Hello all, after seeing peoples responses and how the community has gauged the potential change to rule 3, the decision has been made to indeed expand it.

This subreddit will no longer allow AI generated content including programs that have been made with ""AI-assistance.""

Users looking for AI-generated decompilations are encouraged to seek out other places to discuss them such as r/recomps or r/ShadowofTheColossusPC

Secret Hunting Megathread: Theories, Evidence, What We Know So Far [Spoilers Discussed Inside] Spoiler

So I looked at the topic about secret hunting just a bit ago, and since I've been back in the swing of it after my insomnia induced exploration in the topic of the fellow that posted in hexadecimal code, I figured I'd give it my best go of compiling information, theories, and topics of interest. I can't say how comprehensive this initial version will be, so if anyone would like me to add anything, feel free to post below.

Note: I don't know if any of this holds weight, if it'll lead to any juicy new secrets or anything like that. I've always been more "The chase is better than the catch" with stuff like this going back to the PS2 days when people were poking at every glitched texture.

I don't think that there'll be some seventeenth colossus added to the game or anything, but hey! Who knows? That's the fun of theorizing.

Anyhow, I figure I should start with the one everyone knows about by now.

The Sword of Dormin:

  • This is the reward for collecting all 79 Coins/Enlightenments

  • It is hidden in a room you can only get into from outside the temple, on what appears to be a black throne or spire directly beneath the temple's fountain/pool area--the area where you pick up Time Attack items and are pulled into at the end of the game.

  • As you enter the room, you can hear Dormin speak, then laugh as you pick it up, though it's impossible to know what they're saying.

  • It's one of the strongest weapons in the game.

  • It shines Black light instead of white.

  • It appears to be broken, held together by the shadows that coil around it.

  • The noise that it makes when you stab/kill Colossi with it is different than the regular sword.

  • It doesn't give you any new endings if you go through the game with it--the sword that is thrown in the pool at the end of the game is always the forbidden sword Wander brought to the Forbidden Lands with him.

  • It appears to have the eye of a colossus in the hilt, that changes color depending on a Colossus' aggression level.

  • The hilt also seems to have a pattern similar to some of the pedestals you can find in the game, namely the one in Barbas/6's temple.

Now, all of this is pretty interesting. People are currently wondering if the sword has any other purpose besides a tribute to NomadColossus/the exploration aspect of the game, and are currently experimenting with it in various areas to see if it does anything. As of typing this, there's nothing apparent, but if there is, I'll be sure and update this topic.

Now, while the existence of the new room in the temple is a bit of a stunner in and of itself to people who played the original game, there is something else in the room besides the Sword that was overlooked upon its initial discovery. However, despite being small, the implication of this secret is certainly weighty:

The Severed Horn'

That one is one of the bigger ones to come up recently, but not the only one to come up involving horned creatures. I'd be remiss if I made a topic discussing the interesting new secrets in the game and didn't mention this next one:

The Goat Paintings

Finally, to cap off here, I thought I'd throw in a couple of topics of interest. The first two are from strange accounts that appeared and never posted after this. The legitimacy of these puzzles is definitely to be questioned, but it's provided more incentive to hunt in the game, if nothing else.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowoftheColossus/comments/7wpd39/o_o_i_e_h_s/

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowoftheColossus/comments/7zk3be/4974206973206e6f7420646f6e65/

This one is theorizing about the goat murals.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowoftheColossus/comments/8021j0/goat_mural_theoriesconnectionsideas/

And here's a post of someone who found a hidden room in Celosia/11's temple.

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowoftheColossus/comments/7zlhpm/brazilian_youtuber_finds_rendered_room_behind_the/

Additions

This is stuff that's come up since the initial post that I kinda wanted to highlight.

  • People seem to have found numbers etched onto rocks. If someone could help provide me with links to topics on the matter, preferably ones with screenshots and locations, I'd appreciate it. I'm not sure if they'll hold any significance but I'll put them in this topic regardless.

  • NomadColossus is still searching for secrets and tricks, as evidenced by some of his recent youtube videos. There are also things he wasn't made aware of--He had no idea about the Goat paintings, and even before then didn't know about the enlightenments until he visited Blupoint, or their reward until it was revealed on PS4trophies' livestream. So he absolutely wasn't privy to all of the big secrets, despite the enlightements and "Boon of the Nomad" trophy being in tribute to him.

  • New topic from the mysterious hex account.. This one translates to "Us You Abandoned" (Or "You Abandoned Us") and shows a darkened image of Wander raising Dormin's sword outside a door in the 8th colossus' arena.

* 3/8/18 Yet another new topic from the Hex Account/Awake, now showing the seal at Phalanx's arena with the code translating to "We are still here".

If there are any other topics involving speculation or theories as to anything I mentioned, or anything you feel I left out, do let me know and I'll update as necessary. Thank you for reading this far, I know it's a whale of a post but I wanted to be as descriptive as possible with the three topics here.

