Swordtuber Sunday is live!
In a bid to steadily expand the scope of the subreddit, you are hereby encouraged to share your favourite swordtuber videos of the past week for discussion. Just make your own post sharing your favourite video!
While talking about Shad is the primary focus, we want to talk positively about others in the swordtuber sphere, this includes history centric youtubers. During Swordtuber Sunday, Shad-centric topics are still allowed. You are also still allowed to post swordtuber videos during the week, but Swordtuber Sunday is when it's actively encouraged. A day of positivity to look forward to.
Happy Swordtuber Sunday everyone!

I was so inspired by Shad's work on Malfoid that I did the same treatment to a little novel from an Australian author. It's called "Shadow of the Conqueror". I realized that if you just change a few orientations, sexualities, etc you actually get a much more complex story.
Sure the original novel tries to touch on themes like redemption, identity, power, and personal transformation, but I think it doesn't go far enough. What if Dayless was reborn... as a woman. Being made vulnerable like the women he assaulted. She (Dayloid) must confront the patriarchal expectations she built as a man. Making her Trans gives that transformation another dimension, actually putting her in he shoes she spent a lifetime trampling on.
Lyrah... I lets reimagine her as trans as well. She can help guide our hero Dayloid through transition. We also need to give her more independence. She was imprisoned by Dayless because of her identity after he assaulted her.
Post empire, she works to protect survivors, challenge institutional discrimination, and ensure that the victims of the old regime aren't forgotten. This allows Lyrah becomes a fully realized protagonist with her own objectives, rather than having her development revolve around her former abuser.
I really think that Cueseg should be non-binary and Sain I reimagine as a gay man whose journey involves finding a community where he can live openly and independently.
Sharra could be a lesbian feminist and survivor advocate who refuses to be defined by her victimization. How much more inspiring!
Also lets make the Dawnists a rigid group dead set on traditional hierachies, rigid gender roles, and "glorious" old values of a old empire. They blame minorites for the decline of civilization, but the former emporer they worship is now a trans woman fighting against them! How much more interesting is that!?
Also, lightbinding can now be gender -affirming now, as it doesn't discriminate based on gender identity, sexual orientation, or cultural background. How beautiful!
In the original ending, Lyrah is actually forced to supervise her former abuser. I think we can improve that by making her Dayloid's gender-affirming care coordinator instead. What a beautiful opportunity for both characters to heal!
Picture of the characters, thought Shad would appreciate it as it's AI! It really took so much artistry, I had to google a screenshot of his novel and wrote "make it better". https://imgur.com/a/sIg7jni
Disclaimer: I have not read nor do I plan on reading "Shadow of the Conqueror", I got a summary from somewhere online and I'm just riffing.

When at the supermarket i saw a guy parking a scooter with one of these on it.
Its oddly fitting, isnt it? A big bulky hollow thing that only gets content when others put something in. đ

Extra funny, whether on purpose or by accident, he pronounces "shadiversity" as "shadyversity" đ

First let me say that back about 10 years ago or so, I subscribed to a lot of broadly speaking, history type youtubers.
From the likes of Skallagrim and Extra History, to yes early on, Shad and Metatron.
However, overtime it started to dawn on me that, some of these history youtubers were becoming questionable to me.
Case in point, I noticed Shad was more and more verbose, but saying very little of substance and depth, that I tuned out and left. And when stuff like "Princess peach wears pants woke!" started appearing, I was so glad i got out.
Then it made me think that whatever i watched from them, was either unsubstantiated nonsense or somewhat the truth, buried amidst culture war gibberish.
And in the case of Metatron; seeing Metatron, in real time, go from someone who seemed nerdy and chill (with video games stuff too), to an unhinged, attention seeking grifter shill, was profoundly disappointing. Every history video i saw of him, I know have to think "was all this gibberish?"
This is why integrity matters. Because once you compromise your integrity, it corrupts everything else you made.
p.s. Skallagrim is a rare one of having integrity, and still being fun to watch his videos, new or old.
*Edit: corrected to History type youtubers, somehow i typed youtuber type youtubers.

Do we know if Tyranth split off, or does he share Shad's views? I mainly wanna know if I should be giving him my watch time,e as I know that they used to work together back in the day.

I saw him bragging about how unwoke it was and how he hired an âinsensitivity readerâ and all that bullshit nobody really did. After reading this literary abortion I have to wonder how much was him actually thinking this was good and how much was him desperately trying to be the opposite of whatever woke meant at the time. Lack of a meaningful progress on a sequel to write something else tells me he didnât write it because he just wanted to tell this story.

I'm kind of in the middle regarding the guy. He's a genuinely weird person
He's a mornon, which is bizarre because it's such a specifically American religion. He has some truly staggering views on certain things
I actually met him once. He comes off pretty nice and agreeable at first, but if you talk to him at length (about anything but swords), the conversation can veer into pretty weird territory pretty easily
But I actually like his Fantasy Re-Armed videos. His logic holds up pretty well, and he has some pretty decent takes about movies
I still hold that the best thing he ever did was create a functional back scabbard (hence the picture)
