine complementary products.
  • BOGO & Buy X Get Y promotions.
  • Free Gifts & Progressive Gifts to reward qualifying purchases.
  • Upsell Offers to introduce relevant products and add-ons.

We've also focused on customizable storefront designs, and our support team can help merchants set up their offers. If you're switching from another bundle app, you can also ask us about our free migration assistance.

We're launching this today, so we're especially interested in feedback from Shopify merchants.

What features do you look for in a bundle app? And what's the most frustrating thing about the bundle apps you've tried?

If you'd like to check it out, here's the link:

I'd love to hear your thoughts and learn what we should improve next.

Thanks!

We changed our logo after four Black Fridays. What we kept, what we dropped, and why

Hi all,

Merchants have known Discounty since 2022 by a green tag with a % mark. On October 14 we refreshed it. Writing it up because plenty of store owners here go through the same thing with their own logo, and the rule that held for us might be useful: keep what people already recognise, and fix only what has no reason to be there.

What we kept: the tag, the % mark and the green.

What we changed:

  • The hand-drawn loop on the tag is now an even circle.
  • The yellow layer behind the tag is gone. It was decoration with no meaning.
  • The tag sits at a gentler angle. The steep tilt read like a flash sale.
  • The % mark has even line weights, and it's drawn from the u and n in "Discounty".
  • The green is tuned so dark text on it reads more clearly (contrast went from 5.7:1 to 10.1:1).

If you use Discounty today, nothing changes in your store. Your campaigns keep running, and your settings and plan stay as they are.

I hope you all like the new look, and that Discounty keeps giving you a hand with your Black Friday sales this year: the same service you know, with a calmer, clearer look.

Do you keep track of the apps your clients actually use?

I work with a few Shopify stores and I've noticed that recommending an app is one thing, but knowing whether the client keeps using it is another. Some apps seem useful at first but end up getting removed after a couple of months, which also makes referral commissions pretty unpredictable. Do you guys follow up with clients to see which apps they're still using, or do you just leave it up to them once everything is set up? I'm trying to figure out if there's a better way to handle app recommendations long term.

I built a no-code A+ content app for Shopify product pages (my first app, just launched). Would love honest feedback

Hey everyone,

I’m an independent developer and I just launched my first Shopify app, Aplo: A+ Content Design.

Why I built it: Page builders like PageFly or GemPages are great, but a lot of merchants just want Amazon-style content on their product pages (feature grids, comparison tables, FAQs, before/after) without a full page builder or touching theme code.

What it does:

  • Drag-and-drop editor with live preview
  • 10 modules: hero banner, feature grid, image + text, gallery, brand story, FAQ, comparison table, video, before/after, banner carousel
  • Style tab so each module matches your brand
  • Renders through a theme app extension, and your original product description is never overwritten
  • Free plan (up to 50 products, 2 modules per product), Pro is $29/month with a 30-day trial

Being honest: It’s brand new, so 0 reviews and only English for now. I’m sure there are things I’ve missed.

What I’d love to know:

  1. What A+ modules do you wish existed that I didn’t include?
  2. If you’ve used other tools for this, what annoyed you the most?

I’m happy to give free Pro access to anyone who’s willing to try it and tell me what’s broken. Link in the comments if anyone wants it. Thanks!

Anyone here built a multi vendor marketplace on Shopify?

I’m curious how you guys handle multiple sellers without orders and inventory turning into a mess. Especially when different vendors have their own products and payouts to keep track of.

Did you use an existing app for this or build your own setup? Would love to hear what worked for you.

How do Shopify merchants catch important Google Merchant Center disapprovals?

I’m doing early, transparent research on Google Merchant Center monitoring for Shopify stores.

For merchants managing product feeds: have you ever missed a disapproval on an important product or small group of products because overall-store alerts didn’t make it obvious? What do you use today to catch these issues?

I’m also trying to understand the value of a tool that would prioritize high-impact disapprovals and explain likely causes. If something like that saved you time or prevented lost sales, would you consider paying for it? A rough range is helpful (for example, $10–25/month, $25–75/month, or not worth paying for).

I’m not selling anything or collecting contact details—just looking for candid experiences. Please reply here so the discussion stays public.

I built a Shopify app for competitor price tracking

Hi all. I built Price Radar, a competitor price tracking app that just launched on the Shopify App Store. I'm the developer, and there's a free plan.

Price trackers aren't new, but a lot of them are a black box. You paste in a competitor link and it either can't crawl it at all, or it quietly crawls the wrong price — wrong variant, an old sale price — and you have no way of knowing. And most of them only work if a competitor sells the exact same product as you.