As for what any of this accomplishes? I'll leave that up to you guys. There may be a new area, there may be a seventeenth colossus, there may be any number of things to come out of all this. I don't know. That's why we theorize and experiment with this stuff. If I want to debunk something, I go about it the hard way. Maybe it seems stupid, but hell, it wouldn't be the first time a game dev's hidden stuff right under our noses. Rocksteady kept a hidden room in Batman: Arkham Asylum secret up until just months before Arkham City released. There are secrets in games that have gone undiscovered for years. While that may not be the case here, there's precedent for looking, at least.

After all, that's how we found out the mystery of the Enlightenments.

Anyway, I hope I compiled all of this well enough. I'll be making any big edits below, or adding to the respective topics when I need to. I hope this is a good enough Megathread to start off with, at least.

Thank you. Feel free to discuss anything about this stuff in the comments below.

Modding Beyond The Forbidden Lands Announcement

It’s been a long time since we’ve had an update on Reddit hasn’t it? Well I’m here to assure everyone that btfl is not only alive, but has had many updates over the past year now! We will try to be more active with major update posts on here (provided there’s enough major content), but minor updates will be on our twitter, our own Reddit, and of course the discord server, which is less than 10 away from 10,000 members!

Several mods have been released over the year, tangentially related to btfl, and we’ve released a build, made by our lead dev the exceedingly talented Nocturnal, for players to walk around in and explore the beta map which is 90% completed!
All of which are available for download on our discord server.
A Vtuber by the name of Xaliya has already done live streams and videos of these various features and can be found linked on both her and BTFL’s own YouTube channel.
Plenty of screenshots of our progress are also shown off and we’ll be having a podcast very soon on the discord.

TLDR: beta map mostly done, and all 26 colossi have models ready for game testing and design wise, are nearly finished.

Discussion Sotc 2

• Upvotes

Idk why I just thought of this but I'd really love a sotc 2

I think game sequels are almost always better than the original game and so much could be done with it. The mystique, lore, and aura of the original has soooo much potential to build on..

And btw, I don't consider TLG a sequel idk if anyone does but to me it's just a spinoff that's in the same universe and it doesn't compare

Idk what are y'all's thoughts I think its possible since we've seen movies get sequels after forever like the Incredibles 2

Sorry if this post is annoying I'm not totally knowledgeable I do know genatlas is supposedly completely unrelated so

PS4 Do you need to complete the game on Normal+ in order for time attack rewards to transfer to Hard+?

I've been playing the remake and I'm wondering if I have to play the game fully again in order to transfer my items to hard+, or if after I get all the normal+ time attack rewards I can go back to the menu and start a hard+ file with my normal+ rewards transferring over.

More drawings for what I think would be cool colossi if we ever had an expansion. Gotta say that it does feel less inspired than my previous post but I'm still trying other iterations. I do feel that the little guy on the last page the right of the page is interesting as a tiki colossus that you would have to hit weak spots to make his sections spin

Kow Otani (SotC composer) worked in a lot of projects, but after going through all of them, I can confidently say Shakugan no Shana sounds the most similar

Thought I might share this for people who want to hear more OSTs in the style of Shadow of the Colossus. Curiously, both Shakugan no Shana season 1 and SotC were released in October 2005 only a few days apart.

PS4 Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 Jailbreak

Does anyone have a jailbroken PS4 and have tested the 60fps patch? My Shadow of the Colossus is version 08034, it doesn't even reach 40fps. I'd like to know if it's been tested on another version and if it's more stable.

Shadow of the Colossus native PC port: my fork now runs ~40-49 FPS in the Shrine (was ~29), with optional FSR 3 frame generation

SotC style game (Nyra and the garden of Moros)

Not sure if this has already been posted (or if it's even allowed here) but I just stumbled across the trailer for this game on YouTube this morning.

It's clearly inspired/rip off of SotC but with more stylised/minimal art direction.

Not sure what to make of it, clearly a love letter but I've been burned before by Prey to the Gods.

Discussion Should Rule 3 be expanded to include decompilations and other ports?

Hello everyone, it is me again.

Over the past two weeks the content of this subreddit has changed rapidly and been largely taken over by posts about PC ports of SOTC. In just the past 6 hours three seperate posts by three separate users have been made showing a PC port of BluePoint’s 2018 remake. We’ve even had a user make duplicate posts just saying ‘autosave problem’ about a PC port with no further context.

Additionally, these threads are jam packed with pro-AI and anti-AI arguments and an uncharacteristically high amount of comments for this subreddit (I’d say 11-20 comments is standard for a particularly popular post for the 5+ years I’ve been here) especially from users I’ve never seen active here.

