Discussion moss pole placed at bottom of inner pot?

• Upvotes

I'm seeing a few different posts about moss poles, but it seems like the pole is placed near the top of the substrate.

Is there a reason the moss pole can't/shouldn't be placed at or near the bottom of the inner pot (where it can wick directly from the water) and then substrate/plant placed around the pole?

Discussion Melanochrysum stressed, help!!

Whyyy is she so stressed?? 😭😭😭 the leaves have started turning yellow from bottom, she’s in a semi-hydro setup (leca & moss & some leca on top to avoid gnats) i made sure to spring out the moss so there’s no water logged in it & she’s bottom watered. Is this still indicating root rot? I’ve already repotted her twice since the moss was very wet the first time, should i take her out & let her dry again?

Should i just transfer her to soil instead? I don’t want her to die. Please help meee!! I’m new to semi hydro but researching a lot & trying my best.

Discussion Show me your semi hydro hanging plants!!

I am curious how everyone hangs semi hydro plants. I am having a really hard time finding self watering planters and would like to hang a few plants.. such as neon pothos, golden pothos, tradescantias, and a couple of others.

Thanks.

Pon Does pot size matter in semi hydro? (Pon)

Post image

I have this juvenile Monstera Thai Con in a tiny, 1.2” DIY self watering cup, in Lechuza Pon (I got it from a seller and it came in this small cup). The roots are starting to circle the pot and aerial roots are starting to trail out from the top of the pot at the back (not visible in photo)

I’m wanting to repot it into this self watering 4” pot and since it’s in semi-hydro, does pot size matter and would the size jump too large? This pot has a separator in the middle to decrease height though so it wouldn’t be too tall as a full orchid pot

I’m planning to add in a moss pole too, part of the reason why I also need a slightly bigger pot than a smaller increment upsize.

Pon Semi-hydro (Pon) and Moss Poles in self watering pots?

Does anyone have a semi hydro pot setup in pon where you use a wick in the bottom reservoir, and also have a moss pole installed?

My question is, usually when you water moss poles at times water drain towards the main substrate. In a semi hydro setup could it cause overwatering when water from the moss wets the pon from above whilst the plant is still wicking water at the same time from the reservoir?

Also in this case, do you water the moss poles with fertilizers that you would in the bottom reservoir?

LECA UK based fertiliser

Hi all, I’m thinking about moving my Alocasia’s over to semi hydro (moss/leca no drainage). This would be my first adventure into semi hydro. Everything is doing ok in soil but I want to try semi hydro to really give them a chance to thrive. I’m looking to understand a bit more about what I should be doing fertiliser wise. I’ve watched a few YouTube videos and seen people making concoctions with 10+ ingredients. Is that what I’m in for with this adventure? 😆 I’m also in the UK so would appreciate some recommendations of stuff I can buy here. Thanks!

Pon Alocasia Amazoniajust bought this two days ago and discovered the soil was so hard that it felt like styrofoam. I bottom watered it a little but no enough to get the top hard layer wet. The next morning it was respirating drops of water from the leave tips. What should I do next

I also cleaned it off and transplanted into chunky soil but did not add any water. How long should I wait to water?

Pon What size media Pon / leca and water additives?

I’m still new to pon, so I have some questions for y’all! I have my small plants in 1/8” Pon. I’m planning on slowly converting all of my house plants to semi Hydro. I’m thinking the big boys will go into LECA and all of the more fibrous root plants + Anthurium will go into pon. I am doing the wicking method.

What size media do you use whether it is PON or LECA?
What additives do you put in the water and how often? (EX fertilizer, biocides, fungicides)

Discussion Anyone have a wicking moss pole in semiHydro?

I'm about to put some philodendron in Pon and I've been thinking about how to keep the moss poles consistently moist. Has anyone tried putting a wick in the center of the moss pole, past the pin mix, and letting it take water from the tray below?

The picture is just a photo I found

Discussion Begonia Maculata transfer to semi hydro.

I recently purchased a Begonia Maculata and would like to transfer it to semi hydro. Would leca or pon be better? Also can it handle ambient humidity or does it need to go in my grow tent?

I have a small Begonia Maurice Aimey that I transferred to a diy pon and it is doing fantastic in my cabinet. But, not much room left in there.

Here is a pic of my begonia I already transferred.

LECA Dracaena blackening in the middle

Thumbnail

I propagated this cutting directly in water and switched it to LECA earlier this summer. It was doing great for a while and growing a ton of roots. It recently started blackening in the middle of the rosetta. The roots look fine to me (they were green because I was using a clear cache pot for a while). Could the nutrient solution be too strong? Or does the reservoir need to be lower?

BTW, when I had the mother plant in soil it was very finicky and impossible to keep green. Any other dracaena tips would be appreciated!