What it does today: tracks competitor prices at product and variant level, including Google Shopping, with price history and alerts when something changes. I focused on two things. First, the crawling side — getting the right price, and being upfront about what it matched or couldn't crawl, instead of just showing a number and hoping it's right. Second, you're not limited to exact matches — you can also track similar products as targets. Useful if you sell your own version of something and still want to keep an eye on the closest alternatives your customers are comparing you against.

What it doesn't do: it's not a full pricing suite, and crawling still breaks on some heavily protected stores. That's the part I'm actively working on.

It's still early, so honest feedback is very welcome, especially on what's confusing or missing, or any store where the tracking gets it wrong.

I built a free Shopify app for purchase orders, shipment tracking and receiving

Hi all. I’m a supply chain analyst and I built Wharfly, which just launched on the Shopify App Store. I’m the developer, and it’s free right now.

The problem: small Shopify stores order from suppliers in spreadsheets and email, then guess what has arrived. Shopify’s native purchase orders cover the basics, but the receiving and tracking side is thin.

What it does today: purchase orders with suppliers and expected dates, shipments with tracking, receiving per delivery (partial deliveries too) into the Shopify location you pick, rejected or damaged units recorded against the order, supplier records and bills, and demand planning views with reorder suggestions.

What it doesn’t do: it doesn’t replace accounting software and it’s not a full ERP yet. Integrations are on the roadmap.

I built it with Claude Code. It’s my first Shopify app, so honest feedback is very welcome, especially on what’s confusing or missing.

I built a Shopify app that imports products from any supplier link (title, images, variants, price), just submitted it to the App Store

Hey! Solo founder from Sweden here. I used to copy-paste products from supplier sites by hand, so I built Importino: paste a link (or a whole category page) and it pulls in title, images, variants, SKU and price, applies your markup and rounding, and creates the product in Shopify.

A few things I learned building it:
– Shopify stores expose clean JSON, so they import perfectly; other sites need structured data or HTML fallbacks
– Price monitoring turned out to be the feature people asked about most
– App Store review has a lot of small requirements (no myshopify-domain prompts on install, etc.)

Would love feedback: what’s the most annoying part of adding supplier products to your store?

Merchant sends me a screenshot of their review. Shopify never publishes it. Again.

Small rant, but I'm genuinely out of ideas.

We ask happy merchants for a review the "approved" way: neutral ask, after something actually worked, nothing offered in return. They say "done!" and even send a screenshot. In their logged-in view the review is right there. On the public listing: nothing. No "published" email, no removal notice, nothing in the Partner Dashboard. Weeks later, still nothing.

And before anyone asks: yes, I read the rules. Installed for weeks, still installed, full-price plan (no trial, no discounted plan), not a dev store, one review, real text. Not the obvious stuff.

I get that the July "trust" changes were meant to kill fake reviews. But now there's no status, no timeline, and to appeal I have to prove a review is genuine when I can't even see it.

So, fellow devs:

  • Did your invisible reviews ever go live on their own? How long did it take?
  • Did a Support appeal actually work, and what evidence did you send?
  • Is asking the merchant to edit or resubmit worth it, or does it make things worse?

Starting to feel like begging for reviews is the hardest part of building an app.

Two Shopify deadlines land 9 weeks apart in Q1 2027. I think a lot of apps won’t make it past them.

Two forced migrations are coming for every public Shopify app:

  • Jan 1, 2027: all public apps need to use expiring offline access tokens. If an app can’t refresh its token, it quietly loses access to the store.
  • Mar 1, 2027: script tags stop running on storefronts. Apps still using them need to move to theme app extensions. Since Oct 1, apps can’t even create or update script tags.

That’s on top of the routine work. Shopify ships a new API version every quarter, and each one is supported for at least 12 months, so that’s four rounds of “check, test, update” a year just to stay current.

The timing matters because the store is already losing apps faster. According to the numbers on Letsmetrix Q3 report, removals roughly doubled last quarter, to about 6% of the store, and the median age at which developers abandon an app dropped from 716 days to 567.

The usual reason is simple math: if an app makes less than its support and maintenance hours cost, it gets shut down. A quarter with two real migrations is exactly when that math tips over, especially for small apps that still work but don’t earn much.

My guess is that removals stay high through Q1 2027, and some of the exits will be established apps, not just abandoned side projects. That also means some categories will suddenly lose a trusted option, and merchants there will be looking for a replacement.

I could be wrong. Maybe most devs have already migrated. But the numbers make me think a lot of apps are one deadline away from someone deciding they’re not worth it.

