After searching everywhere online and seeing "out of stock" notices across every single retailer, I got ridiculously lucky and grabbed what was literally the last unit available on Amazon across Europe for €247!

I’m pairing it with an LG G5 OLED 77" and a Samsung HW-Q990F soundbar system. The main goal is getting full lossless audio pass-through (TrueHD / Atmos / DTS:X) which built-in TV apps can’t deliver. Later on, I’ll be setting up Nuvio as my primary media front-end.

Is there still any interest in a working apple music app built specifically for the shield?

I'm close to having something built, planned it for personal use (been frustrated with sideloaded apps not working properly). I've realised I need to maintain an apple developer account and rotate the keys to keep the app functioning, so won't be as simple as passing around an apk and will carry a cost.

I plan to build and then publish it via the app store so hopefully no sideloading, etc.

I have a shield tv pro plugged into my Onkyo RZ30. It can happen with any apps, but for example I was watching HBO Max and everything just kind of turns off in an instant.

It turns off, tv turns off and back on, and then I have to wait for shield to boot back up and then change the input back on my tv.

I have turned HDMI CEC complete off on my shield tv and it still happens. I think it’s the Shield Pro because it doesn’t happen with any of my gaming consoles that’s also plugged into my AVR and they are used for even longer sessions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been using Sunshine / Moonlight and Artemis / Apollo for years. I've managed to solve any issues I've had streaming games...

BUT...

I cannot, for the life of me, get my DualSense controller working with Elden Ring.

I have tried disabling and enabling Steam input. Changed Steam to recognize the controller as an Xbox controller. I've even downloaded as pirated version to see if that would work. But nothing.

Anyone have any ideas they'd like to share?

Just got the old playbar, and try to get 5.1 audio from netflix. According to chatgpt then shield 2019 and apple tv 4k gen 2 able to do it.

I have a MBP M1 , which I use to watch movies on my projector / speaker setup , which is managed by my Yamaha RX Receiver but the audio comes out highly distorted despite troubleshooting

Macbook Pro M1

my projector/Dali both act as outputs, and I have inputs (e.g. my XBOX over hdmi, or my phone over bluetooth or my phone over AUX). all of these work fine, no issue.

however, when I want to watch movies via laptop over HDMI then the receiver's outgoing sound to the speakers is unintelligible (very low sound and the full range of audio is not present, it's not usable).

I was suggested to update the firmware on my receiver, which I did, since it's an old receiver, but sadly this didn't fix the problem. And I am playing the movie on my laptop using VLC player.

TLDR: my macbook pro (M1) audio output can't be read properly by my old(er) Yamaha receiver despite firmware update - I think it's an issue with audio compression / handoff. Hoping the Shield may solve this.

With how good the hardware is on the Shield what is the limitation behind why it can’t be upgraded to Android 14?

Select any stream using Torrentio RD or Comet Elfhosted RD.

Clear Explanation of the Issue & Why It's an Issue:

Upon selecting a stream, the title card appears for a period of time, but the display goes completely black. Pressing pause on the remote brings up the seek bar and playback controls overlay, but no video or audio content renders underneath.

The exact same streams play instantly and smoothly using the Stremio app on an Android phone connected to the same network. The issue seems isolated to the Android TV build on the Shield Pro, preventing any content streaming on television setups. This has been noticed within the last couple of weeks or so.

Troubleshooting Already Tried:

Power Cycle: Unplugged the physical power cord from the Shield for 10 minutes before rebooting.

Cache Cleaned: Cleared the Stremio application cache inside Android TV system settings.

Manual App Update: Downloaded and updated to version 1.11.3 directly from the Stremio website (since the latest version was not yet available in the Google Play Store on the device).

internal Player Selection: Switched default playback engines between ExoPlayer, libVLC, and MPV.

Decoder Settings: Toggled both Hardware Acceleration.

Every night I fall asleep to music or a YouTube podcast on my TV, and the screen lights up the whole room. Sleep mode kills the audio, and screensavers are still bright.

So I built a tiny app called Blackout: hold the Netflix button on the SHIELD remote and the screen goes black, while the audio keeps playing. Press any button and the picture is back, right where you left it.

Honest feedback welcome, even "this is pointless" 😄 What button would you use?

So I'm getting crazy. No movie with EAC3 or AC3 audio will play from Plex. They just seem to suffer from extreme buffering but there's no trace of any activity both on PMS console or logs. I thought I messed up my recent switch to a more capable server, but this issue only shows on the Shield client. Any other Android or Windows client work just fine on direct play.

If I force transcoding by changing to a lower quality, it plays wihtout any issues. So, is this related to the recent update or it's something else? Already tried with Passthrough HDMI/disabled without success.

I forgot to mention: I had no problems in the past. Could be the newest version, with the crappy UI? Others mentioned it has some problems with surround audio codecs.

EDIT: As odd as it seems, I've tried now, 12 hours later, and it works perfectly, as always. New app looks somehow slower than it used to be, but content is now played correctly in direct play.

Apparently, nothing has changed: yesterday I went to sleep (Italy here) with AC3 videos not playing, but this morning they work. Same app version from the playstore, same media server, same video files. Heck, I didn't even tried to restart shield or PMS this morning.

Thanks to all folks that stopped and tried to help! Two hours of troubleshooting apparently mean nothing if the gods decide I can't watch my movie in peace...

Has anyone else in the UK started experiencing BBC iPlayer crashing since the August app update?

I'll be watching something and it will randomly crash to the home screen.

App is com.nvidia.iplayer v1.8.0

My Shield is first generation (16GB), running version 9.2.4 (33.2.400).

So far I've tried clearing the app data but that hasn't helped.

I have an extensive Kodi library and the internal storage I have spare on my 2019 Shield Pro is fast being eaten up.

However I am stuck at stage 3.

I can create the text file no issues, but how do I access the Shields root storage?

I have X-Plore but I am unable to access the data folder on my Shield to move the text file into /sdcard/

Any help will be appreciated.

Does anyone know were I can get a replacement fan for this?

It doesn't make sense to me to keep manufacturing the current Shield and selling it at such a high price instead of developing and releasing a new model. NVIDIA is still using resources to manufacture an outdated device, including chips, memory, storage, and other components, when those resources could potentially be used for newer hardware.

I don't think a new Shield would necessarily cost more to manufacture than the current one, especially considering how much technology has advanced since 2019.

Is there any logical reasoning behind NVIDIA's decision to keep selling the same hardware for so long and yet raise the price?

Asking this because this issue has been going on for the entirety of the lifetime of the device.

So basically I own a Nvidia Shield Tv Pro that came with the stick controller. The moment it arrived, it came with the batteries dead, had to change them to start the initial configuration process. This happened more than a year ago.

Thing is, batteries keep discharging in no time. I'm talking about three days, four at best. I've turned off the remote illumination settings, but the only thing that works is every time I'm not using the remote, I remove the batteries. Anyone knows is this is something usual, or has any advice?

I've created an app for my own use that I have put on github as it might be of interest to other users. It basically lets you set up multiple wireguard, PIA and Mullvad profiles (other providers can be added later - but I only had access to PIA and Mullvad while developing) and assign these to the various apps you have installed on your shield (it probably works on other Android TV platforms too, but I built it and tested it exclusively on the shield).

I updated the plex app on my shield recently and now the remote play isnt working great anymore.

I have full access remote but it takes ages for a movie to load and it stutters.

With recent AI developments, would it theoretically be possible to reverse engineer Dolby Vision to finally fix red push on Nvidia Shield? Hell, perhaps add VP9 and HDR10+ if hardware can do it.