While I am leaning towards disallowing these posts I would like other peoples opinions, particularly those from community members who have an actual history on this subreddit. So please if you have a preference, speak up.

Part of me does wonder if the best course of action is to wait for the metaphorical storm to pass as people move on to other things but again- I’d like to hear your opinions.

PS3 Just beat Shadow of the Colossus Spoiler

This will be more of a ramble so apologies

I've just beaten the game....and God I'm so conflicted

I don't think I've ever played a game that I really do love but it pisses me off to no avail.

I'll get my gripes out of the way.

God I hate the controls.

Like I get exactly why it's like that, and for what it's worth it conveys the feeling that you are an insect compared to some Collosai. But man it's a bitch to control sometimes, especially with how much flailing happens (which again I get why, but some Collosai fights push it to the point of (I've barley done anything and I have to now drop off) so that's fun)

As well my god it can just be unfair.

The 16th Collosai pissed me off to no avail, the way the jump just.....would sometimes decide to be a pain was just aggravating.

I did use guides for some Collosai, some where veeery easy to figure out.

Some I was just straight up stupid and missed the contact clue because I'm dumb.

And some I swear I would've never figured out (mainly because I'm a big dumb)

Now onto why I say I love this game.

Purely from Aesthetics I adore this game, I love how grimey it gets with the desolate city's, or how dirty the desert can get.

As well as much as I moaned about the controls, genuinely I really love them, mainly for traversing the world I had such a blast.

(Like running around the few buildings, or climbing up to fight Collosai 3 was so good)

Agro as well I really liked controlling......mostly

(Actually with some fights I didn't have that much of a problem)

Sound design was phenomenal, I love how desolate the soundscape is with each Collosai vanquished, it really adds to the scope of the killings.

As well I loved how each Collosai was more and more spread out, really made you feel the weight of it all.

I did get spoiled on 2 parts of the story

(Well, 1 was more thematic and other was a plot point. I am kinda glad I get the thematic side spoiled because it was in the back of my mind as I took down the Collosai.)

The story I really liked.

Even though so much was at the beginning and end, I still really loved it.

The twist that Dormin was just suing Wander to escape. And Mono actually being resurrected but stuck there are you fucking kidding me. Like genuinely that took me so aback and left me just stunned.

It's such a cruel fate for all involved, although that ending with Mono and Agro going to the top of the shrine made me tear up a tad.

Overall.....I really loved my time with the game, even though it genuinely pissed me off at times with how bs it can get

(Whether it was actually bs or just a skill issue)

(Also, with the ending with Wander getting turned into that baby with horns. How closely is Ico connected to Collossus. I've only played a bit of Ico (gave up because I'm weak willed) so maybe there's something that makes it more obvious it's connected?)(Idk, but I would like to hear)

(((Also if you made it here, thank ye for reading. Literally outside of here I have no one to ramble to, so thank ye :›)))

PS4 My first intentional one-cycle on Pelagia, and my fastest NTA run at 1:31.39

I think I've done the one cycle once on a new game run accidentally, but I finally decided to learn how to do it on purpose. It's fairly straightforward as well.

The stabs go in this order:

1 fully charged stab (hold square to charge the stab faster)

0.95 stab (easier to time without holding square, but holding works too)

2 fully charged stabs

On hard time attack it's a bit more complicated tho and I haven't managed to do it yet.

Strange/silly question about Jampack Vol. 13 demo version of the game. Headless Mono?

When I was a kid, we had a copy of Jampack Vol. 13, and it of course featured SOTC. Our copy of the disc was incredibly scratched up, and only a few demos worked such as: SOTC, Burnout, and I believe Sly Cooper. Apparently in another demo version of the game, there's a textureless + headless T-posing model of Mono that appears in the Shrine of Worship's garden at the very top. I think you need to use cheats or glitches in order to reach it normally.

However in our copy, the T-posing Mono model spawned at the top of the spiral ramp in the back of the shrine. As seen in this video. She was located at the very end of the ledge. I remember this as a kid, and my older sister as well, and I have a vivid memory of shooting arrows at her while showing the game to my cousin. We always described her as "tied up", like it was an intended creepy horror game set-piece.

I can't find anything online about it being at this location however, and I'm starting to genuinely believe it was spawned there somehow by the scratched disc if that's even possible. Anyone got any similar experience like this? This is weirdly a nostalgic topic for me, and I'd like to see it again if someone knows more about it.

Fan Art Hypothetical colossus by me

Seeing people do original content of other media, it surprised me to not see more people trying their hands at making more colossus, so I got some ideas flowing here. It's very interesting to think about the designs keeping in mind that they need to have mechanics to not reach the weak spots too quickly, I think my favourite right now it's the third image that looks like a gorilla, in which you'll very likely will need to pass through his bridge-hands to get to a weak spot. I also like to think that you'll have to get inside the blocky colossus to find the weak spot
