This is a low stakes mystery but it's bothering me and I rarely use this app so please help if you're so inclined lol
There's a guy I was close to and recently fell out with named Brian. I got an email on October 8th saying "Brian added you - from your contacts!" I look at the profile and the birthday is the same as the actual date (10/8, which is not his real birthday). 0 snap score. The phone number on his profile & the phone number in my contacts, the real Brian's number, match.
He messages me 'Hi' later that night but I'm already asleep. I message back at 8:30 in the morning and he immediately replies and we have the following short convo:
Me: Hi
Him: Hi
Me: You already said hi
Him: Ok
Me: is this Brian from work?
Him: I don't work with a [my name] so probably not.
Me: why did you add me then
Him: I thought you were petty. I'm starting to regret it now
Me: Ok removes friend
I should've maybe asked some more questions but I just assumed maybe it wasn't him, maybe that profile used to have his number, so the app was thinking it's actually Brian? Is that possible?
I was visiting my family that weekend so I didn't really think about it much until I got back home on Sunday. I messaged him again asking if his number is [Brian's number] because he says he isn't Brian but the app is tying him to that number and name. I got no response and the profile disappeared, I guess either I got blocked or he deleted the whole acct.
Then like a day or two later, I got another email saying "Brian added you!" But this time no "from your contacts". When i clicked it and went to my pending requests, the name said "Gary" with a username like "gary123" [not the actual username]
I accepted, person never messaged me, just deleted me a few hours later, but the account still exists.
Do you think it actually was Brian, or maybe just the app getting confused about a potentially recycled number?