App devs, have you already handled the token refresh and the script tag move?

Analyze and optimize Shopify App Store Ads

Hey everyone,

Shopify ads management sucks. For a while Ranksy had an option to import CSV exports from Shopify App Store ads. The problem was that required a lot of manual work for each campaign, exporting campaigns one by one, downloading csv from email and then uploading to Ranksy.

After few users asking for better way to manage and upload ads data i've built ranksy cli tool that uses your local browser and automates ingestion day by day, login to your partner account, select date range and check your ad performance at once in Ranksy.

On top of that, ranksy finds what keywords wastes you money, what keywords you can reduce bids and where to double down.

And finally, all of your data is also available in your agent of choice through Ranksy MCP.

If you are interested in trying it out, i'd be happy to help you set it all up.

Built a small tool to speed up Meta static ad variants for stores – looking for brutal feedback

Hey everyone,

We recently built a tool called AdVariq (https://advariq.com).

The idea behind it is pretty simple: for e-commerce stores, creating different static ad variants is a huge hassle. Single-image ads burn out quickly, and constantly coming up with fresh visual variations, swapping copy, and resizing across formats (1:1 feed vs 9:16 stories) takes a lot of repetitive work in Canva or Figma.

So we built a tool to make that process faster: you upload a clean product photo, enter a few selling points or headlines, and it generates multiple commercial static ad variations ready for testing.

We're currently looking for honest feedback on whether the generated output is actually practical for real stores.

If you want to test it out, it's completely free right now. Feel free to drop a comment below or send me a DM and I'll gladly get you set up.

Would really appreciate any honest thoughts or critiques!

SellingPilot, a multi-channel listing and inventory app that keeps stock in sync across Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop and more before BFCM

*Disclosure: I'm on the SellingPilot team.*

**What's the app?**

SellingPilot is a multi-channel e-commerce app for Shopify sellers who also sell on other marketplaces. This post focuses on one feature that matters a lot right now with Black Friday about five weeks out: **inventory sync**. All your channels draw from one shared inventory source, and rules decide how much stock each channel gets.

**Where can I find it?**

- Shopify App Store: https://apps.shopify.com/sellingpilot

- Website: https://www.sellingpilot.com

**What problem are you solving?**

Overselling during BFCM. When the same stock is counted separately in each channel's backend, it's manageable on a normal day. But when orders spike on several channels at once, and especially when a bestseller is down to its last few units, two or three channels can sell the same unit.

Then you're cancelling orders, which hurts your seller metrics on marketplaces like Amazon and Walmart, during the highest-traffic days of the year. The opposite happens too: your main channel runs out while a test channel sits on stock it won't sell until after Christmas.

**How does the app work?**

  1. **Shared inventory source.** One inventory source feeds all connected channels, so you manage stock in one place instead of in every backend.

  2. **Automatic sync.** Stock levels are pushed to each channel automatically based on your rules.

  3. **Sync ratio + max stock.** For each channel, set what percentage of available stock it gets and an optional cap. For example, give your main channel priority and limit how much a test channel can hold.

  4. **Sell-out threshold.** When stock drops below a number you set, that channel's listed stock is set to zero. This keeps a safety buffer.

One thing to be upfront about: the shared inventory source is read roughly **once an hour**, so this isn't real-time sync. That's exactly why the sell-out threshold matters. For fast-moving SKUs during BFCM, set a buffer that covers about an hour of sales.

**Who's your target merchant?**

Shopify sellers who also sell on other marketplaces, have more SKUs or channels than they can update by hand, and are worried about overselling or uneven stock allocation going into peak season.

Supported channels: Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop, eBay, Temu, SHEIN, Newegg, Best Buy, WooCommerce.

**How is it different / better than other existing solutions?**

- **Rule-based allocation, not just mirroring.** Many sync setups copy the same number to every channel. Ratios, caps, and sell-out thresholds let you decide where stock goes.

- **10 channels in one place,** including marketplaces like Newegg, Best Buy, Temu, and SHEIN alongside the usual ones.

- **Part of a broader toolkit.** The same app also handles AI listing optimization, review analysis, competitor comparison, product research, and AI product images, so you're not stitching together several tools.

**How much does it cost?**

[Free plan / Inventory sync availability and limits per plan — please confirm]

**What are you looking for?**

Multi-channel merchants who want to get their inventory rules set up before BFCM and are willing to give honest feedback. If you've dealt with BFCM overselling before, I'd like to hear what went wrong and whether this setup would have prevented it.

I'll be around in the comments to answer questions.
